Fraps.
Crimsader
Isnt FRAPS very "heavy" on pc ?
It is. But it's free! :)The free version also has a 30-sec time limit for video clips. I suppose that's enough. I just stitch a bunch together in Windows MovieMaker.
I just don't like how Fraps hardly compresses the videos at all. If anyone could recommend a good AVI compressor, that'd be great, but for the most part I use Camstudio anyway.
quijeros
Run it through Windows Live MovieMaker (Win 7).

I've used it before, but I remember it screwing up the aspect ratio on the video.
Yes, fraps is unuseable, far too resource hungry. Good for taking screenshots and checking framerates but not making videos.
The wegame software is the best I've seen, very slight drop in framerate and hardly any mouse lag. It's the best of the bunch. Doesn't work with all games but go to their site and you can see the compatible list.

With the Windows Live MovieMaker for Win 7, there's a choice of 4:3 or 16:9.
depends on what game, some have built in recorders like any source game or crysis.ferret-gamer
Crysis has a Record/Replay Mode?

Wegame, almost no perfomance impact, completely free, no watermarks, and fair file compression
I back you up 100%. I used wegame for the longest[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]depends on what game, some have built in recorders like any source game or crysis.jun_aka_pekto

kinda, you can set it to take screenshots for each frame which you can put together in virtual dub or something. also very handy to make it seem much smoother than it was. example:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E73SOe7phP0
