I've been a long time console player and have recently moved over to PC. I want to start recording a lot of gameplay, and am unsure of the programs that are 'worth' using nowadays. I'm not looking for edit software, just good screen cap software.

I know that a lot of people tout MSIAfterburner(which I tried and disliked greatly) as well as Fraps. Is there any other competition on the market? I don't mind spending a little bit of money for a good piece of software, but would prefer if it had a trial version so I can make sure I like it!

Thanks in advance guys :)

DXTory and Fraps, I use DXTory mostly but sometimes theres a game that doesnt like DXTory so I use Fraps. There have also been games that didnt like Fraps in the past too so they both work well hand in hand.

On a side note: DXtory works best if you have multiple harddrives as it can use a method of capture that distributes its output across them instead of relying on the limited writing speed of just one hard dive. The recording quality is dependent on your hardware and these days its mostly limited by HDD write speed. SSD drives are great but with their limited space and high cost compared to mechanical drives they arent really an option for some people.

Dxtory is the best. Only for one simple fact, it let's you record at 30 but keep playing at 60 (if hardware permits). One thing i HATED with fraps was that I had to record and play at the same speed, which really annoyed me. 30 is too choppy for gameplay for me but it's perfect for youtube and less hardware intensive to record at 30. Dxtory allows you to have the best of both.

It also supporst a wide variety of recording codecs, the Dxtory codec isn't bad but it eats up HDD space but thankfully I was able to use the H.264 codec which still looks good and takes up almost nothing in comparison. Another big benefit is that you can record at whatever resolution you want instead of "full size and half size". it's quite a flexible programme and the best around I think. If you are gonna record a lot it's worth the money

msi afterburner
it does realtime compression and barely hurts your fps

I was getting 130-190fps while recoridng BF3.

I normally get 150-200fps.

It records at w/e framerate you want, I record at 30.

I started using fraps... but when i noticed it kicked my pc in the balls when i was recording i changed to Bandicam, seems to lose less fps while recording in hd and uses up less space on my hd for saves.
