Well DDR3 isn't going to be worth it until near the end of '08.
Wait for it to mature and for prices to drop a bit.

If you are planning on upgrading, make sure you get a Bearlake or AM2+ motherboard, both are due out very soon. I personally plan to pick one up with DDR2 slots since DDR3 will cost anywhere from $200-$600 per Gb for at least the first 6-10months.

Penryn was intially planned for a Q4 release in the server market and Q1 '08 for the desktop variant.
But samples are shipping this summer and the NDA is set  to expire July 15th, late Q3-Q4 is my best guess for the desktop chips.

It sounds like Intel has moved it up to at least a Q4 launch for desktop products, we will have to wait and see on July 15th if they release a specific date.

775 but you need a new Bearlake mobo to support it, since it needs an unkown mod atm, for Penryn's lower voltages.

I dunno but looking at the past launches, particularly the C2D mobo launch, expect prices above $150.
Most of the nice boards will probably be in the $200-$250 range.

Asus Deluxe Version are in 200-270 range along with Gigabytes DQ replacements.  Gigabyte's P965 replacement can be had for 140-170.  Asus P5k Vanilla is @ $140.00.  Not sure when you will see these though as Intel pulled some bs and is trying to force their embargo.  I grabbed the P35 DDR2/DDR3 GA-P35C-DS3R from clubit.com.  I will have some OC results posted early next week.  (Should be tuesday if build goes ok.  Not sure how this thing will like my ram since it is so new and I have yet to see a QVL list or even a manual.)

Edit, embargo should end June 9th according to Intel.  NDA end May 21st.  This is a crap move from Intel but Barcelona may have them scared!  :D

I wouldn't get a PS3. Theyre too expensive. By the time any good games come out for it, it will be $400.

What makes you think you won't get sick of the PS3 since it has a fraction of the games?

Yeah, I'm not bashing the PS3, I'm just saying by the time some good titles come out, the console will be substantially cheaper. So you can buy it now for $600 and get Resistance, and play it in all its mediocrity, or wait till some really nice exclusives come along, like ffxiii and buy the console for $400 or so.

There's no such thing as 45nm Conroe. Conroe will stay 65nm. Penryn, Wolfdale and Yorkdale are 45nm and have new SSE4 instructions, they're like Core 2.5 Duos/Quads. Nehalem will be 32nm Core 3.

So It must be the Penryn chips coming out later this year, but that doesn't make sense because Intel has stated Penryn is coming out in H1 '08,so i figured they where just changing the die on current 65nm conroe's too 45nm conroes because 45nm chips are coming out later this year, whatever architecture there on.

Intel felt they would be able to ramp up production for a Q3-Q4 2007 launch. :/

Conroe and Penryn share the same microarchitecture, but Penryn just has some tweaked up optimisations, What makes things really complicated is that Penryn is built on Intel's new 45nm high-k metal gate transistor process.
http://www.intel.com/technology/silicon/45nm_technology.htm?iid=nextgen_core+body_45nm_technology
Put things simply, it allows Intel to ramp up clock speed beyond 3GHz (using the core 2 uarch), without increasing power consumption (thus reducing heat).
