How do you 1680x1050 widescreen guys go about playing the classics?
I'm just curious because I have a crap load of oldskool games such as Doom II, Wolfenstein 3-d, Police Quests, Rebel Assault, Myst, 7th Guest, Destruction Derby, etc that I still would like to play from time to time.
I heard from somewhere that you can enable aspect ratio scaling or something like that? Maybe that does the trick. I'm currently looking at the HP w2207. It's 22" of 1680x1050 sweetness, but if it can't scale 800x600 or at least 1024x768 all that well then it's back to my 21" trinitron FTW!
I really appreciate the input. Now im just comparing a bunch of 22 inch LCD monitors. Still havent decided.Killfox
For what it's worth I think you should check out the HP W2207 either at CC or BestBuy. This monitor has always stuck out among the crowd and it's what I'm getting. Side by side with the 22" samsungs it's no contest IMO.

Wow just wow. Thank you. Thats the exact monitor i was looking for. Widescreen, 1680 by 1050, 300cd/m2, 1000:1 contrast, and HDCP. And its getting all kinds of awesome reviews. Wow im most def. Going to pick that monitor up. Thanks again.
Killfox- I know you'll enjoy that monitor. It reminds me of my Sony Xbrite lcd which has a slick finish to it. The monitor is as sharp as any notebook screen I've EVER seen, and in my eyes you would have to spend $1000+ for better results. Like I said, when you get to the store you'll know what I mean when I say that it makes every other panel look old and outdated (including new samsungs, dell, and gateway).
The ONLY panel that I've personally seen that matches the W2207 in quality is the NEC 20" (dont know exact model) which cost about $550+. But even still it's limited to 20". Trust me, I know monitors and wouldn't lead you wrong. I have a Sony 34XBR960 crt for watching movies, and to this day I believe it's still the reference for it's size and under. Not to mention, probably only Pioneer Elite 1080p panels can match/exceed it quality. I'de put this HP and the NEC at Sony XBR reference level (for a 22" lcd of course).
Good luck and post back with results.
