I played a lot of adventure games as a little kiddo.

Quest for Glory 3 to 6 (I *loved* these games), Kings Quest games,  Space Quest games, Carmen Santiago, Tales of Monkey Island, Myst, Legends of Kyrandia...but PROBABLY THE EARLIEST is this game which I recently found online and have been playing...

26908-126996-maniacmansion1png-620x.jpg

MANIAC MANSION! I still remember being a kid and getting freaked out when Edna or one of the others caught me in the mansion.

what were yours?

p.s. What ever happened to Sierra?

meatgrinderz
Yeah, I'm 100% with you on this one. I played "all" of the adventure games, both Sierra and Lucasarts. It seems that Sierra was part of Vivendi and got transferred to Activision when they bought Vivendi. Sierra was closed down in 2008. As for the topic question, I can remember playing Commander Keen, NHL 94, but I think quite a few the adventure games came out way before those, also Leisure Suit Larry series just to name another one. By the way, couldn't you play Maniac Mansion in Day of the Tentacle as well? I just have this image in my head that when you went to a certain room and played the arcade there... I might be confusing that to something else mind :D

Nothing embarassing about that, I really enjoyed playing that game as a kid, even other Disney movie games like Tarzan and Aladdin.

The first PC game(s) I can remember playing are Tetris 3D (a vector graphics game) and the first SimCity. They belonged to my brother.

Aside from educational games I used to have to play for school like Math Blaster or those Schoolastic games, the first proper games I played were Worms 2 and Red Alert 2

Just on a side note. Is anyone else getting the "damn, I'm old" feeling from this thread, even though you might not even be "that" old? :D Getting all sorts of flash backs from games that I hadn't even thought about in years.

Bump N Jump on commodore 64! so fun!

i bet most people in here have never seen one of the 5" flippy disc you had to load it from :)

Mavlow
While I have not seen that, and Canyon Climber was actually a cartridge, our Tandy 1000 computer in 1987 used 5 1/4" floppy disks for Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Police Quest that we had in 1987 :)

I sometimes get feeling that just by visiting Legacy Platforms and realizing that while so many people had the N64 as their first game console, 1996 was the year I graduated high school. If gaming keeps you feeling young, that's all I care about, and it's nice to be able to bring up game names of my early favorites just so they get some new attention from the younger generations. :)

Captain Crunch, or did it happen to be "Chex Quest" - based on the original Doom?

Trophy Bass I believe. I remember you had to reel in fish by moving the mouse in circles, I broke a couple of ball mice playing the game.

Red Alert is another one, I think Trophy Bass came first though.

Oh yeah, that's cool. Older games are in many cases a lot better (maybe tad of nostalgy?, but don't care LOL) than newer ones. Actually, I think it is not just nostalgy really, games these days forget the story too easily and focus on graphics etc. I think games are an awesome hobby, or is it a way of life, and on top of it all, I have a wife that actually supports it, so all good :D

Tarzan "Action Game" and a few other PlayStation-ported games were also available on PC :)

I also remember it being in a pack with 2 other Disney/Pixar licensed games around that time.

It was some kind of Space Invaders, played it on an Atari console with my dad and cousin when I was like 4 or 5 (I was terrible!). On ZX Spectrum I remember playing Chronos, and much later on Sega Mega Drive II I played Sonic 2 and Mortal Combat 3. Yea what an old fart I am :P

EDIT: missed the "PC" in the title. MY first PC game was Prince of Persia, at least I think that's the name.

Grand Prix Cricuit is probably the first PC game I have ever played. This game was made by Accolade way back in 1987, I was playing this game on the 286 my dad got during that time. The graphics at the time were very good and I enjoyed playing this game.

Some adventure game. Probably Oregon Trail or Pajama Sam. First real games were either Earth 2140 or Rollercoaster Tycoon.

Edit: Scratch that. My first PC game wasnt a PC game but a Mac game called Crystal Quest and after that some Xmen game and along with that some 5.6" disc flight sim featuring Chuck Yeiger. lol Thats something else...

For PC it was probably a game called Warlords somewhere around 1989 on a 386sx. Best description I can think of would be the spiritual predecessor of Heroes of Might and Magic.

Doom 2, Simcity 2000 and two sidescrolling shooters called Xenon and Raptor. Crazy thing was, I started out as a console gamer, playing games on my Gameboy and Sega Megadrive. I haven't bought a console since that Sega Megadrive.
