Hey! i heard the DX11 support patch was supposed to happen SOON. anybody know when that is?

Google is your friend. Besides we can't tell you ask we don't know how much work they are putting into it.What would be the visual advantage of using DirectX 11?

I don't need google for I know what it can do. However the certainty that it would automatically make the game better has to base on something more substantial than just wishful thinking or that just rendering in DirectX 11 would magically make the game look better.
Apparently you do since you are asking what dx11 can do.I don't need google for I know what it can do.Pedro

WOW. I know what it can do. But can anyone of you say what can it or will it do for the game? You all want it so much yet NONE of you can state ONE DirectX 11 feature that would be implemented, can be implemented in Crysis 2. It also a HUGE assumption that it would make a difference when the fact of the matter is that it can LITERALLY make no visual changes to the game.

Dude, NO one knows what it'll do for the game except the devs. THEY know how striking the visual impact will be, NOT us. Like you said, we know what DX11 CAN do. But we won't know what it'll do for Crysis 2 until we see how well the devs pulled it off. I am quite relax however, people have to realise that that DX 11 would not necessarily make the game better looking. It can simply support it without taking advantage of any of the DX 11 features.

KInda stupid for them to do that, the least they could do is create some direct compute shader so stuff like the SSAO would render faster.[QUOTE="fm_coyote"] Dude, NO one knows what it'll do for the game except the devs. THEY know how striking the visual impact will be, NOT us. Obviously DX11 is gonna make the game look better in parts.... maybe in lots of parts or maybe in small parts. I ain't buying it until it has DX11 support... it's DISGRACEFUL that they brought out the game without it.There is no release date for it, Crytek hasn't said anything about it other than "we plan to release it", and both Crytek and nVidia have removed all mention of Crysis 2 being a DX11 game from their websites. At this point you should just assume that there's not going to be a DX11 patch, or even a DX10 patch for that matter. Crytek probably just lied about the DX11 patch to boost sales just like they lied about every other single thing regarding the PC version since the game was announced.Okay, so do we know WHEN its getting that patch!?
have they said?
And yeah, im hoping the DX 11 patch comes with better textures. I would LOOOVE if they released an HD texture pack like bioware did with DA2.
jettpack
Also, keep in mind that even if a DX11 patch were released it would be unlikely to add anything truly significant to the graphics. Good DirectX implementation requires that a game be developed with that version in mind. The best we can realistically hope for is some gimmicky effects like depth of field blur and possibly some very minor tesselation effects that probably won't even be noticeable.

So I wasn't going to buy the game till the DX11 patch... should I play it?

Hm.
If they implement DX11 into Crysis 2 in such a way like Metro 2033, then I could care less for Crysis 2 DX11. I've sat there looking at the screen comparing Metro 2033 DX9 and DX11 and I cannot tell the difference. The only difference is the huge loss in performance.Elann2008Apart from tessellation the main purpose of DX11 is optimization. Some devs just take this as they can use absurd quality shaders with the directcompute shaders. Some games that use it well like STALKER CoP will actually perform faster on DX11(without tessellation) than 10.1 while still using fancy stuff like contact hardening shadows and HDAO.
Yeah, if that's true it really pisses me off. Chances are though that we'll be able to mod/hack around it. The original Crysis, for example, could be forced to use all the DX10 features in DX9 via a simple edit to the config files. Even assuming we can't use a config edit for this, it will likely work by just examining the ID of your GPU (as evidenced by the fact that it's going to be specific enough to look for a GTX580 or GTX590), which is something that can be easily faked with a hacked DirectX .dll file (some GPU users had to use such a method to get decent performance in Fallout NV).http://www.gamemunition.com/rumors/did-nvidia-pay-crytek-to-delay-directx-11-support-for-crysis-2/

With all those folks buying it and getting EA their money why would they bother with the patch ? They have their money. You've got no leverage over them. Enjoy DX9 :)
Am I the only one that doesn't care what so ever about this? I mean sure it would give a nice boost, but it is not something that is going to make or break the game.. The game already looks great.sSubZerOoIt's not about making the game look better, or breaking/making the game. It's about dignity of a company that promised the platform that made them what they are something, and then never delivered...

