Whooaa!! When they said those new ATI video cards would sell out like hot cakes boy were they right!! They have been sold out for almost a month now and they still haven't been back in stock!! :x The 5870, 5850, and 5770 are all sold out!! And it is so frustrating because I was about to build a PC for someone until the 5770's went out of stock!! :x Now I have to do his configuration all over again (which I personally don't mind doing anyway). And I was really looking forward to perhaps getting a 5770 for myself as well, but it looks like I might not even be able to find one in time for the holiday season:cry: . I'm going to Email AMD/ATI right away and tell them to increase production of their DirectX11 video cards because they have no idea how much demand there is for them right now;) . Anyway please tell me your opinions as well ;) :)

Exact same problem here in UK, although we do have 5770's. All websites been saying preorder for 5870 and 5850 for like 2 months now. I was planning on getting a 5870 for Xmas but doesn't look like it's gonna happen now, most frustrating. They shouldn't launch a product nobody can buy.

TSMC, the chip maker for BOTH AMD and Nvidia, is having problems with their 40nm process on their GPUs.

In September they got a new production machine for the 40nm process and they are getting it online now, slowly, so you should start seeing a rise in GPU availability here in a few weeks.

Right now AMD is only ABLE to ship out a couple thousand GPUs to board makers for e-tailers and retailers because TSMC is having yield problems.

AMD hopes that by the end of November or before Christmas shipments of 58XX cards will increase to the tens of thousands per week.

Woah tens of thousands per week? Is that true? Jeez these things are going to price spiral downwards big time. I guess they'll repeat what the 48xx series have done in terms of great price performance, and all this with better power consumption (I think).

EDIT: btw had to remove your source of info link - it gave my html problems

Well... from a business perspective you may be right about Nvidia's waiting being a good move. But I love my 5870, and I think most people that were lucky enough to get a 5800 series card would agree.

Ha no I actually like Nvidia (I've been using Nvidia video cards up until now). It's just that going with two 5770's in crossfire was the best GPU configuration that I could fit into his budget. Also, I personally want to experience the new ATI video cards (and unfortunately it's unlikely that I would be able to afford a Fermi video card when it comes out anyway).

Arghh, It wasnt a choice by Nvidia to delay the release of their cards because their chip manufacturer was haveing trouble, it was because thy themselves were having problems releasing the cards on time. It is still a bad idea for Nvidia because ATI has had more time on the market, and they will already be releasing their X2 cards by the time Nvidia first starts to release their normal cards

crossfire dont works anyways with more than two cards, this X2cards were always garbage. 3 Way SLI is and will always be king of the hill.

Yes crossfire can work with more than two cards! Perhaps you've just had bad experiences with crossfire?

You can crossfire, 4x4890s on those AMD motherboards with 4 pci express slots. It works, but the cpu will bottleneck them.

Newegg has an eta of 11/23 I think for some 5850's I believe... Whether you'll get one if you want one is another story I guess. :) I was thinking about getting one, but the lack of availability and spending money elsewhere, plus my 4850 runs most games at my res fine.... lol Maybe middle of next year, things should be cheaper and faster then anyway, and nvidia should have their stuff out by then. (not that I want nvidia, but more competition, cheaper prices...)

of course you can do this but will it work? There are really rare Games that support more than two ATI cards the rest is buggy and lags. Quad SLI is better but still its possible to get microlags at any time. 3way SLI is the way to go. AMD is really smart i would do same and releasing hardware solution without drivers as long people believe it.

I think that after the GTX300 series is out, the standings will be either exactly the same, or very close to how it is now. Nvidia with the power, and ATI with the cheapness

kemar7856
Well the ATI Directx 11 video cards are very popular because they are the only cards with directx 11 support and they offer the best Price/performance ratio ;)
