Whats Up With TF2?

Ok so im looking to buy this game because of the 50% off sale. So first of all, anyone know how long the sale goes for? And now for the real question, whats with this game? As in could someone please explain the item buisiness to me? Did they merge with borderlands and are now haveing randomized loot drops or what? Cuz ive seen videos, some people say you gotta buy the stuff, others say you can get it from random loot drops... Do they just drop random loot around in matches or what? Someone please explain how this works...

You get random items dropped every hour or two.. with a limit of 7 or 8 a week that you can get.

Just play the game and you get new weapons/hats and Items for jsut playing.

You can also unlock items by gettign achievements and also you can CRAFT certain items into new items and hats!

You dont have to buy a single item, its just there for people who want to buy em instead of crafting or getting them randomly.

You can just buy TF2 and not pay another penny and youll have a blast (;

It's not a random drop in the sense of Diablo or Borderlands. Either through achievements or random play you will get a pop up that says you Found an item which you can then go into the class loadout and swap for the alternate weapon. And each unlock replaces a specific default weapon. For example, the jarate (jar of pee) replaces the machine gun for the sniper.

Not true, I've recieved multiple items from 1 drop before, and many other people have as well. One time I received 4 items off 1 drop.

yes that happens once in awhile but its not the norm, stometimes instead of getting one at a time you get em all at once, same thing though.
i got 3 at once, but that rarely happens.

Alot of the time it happens if people IDLE for awhile, then all the items are all stacked up, thats why you see some gettign 4-6 at the same time, alot of the time thats from IDLING in a server, then playing later and it gives you a bunch.

If you have not played in a long time or if you IDLE often you get those items in bunches more often.

Ok guys now what about the crafting protion? Can someone explain that new portion of the game to me?