And if the DX 11 features are something like the Crysis 1 DX 10 lies then they shouldn't even bother to release it.

Doesn't matter..they promised Directx11 support for this game and it would look very bad as a developing team to go againist that promise.
So what should I do guys...
Buy it?
Wait?
I want to play it but I guess I can always buy Homefront first....finish that and then buy Crysis
!!!!!!! SPOILER !!!!!!
On a side note: I'm nearly done with Dragon Age Origins? I've gathered all the allies and am on the quest in the main city where I have to rescue the Queen, but she double-crosses me. How many more hours? this game is neverending....

Or you could wait for a steam sale, that way you won't feel ripped off if they never release the patch for DX11. I have a feeling thought they are going to cancel it and cite that they would rather focus their efforts on Crysis 3......... Console exclusive that is.....

LOL. My plan of attack: - FINALLY finish Dragon Age Origins (does anyone know how long I have to go?) - Buy and beat HomeFront while waiting for DX11 patch (I know it has bad reviews but I want to play an invasion FPS) - Get Crysis when DX11 out and price is lower Good Plan? (play Dragon Age 2 eventually)LOL. Crysis 2 is a much better invasion FPS...
official announcement below: Cry-Tom : No patch was ever confirmed, I have no idea why this website even posted such information. This thread is locked just the same as the others for trying to spread inaccurate information. When there are any big announcements regarding Crysis 2 they will be posted on MyCrysis, if you read something about a patch for example, but don't see it on MyCrysis.com, then it isn't genuine. Here's the post since everyone want to see by themselves http://www.mycrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=15962 GOOD NEWS ________ Cry-Tom: Patch 1.2 will be made available through Auto-download feature in the coming week Cry-Tiago: Cooking some great DX11 tech bits for C2 fans, be patient guys. All I can say, is that we have 16 ms or more to have fun with pc hardware... (Source Twitter Account) -----------------------------------------------What it means------------------------------------------------------ "milliseconds. It means that using the DX11 API, there's a huge overhead of unused compute time that gives the engineers the ability to add in more features, content, etc. It's great because it means that PC will have much more than consoles. It's horrible because that shows just how much consoles held back the PC version. Console developers fight tooth and nail just to scrounge an additional ms for anything. Basically, the video card takes time to preform the tonnes of computations to render out a single frame. With a millisecond being a unit of time, it goes to show you just how much a computer can do in that duration. The minimum spec for PC has the video card shelling out over 500 gigaflop/s and it's not even a DX11 card. If memory serves, the first DX11 cards came three generations later (9k series, 200 series, and arriving on the 300 series). According to the CE3 autopsy posted a couple of days ago, water ripple propogation took only .2 milliseconds on consoles. The 16 ms in comparison would be akin to adding water propogation 80 times and not having any hindrance on performance, we still have to wait and see how much they will cram in but yes it's a VERY VERY good thing. to give you an idea of it sun shadows(very demanding) take between 2-5ms. they are talking about a good chunk of overhead before damaging your current fps. the new engine is quite impressive so we will see just how far they go now that they are not having to cater to consoles. That's where you have it wrong Crytek.
PC version should be left free to unleash it's maximum potential.... same as with consoles. No platform should "hold back" the other...
But being forced to work under console limitations allowed some of the most impressive tech wizardry ever. People claimed that Crytek achieves great things only when they have a lot of brute force to work with. Now they proved they're just as capable when taking the opposite approach.
Seriously it's unbelievable what they achieved using only DX9.
Although I agree with your statement (they say the XBOX version is the best looking game to date), I still feel PC gamers were left on the sidewalk. Yeah well you can imagine a lot of stuff, and it's counterproductive.
I think we can expect their DX11 patch to be at least comparable to the excellent x64 Far Cry patch.

Might be counterproductive, but I am just expecting a company of the calibre of Crytek to at least use the latest technology...not a DirectX that came out 10 years ago or so....Please Log In to post.
