Just want to get a general feel for the age and memory of people who frequent this forum. A lot of times I get the feeling that the majority of people frequenting these boards, or any PC gaming boards for that matter, have only really been on the scene for less than five years or so. It's a discouraging feeling; kind of makes me think that most people who are my age or older have "grown up" and left gaming behind, and that I should have done the same (even though I never will.) :P

Anyway, guess we'll see a ways into this poll.

1992, but the first game I played was from 82', I don't remember the name only the year since I was amazed in 2000 when I looked it up and I saw it was that old.

Well, I started at around 1990...remeber the first game I ever bought was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, then Loom, and I also recall playing a lot of Commander Keen. Yeah, those were the times for me!

Commander Keen and Bio Menace, I haven't played games as stressful and fun at the same time, since then :) PoP 1, 2 and Blackthorne where nothing compared to the difficulty of those two.

1993. I was 3 at the time. My brother introduced me to Civilization and I've been gaming pretty much exclusively on PC since then :P

And yeah, there are a lot of people who were PC gamers in the 80's and 90's and then have "grown out of it". My older brother, and my sister's husband for example. Both were pretty hardcore PC gamers in the 80's and 90's, but they "don't have time anymore". :(

started gaming on a PC in the early 90's with wolfenstein 3d and Doom 1 and 2. Didn't really find a game I was addicted to until Warcraft 2 though. Unfortunately I took quite a few years off and didn't come back until around 2006 so basically I missed the glory years.

well i was interested in PC gaming since i was a toddeler really. i started with a BBC micro.....but i was very young and struggeled to understand it so my parents would have to load up games for me. that was around 1990-91 i think. unofortunately where i live (ireland) computers were just not affordable at all when i was young. so i got a console (a nes) and that tied me over. but my friend had a PC (he was in a rich family...no im not bitter :P) and i was always really interested in playing games on it like commander keen. anywho long story short, my dad got a job at gateway and got a nice discount on a computer (a 333HMz P3 with 32MB of ram and integratred graphics with win98). that was around 98-99. thats when i started to play games on the PC with my own rig. i would have started sooner but...yknow :P.

My first PC game was AoE 2, my dad's computer wasn't good enough so I had to bring it to my neighbor's house to play. I actually started 'gaming' when I got Warcraft 3 some time after we got a new computer in '02.

About 1996 - one of the first games I owned was Gex: Enter the Gecko. A highly intertextual side scrolling game. Great sense of humour.

That's to bad that they don't have time anymore. I started in the late 70's on an Apple thing that my dads coworker had. It was a Star Trek type game where you had a field of stars and letters representing starships and you shot them off. I got my first computer as a hand me down from my dad in the mid 80's. First games where the Starflight series and the original Bard's Tales I think. My dad never grew out of it and played till the day he died at age 64. I'm 54 and don't plan on stopping any time soon.

~1995, I think. My older brothers all played Duke Nukem 3D, Doom, strife, and heretic, so I watched or played with them. Oh, and Space Quest. Looooooooooots of SQ. Other games I played were Jill of the Jungle, king's quest, Commander Keen, and, my personal favorite, Hocus Pocus.

I started playing games in general back in 1989 and went to nearly all Pc gaming 1998-1999. Boy do I miss those days games, lately havent done a great job overall, everything from regenerating health to everything going mainstream/mediocre. What happened to the love, passion, fresh ideas and stories?

You do know that PC stands for Personal Computer (not ibm compatible or x86 tech), and the Commodore was a personal computer. I'll also add that at that time, the c64 was the better gaming machine due to it's superior graphics and sound.

Born in 1990, and I've been gaming on PCs and consoles alike for as long as I can remember. (I STILL remember the DOS/Win3.1 days, as well as having to set up my sound card's address, IRQ, and DMA settings in each and every game just to hear anything!) My only regret is that I didn't start on an Amiga instead. I wish I had a time machine, an A1200 or A4000, and a good selection of games to interject into my childhood along with my father's IBM PC clone (whose specs I don't know the details of, but it definitely had VGA and a Sound Blaster or compatible sound card judging from how the games looked and sounded).

Had completely forgotten about Hocus Pocus haha. I started about the same time. Loved the commander keen series, and there are tons of other DOS games I've probably forgotten by now.

I don't know if this is what you are talking about, but I used to LOOOOOOVVVVEEE Crystal Caves as a kid...same kind of premise. It was so great and colorful. Another great for me was the Oregon Trail, and a game where you played as Oscar from Sesame Street. Ohhhh yeeaaaa
