I would like to know about it. I heard about the 420 hours of gameplay duration of Resident Evil 2, the 110 hours of Oblivion... The twelve months of a normal Travian server...

So, what's the game which gives you the possibility to die before you have completed it?

Around 486 hours on Pokemon Yellow (Gameboy C), I don't really know where the game is but anyway if I find it, I will have proof :P.

I'd have to go with Oblivion, a open game that has solid player made content rolling out in bundles every day. I've heard people have spent well over 1,000 hours in the game over multiple characters.

some of the longest games were the old rpg's. I think of Daggerfall (elder scrolls 2) as one of the longest. Also you could count many perpetual games if you wanted I guess mmorpg's and online fps' can take up huge hours. I have spent hundreds of hours on strategy games too. But if you're talking about a game where you play through the story, the early 90's rps are surely the longest.

If you are Korean then it's probably StarCraft :P I'd go for Morrowind. I spent hundreds of hours playing that game with one character and still didn't manage to do everything. I'd become the guild head of half a dozen guilds, got my character over Level 75, and hadn't done much of the main plot at all. Other games I've put a lot of time into are things like Diablo, but that was essentially replaying the same areas over and over

I think you have to specify criteria for 'longest game' because like Everquest, people could still be playing Counter Strike since 1999, but that's not the longest game. I think for single player and using only one character to complete most or all of the games content in one sitting would be awarded to The Elder Scrolls games..

a few million hours out of the elder scrolls chapter 2: daggerfall mainly because it takes a roughly 2 weeks to walk the entire province lengthways and has the approximate area of great britain and a populace of npcs of a few thousand (i believe its 100,000) its got a huge number of towns and cities visible and must explore to find, a few 100 quests there is 1 downside to this monolith of a game.

a) it is too big for some

b) its a windows 98/2000 16 bit rpg with only fps as a move of view.

Last time I checked there are people I know who have been playing Ultima Online for 10 years (possibly 11 now).

I played that game quite a bit for short periods, and they WERE ALWAYS online.

This one person in particular. He was/is a great guy, and I would guess he spent...10,000 hoursUO? Possibly more.

That's pretty ridiculous. Assuming he plays an average of 3 hours a day, it would take over 9 years to accumulate 10,000 hours.

Well consider the fact the games been out for a decade, and if he's anything like any of the WoW addicts I've heard of, he could be averaging 6+ hours a day on that game!

I've spent around 500 hours on America's Army. Maybe around 100 hours on Battlefield 2.

I'm probably at about 300+ hours of oblivion. I install many mods so my game never ends.

Ok, this is worse than Ultima Online. I checked and I have a message from a friend who was addicted to WoW.

In September 2006, he had nealry 4,800 hours of game time. That was 2 1/2 years ago. He is probably on pace to compete with the Ultima Online vets I mentioned, although they could easily be much higher than the 10,000 hour mark I mentioned.

On PC? well there are some games that don't end so they don't really have a measurement of gameplay, Sims for instance there is no completion it lasts as long as you feel the urge to play it. Online games are another type of game that can last as long as you have the urge to play it so yeh basically games that are free based and don't have an ending as such have the longest gameplay, lasts as long as you want it, could be days could be years or could be decades...(if your a little sad.)

Another contender is Championship Manager or Football Manager series from SI Interactive. This football management sim can be played till death. :) I have read that many people still plays CM-01/02 which is 7.5 years old. It's getting updated by community even today. :)

Ive played EQ1 on and off since mar 1999 but often forgot to run it with xfire on so it never logged my true hrs. I suspect i would have over 10,000+ hrs (atleast, if not more) logged in that game by now, spread out over 10 yrs and 4 accts / 13 toons. The true hrs i'll never know but its gotta be a lot.
