What's going to happen to plasmas?

How long will plasma TVs stay on the market? Will they be phased out in favor of LEDs? I have a plasma you see, but it can only do 720p. In the future, I want to upgrade it to one that can do 1080p. I much prefer the look of the plasmas over the other formats. I've had my TV for less than a year so it doesn't make sense to upgrade right now. So, will I be able to buy a new plasma in the future?

Most likely. They will be around for a while, as new tech is always very expensive. The new thing to be pushed will probably be 4K sets, along with Sonys "crystal LED" tech. After that OLED will probably become standard, I think.

OLEDs will take over one day, but I think that day is still far away.

IMO plasma still holds there ground with picture quality.600hz,no inputa lag,higher contrast,better color,no motion blur,better bang for your buck....ect.i own a 42"panasonic viera plasma and it's full 1080p(1920x1080) and blows ANY other42" LED/LCD out of the water.i think plasma will stay around until OLED is standard.but this is my opinion because i do not own a cristal ball

Plasma isn't going anywhere. With most professional A/V reviewers still selecting plasma as the reference display to compare everything else against, LCD still has work to do to produce an an equal picture at a better price.rastan

I disagree. I have yet to see an LCD set that doesn't have that lcd "trail effect".

They're going to start selling 55" OLED tvs in the second half of 2012.
