Halo is overrated quite a bit. The first game is the only one worth playing imo even if it is a tad bit repetitive and what not. I wouldn't go as far to call it awesome though.

I also played this on the pc and i thought it was average, the main character has certain attractive i suppose as a protagonist, but i found the game to be a bit repetitive, the story wasnt that great and the fact that i lost my saved games like 2 hours b4 the ending didnt made me exactly love it. Oh yea and they totally ripped off the headcrabs from HL.

For us PC games it is nothing new at all. But for those who play consoles I was something special. I too think it is overrated.

Halo is pretty overrated. It's a decent game, but in pc terms, it's a "good" as best.

You guys wouldn't be saying such things in 2001. Today, it's quite out dated.

Heck, the original Half-Life was fun back in 1998. It then became stale in 2002.

When people say that the flood spores in Halo have been ripped off from Half-Life, I get really angry.

The Headcrabs in the Half-Life series are considered to be... animals, to say the least. The spores are not animals. They are creatures that have been existing since the the beginning of time, meant to consume the galaxy of flesh and bone. Their defination is... undefinable. They are "destined" things.

Honestly people who say Halo is overated are completely wrong. Halo was revolutionary (however I will agree moreso on consoles) and it was almost perfect in every way. No FPS before it, however, was so immersive and entertaining ( my opinion but there weren't many games to meet it) as Halo. It is not overated. Overated means that whatever has been reviewed or rated did not deserve it, or did not meet the expectations of such reviews. Halo, however completely deserves it as it is a spectacular series and a masterpeice at that.

It was still overated then, just as it now.

You don't understand... the concept of headcrabs taking control of people and turning them into strong zombie things was stolen by halo. they just presented it as a viral thing instead of an alien creature.

All i could read was Blah bla bla im a lemming bla bla, no offense but they pretty much did the same it doesnt matter if they were TEH BIGGEST EVIL IN THE GALAXY  they still did the same thing tried to kill u like mindless drones just like headcrabs and the little ones were just a smaller version of the headcrabs except they looked like a balloon.

But this is not the forum for this so i'm not gonna say anything else, rant all u want.

What thats all you can say? Its because you don't have any solid statements or facts to ground a response on because you KNOW I am right. I am not saying Halo is better than any other game, or even as good as some. All I am saying is that it is a excellent title, worthy of its prestige and no one should say otherwise. If they do, they are looking for attention or have some idiotic issue with it that has nothing to do with the game itself, but of their own personal problem.

I have played plenty, I personally own Doom 1 and 2, Quake, All of the Marathon games, Deus Ex and both the System Shock Titles, and many more. All are excellent classics that have spectacular gameplay, epecially for their time. I just personally beleive that Halo is equal or better than them.

Fair enough I guess. It's my opinion though that those games are better than Halo especially when it comes down to immersiveness and being revolutionary.

Yes, that is perfectly okay. I too believe them to be great games. I just dislike it when people state Halo is "overated" or "sucks".

I'll give you an example of a much better, more intelligent, better designed game, that blends light rpg elements into a first person shooter, System Shock 2 (1999) failed sales wise. It was a complete flop... compared to that game, Halo doesn't deserve the adulation it gets. Not to mention halflife and numerous other titles, Halo is a good game, excelent production values, but it's not THAT good.

No, "Rubbish" was sufficient. We don't need to say anymore because it's so blatantly obvious to us experienced PC gamers. Halo is overrated. You are not right, it is not an excellent title, it is not worthy of it's prestige, and everyone should know this.

I played System Shock, and I agree it deserves alot more attention for the incredible atmosphere it created, and revolutionary gameplay. Infact I almost wish Bioshock was instead a remake or sequel of System Shock. However, you have to understand Halo got more attention for many reasons. Aside from the down right overflow of advertisements it received, Halo practically revolutionized the genre for consoles, no FPS before it was implemented aswell into a console. It was fun, and interesting to many people who had never experience something like that before. But probably the most correct reason for its success was its incredible multiplayer that had people come together to play. Halo system-link parties erupted across the world, and it became more of a social phenomenon. Its sequels only built upon these with what I have to say Halo 2 being to first GREAT online CONSOLE game. So yes, there are many other games that deserve more, and many believe that Halo is given to much credit, but in reality it was a movement of culture for console gaming, and not many games can pull that off.

Yes, it brought it from complete crap to a hell of a lot of fun. I can think of plenty of console games online that are easily as fun if not more fun than tons of Pc games online. Halo, Forza Motorsports, Rock Band, Grand Theft Auto 4, and supersmash bros. brawl are all good examples of excellent online game for consoles. I will not say PC-online gaming isn't fun or bad, there is NO console game that can replicate the enjoyment of Battlefield and Unreal Tournament Fragging, or the rush you get when annialating an enemy in Starcraft or other RTS's, but don't go and talk your ass off about console multiplayer being crap when your just a console biased idiot.

36O, you are forgetting two things. First off, this isn't system wars. Second off, what is said in this forum is an OPINION and not fact. Nothing you have said is fact and nothing anyone else has said is fact. Get over it, move on, and if you enjoy console multiplayer more then PC multiplayer then go and play it.

See, I loved Halo for the Xbox. Playing 16 player LAN parties was a laugh but when I started playing PC games online, such as BF1942 I felt that Halo wasn't as good. Now remember, this is my opion and if you don't like said opinion, you can close your mouth and not complain about my opinion. Got that? Thanks, bye.

