When do i upgrade

I ve been running p4 pres"hot" 3 ghz, 1 gb ram and nvidia 6600gt and a 15"benq lcd fer the last 3 years.

I have saved enough for an upgrade.

I already have 800(320x2, 160x1) gb space, 2 dvd writers, a cooler master 600 w psu, g5 laser, razer mantis surface, thermalright cpu cooler, logitech keyboard, 5.1 speakers.

Now i have saved equivalent money to 1200$ fer cpu,mobo, ram and gpu.and another 100 $ fer sound card.

Now i hear x38 is comin out soon, as is pci express 2 and penryn.

the last few previews on some sites have shown that first gen x38 mobos have no pci-e 2 slots and with rumours of nvidia 9 series being pci-e 2, i want sumthin future proof not like what happened when i bought agp mobo.

so i want to know if i should wait till feb 08 till all products are launched or go for whats available now.

also when will the mainstream penryn's will be launched ?? as the first is said to be an "extreme" processor worth 999$

also i ll be movin to OZ nxt year fer studies so i wanted to know if i can carry my desktop pc (cabby only) without any problems.

Why not just cannibalize the system, replacing the mobo, graphics card, and RAM while keeping the rest? It sounds like all your peripheral equipment and drives are great.
