WoW is so very addictive. I played from Beta until about 4 months ago, and I quit cold turkey. I didn't "prepare" anything, or sell off a last bit of stuff. I just uninstalled it, and deactivated my account. I HAD to do it that way because if I hadn't, I'd STILL be working on quitting.
WoW is very addicting because as you play it, you realize how easy it is to gain levels and "stuff". Every WoW player has said this:
"I'll just finish turning in these quests, pick up the next ones in the chain, and I'll be done for now..."
Wrong... It's only that simple early on in the game, and if you actually read the quests and follow the story, it becomes increasingly harder to simply "put it down" because it seems like it shouldn't take much time to do the "next part". "Oh, it's right over there! That's all I have to do? Sweet. This should take 5 minutes." Wrong...
Blizzard really did it right for MMO's with WoW by keeping the players interested in what they're doing... UNTIL - The reach the max level and start getting limited, sometimes extremely limited, on what they can do and when. That's when the game starts to become boring for some. If you're not in a good guild that raids often, or have the time to do 2-3-4-5 hour straight raids you'll never attain what you could if you were. You see people running around with gear that you feel you NEED. So, you keep playing, and playing... and playing... But alas, there is no end. There's never a "good enough".
WoW has filled itself with children in the past year or so. When it 1st started, for the first couple of months, it was full of RPG'ers that wanted to explore and see what was out there. Now that the game's been around for a while, it's full of "been there, done that" people that would rather spit on you than answer any of your "noob questions". I know, I was one of 'em.
I guess I've ended up rambling here a bit. WoW IS an extremely fun game, and is very addicting. Guild Wars is also a fun game, yet not SO addicting. I've not played GW so extensively as I have WoW, so /shrug...
Simply Put.
Guild Wars if you actually have a life and want to keep it that way.
World of Warcraft if you want to spend hours doing the same thing over and over again.
Honestly I wouldn't get either.
Tell all yer mates to get Hellgate London :P
But if you truly must, WoW will eat your soul, really. The mechanic of the game makes it prudent to play 10 hours a day, no less!
To me GW was unpolished, awkward, but PvP was truly magnificent.
GW>WoW
Ok this is kinda long but i tried to sum up the point of both games.
Ok s heres he thing. Guild wars is more of a your safe in cities where u can trade. The cities are completely safe but boring and the items and trade is pretty limited. When you leave the city, your guaranteed a fight, but its basically you running through an obsticle course and killing stuff all the way in order to reach the end. Guild wars pvp is basically you and your team is locked in a gladiator arena to duke it out for a while of just killing people within the little box theyve put you in.
WoW is much less limited. They world is the world, theres not a loading screen when you enter the city. pvp is realistic... if your walking in the forest u may get attacked by the enemy. Maybe a town will go under seige by enemy players. ( that is, in a pvp server. In a normal server it varies, but still has more freedom that GW ) as far as towns and trading go, the towns are much bigger, and a BIG part of WoW is social stuff so the trading is excellent. Unlike guildwars there is a variety of things trade or go after.
In the end Ill say this.
If you want to get in there and get into action and basically kill stuff, and you dont really care about improving, talking to other people, or freedom to do what you want, and if u just want to get sent and and say "kill this" then get guild wars.
On the other hand if u want to spend MUCH more time playing a game, want someone to talk to, wnat to see your character improve and like team based efforts not limited to inside a box pvp ( although they have the option if thats what you prefer with "battle grounds" ) then WoW is the way to go.
Guild wars = go kill stuff, sell junk to vendors, kill more. Pvp = get locked in a room and kill stuff. repeatedly. limited.
WoW = Do whatever you want, fight, talk, team up, conquer a dungeon, enhance trade skill. PvP = optional locked in a room style pvp but also in a pvp server the ability to actually stalk ur prey. In WoW a rogue can actually feel like a bandit, stalking someone while stealthed on the side of the road. not limited.
I kno this was long but hope it helpz
About LOTRO. I heard game is very buggy. Ill consider it.

Lord of the Rings Online have been out for over six months now. Good chance all the bugs you've have heard in the past when it first came out are gone. There is a huge amount of added content too, so it would be worth it to check out this game.

After reading this post, and some others, i am not getting none of above. Thanks for all answers guys. I dont want to spend my "whole life" doing same thing over and over again. Ill just get CoD4 in 3 days, Hellgate London and Crysis...
and most people who are guild wars fans have a few reasons to hate WoW.
1. They don't like idea of paying $15 per month. or
2. They like more fighting and less talking, and I admit WoW is a very social game, and it has a TON of chatting in it. or
and that only a few reasons, but most is because of number 2. Like i said in my phat oversized reply, guild wars lets you create a character then kill stuff. a lot. Warcraft lets you maek a character. Then get guildies. Then maybe kill stoof. Then talk a lot. Then maybe go do some pvp.
just ask why they didn't warcraft, and why they did like guild wars... what they say is probably true.
ok if u didn't read anything i said before read this. DO - NOT - WASTE - MONEY - ON - LOTRO
it looks like a homemade pathetic "game" that shouldn't have been brought out of beta. both GW and WoW so far surpase LOTRO that its just disgusting. plz dont support that game..
[QUOTE="josh-2468"]Domen just hurry up and get WoW u F***ING *** **** ****** **** ****** ***** ******* *** *****!!!!!!!domke13

