What the hell happened to my PC?

I've had this set up since last April with no problems at all.I recently found that the PCI slot on my P67 mobo was not working. No big deal, so I ordered another one. Hooked everything back up the way it was and then hear a *pop*. Look down at the brand new motherboard and on the right side near the ram sticks it ignites into a small fire? Any idea what could cause a small fire like this? And as it turns out, it fried my CPU and ram. Back to the drawing board unfortunately.
