Do any of you use the "windows experience index" in windows vista and win7? ive got a rating of 5.5.the rates gofrom 1.0 to 7.9 max and are based on your lowest sub score.

if you go to your games folder and click on a game icon you can see its rating, and compare yours to get an idea of how well the game will work on your pc.

it sub scores processor, ram, graphics, gaming graphics, and your hard drive letting your know whats bottle necking your pc,in my case it is my ram that got the 5.5

I got 5.8. Which was my hard drive. Weird because I have raptors and they're supposed to be the fastest hard drives.

Processor 5.9

RAM 5.9

Graphics 5.9

Gaming Graphics 5.5

Hard disk 5.9

In windows Vista the Max you can get is 5.9 without hacking it and in windows 7 The max you can get is 7.9 without hacking and this score is limited to solid state hard drives so there is really No way you can compare the two OS's scores. Just thought I'd point that out.

Held back by my harddrive score- despite it being a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB - which has some of the fastest ratings for a 7,200rpm drive. Not sure what they want to get a 6 or more? Raptors? RAID? SSD?

This is really just a showoff topic. In that respect I thought I might as well post as well :)

Processor 7.3

RAM 7.3

Graphics 7.1

Gaming Graphics 7.1

Hard disk 5.9

Figure the only way to overcome the HDD 5.9 obstacle would be get a SSD drive. Have to sell my car to afford one though.
Jiggly, what type of HDD's do you use and what RAID config? Noticed you went over the 5.9 threshold.

Wonder why you get a better score with your 4870 than I do with my 4870x2 which onlyscores 7.1? I don't suppose it's because by putting in a Physx card into the other PCI-e slot, the 4870x2 PCI-e slot speed is now 8x instead of the normal 16x?

How do you game on that?

The old games which using the RAM requirements of 512 MB RAM or lower can run better, but the heavy games which using higher RAM specs may got laggy. I had been playing old games that I had been played on my old PC which is not so powerful as the new ones which is near 1year old.

Well a quick google confirms it. Your mobo Definitely CAN overclock. one post mentioned a CTRL+f1 command to open advanced options.

cornholio157

Windows 7 allows it. It doesn't work in Vista.
I have my ATI as my primary (DVI plugged into monitor), Nvidia as secondary extended desktop (plugged into VGA of monitor). No display is shown on Nvidia card, it just sits there doing the Phsyx work while my 4870x2 does the GPU stuff.I did it because I wanted Batman AA with Physx and had an old8800GTS sitting in the cupboard getting dusty. No loss of FPS at all maxed out. Same with Mirrors Edge.
If you want step by stepon how to do thisPM me.

Do yourself a favor and take out that Nvidia card, Nvidia and ATI dont play well with eachother lol. I got a 4870 512mb and i'm getting 7.5