Stop spamming Josh. This isnt MSN or something. End of topic. I am not getting any of those games.
i understand u dont want to get WoW or GW, but consider this, if u DO get WoW which u already stated u werent, u dont have to play a lot to get good stuff and all lvl like crazy becase if u go into an inn while ure not playing u get rested which means whenever u kill something u get like 200 or 250% more exp. thats all im going to say.ywywyw
I know that. My mate told me. But i am just too addictive. When i got my first PES 4 i played it for 12 hours every day. And its only PES. I luckily got over that, but whit WoW i would became verry addicted again.
Honestly I wouldn't get either.

I thought Hellgate: London sucked (at least from the demo)
And oh yeah Guild Wars rules!
[QUOTE="hatefull"]thats easy
WoW for pve
or GW for pvp; GW pvp > all
lol
domke13
I dont really know what that means lol. PvP? Player versus player? PvE?
About LOTRO. I heard game is very buggy. Ill consider it.
It's not. Even the beta was pretty bug free. And LOTRO has free trial, check it out.
[QUOTE="MattUD1"]Guild Wars is a game where you can pick up and play and drop at any time. It has no monthly fees so if you don't play for a month, you didn't waste anything. domke13
But is it also as good as WoW?
Depends on what you are looking for. GW is not exactly an MMO.

why the hell do you keep asking that, if you already KNOW half the people are gona say yes and half no.
Try it for yourself, both games have trials.
*p.s. if you must know, GW > WoW.
But is it also as good as WoW?
If you want to play a single game 30+ hours a week get WOW
Anything less than that and you're better off w/ guild wars.
IMO guild wars is better, but you tend to run out of things to do, and you get bored if you play a whole lot. With wow you can play it 30+ hours a week and still not run out of stuff to do. Although that stuff to do isn't as interesting as the stuff in guild wars it's still interesting.
I would go with WoW over Guild Wars any day.
WoW is only addictive if you make it that way. Take breaks, is bassicly what you would do on any game.
But overall go with WoW.

good choice, mate....see you on the battlefield of modern warfare. ;)
Try guild wars. In WoW it will take you months to reach level 70, and a lot of the content before 70 ends up being dull after doing the same things over and over again on the grind to reach level 70. Then once reached, expeect having to wait several more months just to get in your first raid with the lowest-tier raid dungeon. The expect to run that dungeon 50 times just for the sake of finding items for other members of the guild, because you don't have enough dkp to get your own. The another 50 times just for the sake of finding your own items, since to get the required gear in order to play the next content has a 5% chance to drop. The expect to play it another 100 times since the guild needs you to help the rest of the guild members get better gear, and to repay them since they helped you get your own. So after 8 months of playing, thousands of play-thoughs of only the first raid, you will finally have the lowest-tier of armor. Then you have to go through it all again in the next dungeonm which is the prerequisite dungeon to the one after which has average-level gear. Realize that even once you have reached the highest raid dungeon, you are required to help guild members through all the previous ones still, so maybe 1 in 5 of your raids will be in the dungeon you need for yourself, and the other 4 out of 5 are the ones you have played thousands of times over and over, and are probably sick of. In addition to that, the completion of a raid can take 6 to 8 hours, so imagine that 5 nights a week for years on end.
I started playing WoW about 20 days ago so I thought I would share my experiece as a new player.
WoW is one of the most polished games I have played. It's my first MMO, however it's much more polished in terms of gameplay and content than many other non-MMO games. At first when I looked at gameplay videos, I was led to believe that the game had horribly aged graphics but when I started playing I found that on max settings the game looks stuning.
It is an immence game with tons of content (I've only seen the tip of the iceberg as im lv 29). I wouldn't worry so much about getting addicted. I believe that any mature individual (at least 16 i would say), you should be able to balance your life between the game and reality with relative ease. You don't HAVE to keep leveling until your eyes leak out in front of the PC... Just take breaks at lv 19, 29, 39 etc anf try out the battlefields for pvp points whenever you have time (you can buy very decent gear when you accumulate abit of points - and right now theres some special event going on giving out more points).
I've never tried Guild Wars but I heard from a friend that since the game has only limited MMO content it's not the best choice out there (its only the best choice without monthly fees). I really doubt the gameplay or pvp is as polished as a game so huge as WoW.
Another thing if you decide to play WoW, when you pick a character just stick to it - I got to lv 10 with 3 or 4 characters before I finally leveled up a hunter to 29 and it was a little tedious but it was my fault. Also you don't need to be a twink in order to do well in the battlefields (which are also very polished).
And finally at the end of my big post I'll say that yes its true that some people you've talked to only once (on the bigger, older servers) can be fed up with noobies, most people you talk to will be very helpful... By level 10 usually someone invites you into a guild and they will take care of all your questions. It's really easy to make a few friends who will help you out too. Just make sure you choose a fitting server for your needs (if you need help with that just ask me and I'll tell you about server types and population, because ive tried a few out and know a few sites that can help).
