Option 1:

GTX 760

128GB SSD

Gaming mouse

Option 2:

GTX 770

So, I can pretty much do one or the other. I'm upgrading the GPU from a GTX 550Ti. I don't have a SSD currently and I don't have a "gaming" mouse. I'm just not sure the 770 is worth it compared to the other upgrades I'm looking at. It would be easier for me to get an SSD and/or gaming mouse at a later time, although chances are I would end up just doing without. I don't know the next time I'll be able to upgrade to a higher end GPU like the 770. What are your thoughts on my first world problem?

If you were going to buy the GTX 760 and then save the $150 for the new cards next year then I would say get the GTX 760 (GTX 800 is coming out next year and new architecture usually results in a 40-60% increase of previous generations. You could get the GTX 760 right now, sell it for $160-200 next summer and then use the addtional $150 you saved for a nice Maxwell card).

I would recommend the GTX 760 in that scenario but in your case I would get the GTX 770 (stock vs stock its a good 20-25% faster) since you mearly going to spend the $150 on something else (mouse/ssd).

Definitely Option one, especially if you game competitively. A good mouse makes a big difference and SSD's are awesome.

Exactly. If he's coming from a regular, cheapo-mouse, which we can assume he is.. because he mentioned "gaming" mouse. It would be a big difference for online gaming, casual or competitive. TC, you do not have to get the SSD, but it would be nice. So your other option could be GTX 760 + Gaming Mouse + Mechanical Keyboard. Or just the GPU + Mouse.

definetly option 2. GPU is the most important part when it comes to gaming.

don't spend too much on the mouse. decent laser mouse is all you need, and they don't cost that much. i paid something like $30 from my Logitech G3, and i like it more than any of those oddly-shaped, "true-gaming" mice.

while SSDs are awesome, they really don't make any difference in game performance. maps/levels load quicker initially, but that's it. no effect on framerate.

I agree. I actually prefer my cheaper mouse over my gaming mouse, and SSD's only affect load times. The framerate advantage of the GTX 770 would make a bigger difference, IMO...

This would also help. Getting a GTX 770 wouldn't be much use if you don't have a decent CPU...

Thanks for all the input guys.

PC Specs Currently Are:

Windows 7 64 bit

ASRock z77M motherboard

i5 3570K (4.0)

CM Hyper 212 Plus

8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 RAM

Corsair TX650 PSU

1TB WD Caviar Green

Nvidia EVGA GTX 550Ti

Logitech MK700/MK710 keyboard & mouse combo (mouse stated to have 3200 dpi)

The mouse I'm looking at is the Corsair M65. Not for the gimmicky sniper button, but for the weight and feel along with the quality as stated in reviews I've read and watched. I hope that helps.

The mouse is really dependent on the user. People like different grips. I prefer Razer Deathadder, and I would recommend Deathadder 2013 because it has a great optical sensor. It tracks well on a wide variety of (gaming) mousepads. I'd recommend the Razer Goliathus to go with it. Deathadder 2013 is $57 on Amazon.com. Don't let the price fool you. :)

i'm still saying option 2.

it would be the most beneficial for you to go for 770GTX + some mouse you can afford after that. honestly, the most important thing about the mouse is that it just feels comfortable in your hand.

Caviar green? You'd really enjoy an SSD :P Or just a faster hard drive

So, last chance for any input. From the suggestions I'm probably going to get the GTX 770. Along with that I'm looking at a 1TB Caviar Black as a extra HDD for recording gameplay.

Should pick it up tomorrow morning. Took the day off to set it up and play a bit.
