I dunno, I think the current Unreal Engine is fairly competitive with Crysis. (and it runs a heck of a lot better.) Graphics alone vs Graphics & Stability.GreatSageCorban

i own both unreal 3 and crysis and run them both on max settings, and although i believe crysis is the better looking game, unreal 3 comes pretty damn close to it. and it def runs better then crysis, but crysis doesnt run too bad on my rig. anyways, im not an expert on graphics, but i am anxious to find out which of all these upcoming games runs the best along with having amazing graphics.

[QUOTE="WhiteWorld"][QUOTE="OoSuperMarioO"]It has been beat already in my book. I find Mass Effect to be a better looking game then Crysis. Sure Cryengine 2 is graphically superior then Unreal Engine 3 but on developer use Bioware really nailed it on this one. Mass Effect is a stunning looking game and imo the best looking game I've experience thus far.OoSuperMarioO

I refuse to believe you just said that as it would annoy me so much that I'd have to say something mean so I'm going to convince myself you are joking and exit this thread.

Well as an Artist for well over 8 years Icertaintly trust my eyes and judgement. I agree that Cryengine 2 is a superior engine by todays standard but I yet seen a developer use it as efficiently as some Unrealengine 3 games. Crysis was very weak from an artistic perspective. Bioware really impressed me by squeezing out that level of beauty utilizing UE3 while still maintaining great performance even on console hardware. Mass Effect is just so stylized and is impressive from a technical perspective as well as artistic perspective. Mass Effect is really the best looking title I have experience thus far.

I couldn't disagree more. Mass Effect does not have great art. It doesn't even have good art. Are we playing the same game? Surely you must be playing some other Mass Effect than the one I played because that Mass Effect's buildings were all the same on every planet in the galaxy and all of them grey, and its equipment was ridiculously bland and identical in every way but slight colour differences and it had planets that were also identical in every way but colour.

When you think about how much they could have done with the art in this game you realize how they failed with the art here. The huge amount of vastly different cultures they could have let us experience... look at how different human cultures are, then imagine how different an alien culture would be from ours but they even have the same clothing style for f***'s sake! Instead they took the easy way out. I'm sure you can give me an in-game reason for the entirely grey architecture, the identical cultures, the identical clothes, the identical weapons and whatever else I mentioned but I don't care if you can because they made up those excuses themselves. If BioWare had better artists they could have gone to town with this game, but clearly their artists are unimpressive to say the least and so the game looks bland.

i don't think the game featuring identical cultures and clothes and weapons and so forth for all races has much to do with art style; if you mean that the game's not realistic in that it features similar cultures and clothes, etc., for all the different races, perhaps you have a point. but i think art style has more to do with...well, something else. from what i've seen, i think this game's quite beautiful-looking, and i'm sure that has something to do with its style. but what do i know about art...

Far Cry 2 may, but I've heard both that the max PC settings will be the same quality as on the consoles, and that it's the other way around, that the game will have higher quality visuals on the PC than on the consoles. If the former is true, no way it will surpass Crysis; if the latter, it's, well, it's possible. It would have to look even better than what we saw in the pre-alpha build (which was close to Crysis, but not quite there).

Same deal with Project Offset, if the visuals for the PC end up being toned down to match that of the console versions, no way it will look better. If the PC retains all the technological prowess we've seen in videos of the game so far and then some, I think it stands a pretty good chance of outdoing Crysis.

Alan Wake definitely won't look as good. I've seen too many parts of the game already that looked rather subpar, and those aspects in Wake that are (well, were) a bit impressive still are beaten in Crysis.

Little Big Planet? Don't make me laugh.

To be honest, my prediction is that Far Cry 2 will not be as beautiful whether it looks better on the PC than on the consoles or not, and Project offset will be just a touch behind Crysis. The only future game we currently know about I'm certain will look better is Crysis 2 (if Crytek is smart, that is, and doesn't lower the quality of the PC version's visuals to be in line with the consoles).

JP_Russell

The only game this year that is gonna match crysis in graphics is Crysis Warhead ( there is no crysis 2 ) . As for far cry is gonna be a bit lower than crysis in graphics ( fae cry 2 is using dunia engine which is not as impressive as cryengine although is using some elements from cry-engine). Project offset will be pc exclucive since intel bought offset software so graphics wise it wont be toned down and is probably the game that will look almost as impressive as Crysis ( although probably it wont suprass Crysis). Finally dont forget project origin at least the pc vesrion will look amazing since is made by the same company that made fear which was what Crysis is now graphics wise. Probably in 2009 Games that look as good as crysis are gonna come out

Compared to Crysis, Far Cry 2 looks like **** Now in reality, Far Cry 2 actually looks REALLY good, but the development team had to think about how its a multi-platform title and was then forced to tone the graphics down so consoles can handle it at a certain level. I would say at maxxed out graphics, it looks as good as Crysis on Medium or maybe a little high.