Okay don't give me the "opinion" crap explanation again, your not my mother. And responding to a comment is what makes a forum go, and I wouldn't make such a big deal about it if he acted like it WAS his opinion, but people like him describe it as if it is fact. I am not going to complain about your comment of the subject, because it is rightfully your opinion the way your wrote it. And just for the record, I enjoy both equally, don't make unsupported comments of me.

I'm just sick of seeing the flame-fests that occur when opinions collide. Sure, you enjoyed Halo but Joe Bob across the street may have hated it. Either way, you shouldn't get so hot headed over what someone states. You can't win in a forum filled with opinions, so why try? Just state your reasons why you enjoy the game and go on. If someone asks you why you found a certain thing about the game enjoyable when others haven't, then reply in a calm fasion and explain your feelings. Same goes for any forum goer really but hey, it doesn't happen.

Anyways, back to what I was saying. I truely enjoyed Halo when it was first released for the Xbox. I enjoyed playing squish as many people as you can in the warthog in a custom race, playing warthog volleyball, and capture the flag. The single-player story wasn't the greatest to grace this planet but it was well told and it held your attention. And the graphics, in my opinion were very polished for the time. Now, I have been playing the PC a lot longer then consoles and when I say that I found BF1942 better then Halo, it isn't denouncing Halo but stating my personal feelings towards both games.

Anyways, happy postings and try to remain civil.

So we should give Halo credit because it brought console multiplayer gaming from complete crap to being mediocre?

Give me a break.

Cdscottie

Okay I understand what your saying and I respect that, but my responses are completely civil and intelligent, as you don't see me running around here shouting "OMG HALO OWNS EVERYTHING!!!", no I support all my opinionated statements well. I will admit I get a little "hot headed", but ONLY in response to someone doing the same to me, you have to fight fire with fire :)

Plus, its arguments like them that keep forums interesting IMO, and me entertained as I am quite bored at the moment lol

You are right, Forza, GTA4 and supersmash bros brawl are examples of EXCELLENT multiplayer gaming for consoles. These games did not follow Halo, they didn't need Halo to guide them to where they are now. That is why Halo shouldn't be considered the catalyst for bring console multiplayer to greatness.

There is something that you guys are forgetting: what made Halo so revoltuonary?

-rechargeable health

-Limited weapon inventory

-Left handed grenade throwing

-Gun bludgeoning

^^^^

All of these things have been copied by shooters in the future, such as Crysis. Half-Life and Half-Life2 do not follow these gameplay ideas since the HL series has only focused more on story, not on gameplay.

Well it didn't, Halo only guided future FPS's for multiplayer. As for the online console games preceding it, all Halo (2) did was prove online console gaming can be successful. At the eruption of online console gaming, there were several other online multiplayer games released, but none as successful, well implemented or recieved as Halo was at the time. Infact, I believe it was the number one most played online console game for several years, until gears of war came out. Correct me if I am wrong though.

For me the single player experience is garbage, but when I played the game cooperatively it was great. As far as I know Halo for the PC does not have a cooperative component and after testing the demo out I must say that the quality of my previous single player experience with the Xbox version remained in the PC version. However the multiplayer in the PC version of Halo is a lot of fun, so I guess it makes up for that weakness.

Thankyou for some little support here lol, I feel ALONE. But yeah, dual weilding, hi-jacking, (although those two were used before, but I personally can say I think Halo implemented both very well ) COUNTLESS Master Cheif look-alikes and many more are some more things copied.

Yeah, I can actually AGREE with you this time lol, although I only played the HL2 demo (steam issues, but holy crap thats a whole other story in another thread lol), it was very fun and engaging even without knowing the story. I also played all of Half Life 1, and loved it (game play wise, story was good but I have an idea it was far more branched out in HL2)

I don't think rechargable health is all that much revolutionary nor does it help gameplay along unless you are in MP. Health packs weren't that much better either but I think it was a step back for gameplay in SP campaigns to have rechargable health. Otherwise it did progress FPS in these aspects.

Well to me a big pushing factor for pushing on in the campaign was the story, I honestly think its very good, one of the best. I loved the gameplay, but it is far more better in co-op.

Yeah, when you look at rechargable health from a far off point, it seems nothing special. But considering how many games are now implementing it is actually quite shocking, and really it does make a huge difference. I can't think of any fps's I have played recently that don't use this feature.

Half-Life 2 as mentioned. F.E.A.R. greatly resents it until you get like one point left then it gives you nine more to be nice. Um, CoD 1 which came after Halo. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. too if I'm correct.

Ah, okay. I think its thrilling though, from the moment you crash onto the first halo, to the cinematic scene when you an your A.I. companion cortana are flying to the Pillar of Autumn with the epic title "and the horse you rode on". And thats just the first Halo lol, there is the whole series, then you have the books etc. But if you don't like it thats fine.

Well COD1 I think was released in 2003, and Halo 1 was released in 2002. Also the recharge health feature wasn't implemented until Halo 2 so you have to think before THAT, which was 2004. Also, every COD after used it. AND I really want to play F.E.A.R but haven't gotten to it yet lol, I think I will soon, its only 20 bucks now right? Since Project Origin is coming soon (looks awesome), I should play FEAR soon aswell.

Well I am going to go, I have made my statements, opinions, etc blah blah blah. Wow, I just have to say this is the longest I have ever been on a thread arguing lol.
