Keeping in mind the price of stuff varies a lot across countries... Since 2008, my PC has cost 1,600+80+800+130+80(AUD). So, around 2.7k.

Taking the US purchase price of the internal components at the time I bought them instead of what I actually paid, my tower costs around $800.

Monitor was $320, speakers were $100 and headphones were $130. Mouse, keyboard and 2 gamepads make it around $100.

So total is around $1450.

Mine was around $1k, including monitor, mouse, and keyboard. I plan to put more money into it though, with an 8-core BD and a second 6870.

My current build is costing me a little under $600

I'm planning on buying:

BIOSTAR A770E3 AM3 Motherboard
G.SKILL 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)
AMD Phenom II X4 840 3.2GHz Processor
Microsoft Windows 7Home Premium64-bit
GeForce GTX 460 1GB (might buy today!)

I already have:

Cooler Master Centurion 5 II case

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB
Antec 520W Power Supply

If you include the monitor It'll be over or around $700.

$200, which was put towards a 460 GTX and 600W OCZ PSU. Rest of the parts were free(which is why they aren't great)

$2k roughly w/monitors, key/mouse

Most of my stuff consists of older parts that were purchased at higher prices than they are now. Sucks how fast computer parts depreciate.

My current items, date I got them and the prices I paid:

  • MB: ASRock K10N780SLIX3-WiFi (04/2009) - $159.99
  • RAM: Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2 (03/2010) - $79.99
  • PSU: CoolerMaster Silent Pro (03/2010) 1000W - $159.99
  • CPU: Phenom II x4 940 (04/2009) - $179.99
  • GPU1: GTX 280 (01/2010) - $209.99
  • GPU2: GTX 280 (01/2010) - $219.99
  • Tower: CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000 (01/2010) - $160.00
  • HSF: CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ (01/2011) - $24.99
  • NZXT Snetry-2 fan controller (12/2010) - $26.99
  • HDDs: WD 320GB Black Scorpion (unknown date) & 500GB Black Caviar (04/2009) - $150
  • 4 Scyth fans (120mmx38mm) for my tower (12/2010) - $40 (for all 4 fans)
  • Samsung 226cw (01/2008 ) - $150
  • ASUS 22" monitor (12/2010) - Free, Christmas present from wife

Total cost = $1561.92 over the course of about 28 months.

I have no need to upgrade anything in the near future, but the idea of getting a new GPU (or two) is always fun and a possibility if I ever get any money. If you break it down over 28 months, I paid about $55.73 a month for my currnet build.

$1100, not including monitor, keyboard, dedicated sound card, mouse, and hyper 212+. $1500 or more, including monitor, keyboard, mouse, new CPU cooler, new PC case, new sound card, new case fans.. I did quite a few upgrades a long the way, including my GTX 580 and the HAF 932 black edition case, This all added up with the monitor, mouse and keyboard, and cpu cooler took it up well pass $1500. It's worth it though. I can play any game out there with very playable frame rates @ 1920x1200 res. I'm planning to build another rig later on. But I will have to wait Bulldozer to finalize my next build.

My main machine over $3500 at retail (lil under $2500 in the end). But easily over 10g's worth pf stuff in all the machines in the LAN room. .....Thats be original cost though. Doubt a buncha GTX 285s and Core2 8400s would fetch as much as they used too.