"We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year,"

I thought they were dissapointed and going multi-platform?

Lol.. Crysis will be beaten in this year only... by Crysis Warhead by Crytek again.

Is Far Cry 2 looking better than Crysis ? Hahaha.. No, No, No.

Alan Wake seems to be a great looking action adventuregame, but no way as good as Crysis. It looks like it'll be having a big open world. So it's not comparable.

Im surprised that none of you talked about Killzone2 in this thread, It's the best the PS3 has sh0wn till now... & even that doesn't match up with Crysis's overall amazing quality.

Is Stalker Clear Sky looking better than Crysis ? are you kidding ? Stalker CS's running on an old dated engine which has been updated & optimized since the release of S:SOC. I watched their tech demos & Clear sky will be having some great features like water & rain ffects, rain droplets & water running down slopes, much improved lightning, better shadows etc. That's just to make the world of Stalker more atmospheric & immersive. It sure is looking impressive, but i wouldn't really care about graphics in a game like Stalker as it doesn't really affect the gameplay. The first game was so damn good & really looked great. I'd still buy Stalker this year even tho if it looked exact the same. but it won't.. it'll look a lot better this year :) . & GSC added those eye candy only so that game doesn't lag too behind other games in visuals... like Crysis.. Their engine still doesn't support alot of features which engines already have. IMO, more than graphics... GSC should really try to remove all the bugs & glitches in Clear sky this time & improve physics. That's the biggest problem their technology has right now.... Also add a Blur effect too.... Please ? atleast on the ironsights when we zoom.

Here is a small example, Just look yourself.. do you think Clear sky, even Far Cry2 or any other game can produce such amazing looking realistic effects fire onscreen ? Here is a jaw dropping video of how good Crysis really is. :D

so you care about crysis, because the graphics impact gameplay in that game while it doesn't in stalker? :|

also, that car explosion thing doesn't impress me in terms of graphics at all - for one thing, it's not even in hd.

If you mean technically, it could very well be a few years before any games look significantly better than Crysis. Artistically, Crysis has long been surpassed.

I would much rather play a game that is aesthetically varied and interesting than one which accurately models the properties of skin and foliage. Even technically simple games such as Psychonauts, Morrowind, and Team Fortress 2 can look fantastic. Other games such as Bioshock are both technically and artistically impressive in my opinion.

I care about Crysis because with all things consisdered it's The greatest shooter ever made.. beats HL2. & not just because it has better Graphics. Graphics & physics do impact the gameplay in Crysis, Like if you're running in the lowest settings or without without shadows & good lighting effects, you'd experience problems in combat.. mostly when you're playing in higher difficulties. That's why i really care a lot about graphics in Crysis.. but you still requre a lot of horsepower to run Crysis at Medium settings successfully & experience lagfree game. Otherwise gameplay is always what impresses me the most in shooters, If Crysis didn't have such good gameplay.. i'd be the first one to talk **** about it. but thankfully it really amazed me in everything.& seriously... what a great looking game it is :D i ve always played in low-med settings & still love more than anyother game.

The thing about Stalker is that it really was great experience for with lots of really annoying bugs. Those are what made the game difficult at times. Not the graphics settings you run it on. you can play it in med-high with a single 8600gt which i had. but even if you're running Stalker in low settings.. you wouldn't experience a whole lot of difference in it's gameplay & difficulty. for me before improving the graphics... GSC should try & remove fix the damn bugs & glitches their previous game had. Their Game engine also requires a lot of optimization. I wouldn't care too much if clear sky's is gonna look a whole lot better on my pc than previous (if it does, it sure would be very nice :))... that don't matter more than the number of bugs & glitches which really piss me off.

idk where to find HD videos of Crysis now :( Stage6 has shutdown now.. what other sites host HD videos of Crysis ? no idea. Even tho that explosion video was vey low res.. it seriously looks freakin amazing. By watching it you can obviously get some idea of how good explosions Crysis can look.go to youtube.com & search for the term "Crysis". Many ingame videos available.

HA.....FarCry2 has already done that.Kuyt19

Does Far Cry 2 graphic wise, beat Crysis when its on the PS3 and PC? I know Crysis devs are scaling down the graphics for the PS3 so it could actually run it at a good FPS.

I want to add that Crytek actually scaled down the settings in the maps for Crysis. Have a look around the internet to see some videos of Crysis looking even better.

Think of the DirectX10 jungle fight video, that's what the engine can do, but they scaled it to run on machines.

The only game this year that is gonna match crysis in graphics is Crysis Warhead ( there is no crysis 2 )

adamosmaki

I agree about Warhead now that it's been announced, it will of course have added effects from the engine. But there is a Crysis 2 (probably not by name, but), as Crysis is going to be a trilogy. Warhead is more than likely just a standalone expansion pack, not the sequel to the first game. The second game in the series is yet to be announced, I believe.
