Eventually it will. Especially if WoW 2 was released, or something like World of Starcraft. Personally, I think I'm done with WoW for quite some time, at least until I can see how Cataclysm will be. I've just been playing it for too long and it's just plain boring.

Either when World of Starcraft comes out, or when World of Warcraft 2 comes out.

Drazule

this

in short: it wil never stop being the king. People need to accept that WoW (and its sequals, expansions) are the exception to the rule, and not the rule itself.

MMOs are a difficult genre to succeed in,and there will never be another MMO as successful as WoW (excluding its successors).

Nope. Halo is an xbox game. It wouldn't have the same potential. Either they make the first Xbox360 mmo. or they make it on PC, which means Xbox players would have to get a PC too. and enough people to outnumber wow? WoW and Halo's fanbases hardly cross over. your guess is very unlikely. I'd have to go with anything Blizz makes. as soon as it releases, 90% of the WoW fanbase will know, and spread the word that there's a new Blizzard MMO.

Just because it has the Halo name on it doesn't mean it's guaranteed to be good.

Hm..If someone hacked wow servers and deleted every character, took every item, etc. And another MMO jumped in the very next moment, WoW would lose. But I think that's the only probability.

wow will not just stop.. it will fade... constantly losing install base due to patchs/nerfs and the abundant amount of better looking/performing/bettter story telling or atmospheric mmos that are comming out.

for instance, i have a few mmo's im looking forward to. and i have already quit wow, it wasnt intriguing me anymore.

1. SWTOR

2. The Secret World (if done right this will be amazing)

3. Torchlight mmo

4. Huxley

so yeah, these are just the ones im interested in. add the game APB to that and thats my gf's list (who also just quit wow for same reasons)

thats just mmos and the ones we are interested in.. not to mention the tons of others out there... so yea wow's fame will slowly start fading away. i dont think it can actually compete that well now, much less the comming years. (new expansions or not)

Its obvious isn't it? When Pokemon Online comes out. However, only if it is not developed by Nintendo >__>.Candy-Star

Dude i know, will they just hurry up and make it already.

It seriously has the potential to be the biggest MMO of all time, and I have never said that about any of the 'WoW killers' that have come and gone.

WoW will never die as long as PC's will exist in this world...

At the end of 2009 spring WoW had 11 millions active subscribers(free beta keys and other things like that are not included in the 11 mio.)

But Blizzard had some problems and lawsuits in Asia at the end of the summer(2009) and all the server's there where closed and an estimated 5 mio subscribers loss...however i dont know if that problem is solved now but i know for 1 month+ the servers where down...

Anywas i myself dont like wow at all...i like mmo's but i dont like quests based mmo's...I made the mistake of geting Aion this year and let me tell u guys that Aion is the most boring game ever, from my point of view :D...Coz in the end it comes to the peoples choices and taste...and thats why huge amounts of WoW players migrate to this new mmo...because its just like WoW only with better graphics

WoW is a very very very very very slow peaced game in wich ur main goal is to make quests again and again and along the way lvl-up...this kind of gameplay is suitable for peoples that preffer to go trough the game slow but certain... without involving quick thinking, strategy etc.

I for one, like pvp based mmo's like Linage 2 on wich the pvp's are present in the game from the verry beginning and where u dont have to spend months and months to be able to go and pvp....

Now games like Lineage 2 are fast peaced(ah well not that fast...but in comparison with WoW is damn fast :D) and it involes quick thinking quick manuvers, strategy...but i also know that peoples who like this kind of games(like Lineage 2) are very few and thats why WoW will never die...there are simply too much peopels that likes slow gameplay and no other mmo can change their tastes in a few years...

WoW is the King of MMO games and it will remain that way for the next 5 years at least....but then again this is only my opinion :P

I think The Old Republic has a pretty good chance of taking a large chunk of users away from WoW.

Simple: when someone makes a better MMO. How long it will take, no one can really tell. Maybe it WILL be WoW 2, maybe it'll be some other MMO no one was even paying atention to, but it'll eventually happen.

Seriously, what gain do get from posting on GS? or Playing video game sin general? People will never ever blame themselves for their own mistakes, always looking for a scapegoat. Also WoW will never die, has Starcraft died? has Diablo 2 died? Games never die, they just fade somewhat.

Diablo 1 kinda died. Warcraft 1 and 2 died. Games only die when an improved sequel or just a better game of the exact same type comes out. Will SC1 die when SC2 comes out? Not instantly, but certainly will after a while as ppl upgrade for the new version.

I don't think it has to be better.. Just different.. As it stands I can only think of a select few that are actually unique.. Ones like Eve Online which I hear of great things is one of them, though its too complicated for average user base to get into.. WoW's is a pretty set standard when it comes to MMOs with minor differences, sooner or later people will get tired of this and when one comes out that is just as polished as WoW but a different from the set fantasy and typical MMORPG's.. There you go... I personally wish Eve Online would be more popular from what I read its a vastly unique experience.

I think that it will take a really long time before WOW is defeated.Look at Aion,Many people thought that it will defeat WOW for sure but in the end,WOw still remain standing. But i got a high hope for the new star wars mmo.lets just hope it does not turn into star wars galaxy.i wonder if WoW would be defeated when IW finally decided to release a MMO version of COD.Speaking of FPS,i think MAG will be a good oppenent for WoW.200+ players in one game is just a dream come truth for many fps players.
