you can thank 1080p for that.
The price probably wont fall for a couple of years. Dell and what not will continue to sell them at their current price range because they can, and because there isnt really a market for them currently.
I personally want to see a 2560x1440 monitor in the 22inch size range at a half decent price.

This. They probably make a small batch of them, price them at a high price, just for the elites. :P I want to see a reasonably priced 30" monitor. So far, no one has come up with a line that has a friendly price.
I'm still waiting till this thing drops in price:

I know it's not going to happen. If anything, the price probably went up. :P It's hard to resist when the only CON is the expensive price tag. Atm, I cannot justify getting rid of my 26" Asus Monitor even though the Dell 30" IPS is really tempting.
It is a difficult one, but i just think the extra pixels interms of video and gaming dont really show must diffrence compared to 1080p at the moment. Sure itll look crisper but you have to be like 2 inches away from the screen to really notice.
Im using a 32" 1080p tv at the moment as a monitor and in all honesty movies look the same at 1080p or 720p. Games look better at 1080p but if I move my chair back or use a controller while lying down, it looks the same.
So to notice the difference on even smaller screen and double the pixel count, would require me to sit so damn close to the screen that it doesnt make sense.
But of course using the monitor for computing such as poto editing would much better at 1600p.

That's around $2,100 USD. That's INSANE! Did I get that right? Wow. I feel bad for you guys. :( I've always been curious as to how the double amount of resolution will look at my desktop, and the extra 4 inches (compared to my 26", although it doesn't sound like much) will only improve gaming immersion.Because 2560x1600 is literally double the amount of pixels of 1920x1080p...
and 30" is a pretty big size.

Yikes!Prices will go down when 1080p becomes outdated/old. Those 30" monitors boast some really good PQ and high resolution which is a must for graphic designers and enthusiasts.
umm....there are 22in monitors with that resolution and higher.....and they don't cost anywhere near $1400. There called CRT monitors, getem while there hot.

U2711 for 746.90, and U3011 for 1153.90 here in Canada.
It's nice that us Canadians get the better end of the stick sometimes :D
Due to 1080p TVs it'll take a long time, the dimensions argument no longer stands so the only reason for 30" monitors to become popular is for higher res. I think it may take an advance in manufacturing techniques or panel technology to cause the price drop rather than a gradual market expansion.markop2003I've never played my PC games on my plasma hdtv. Is it simple as connecting an HDMI cable from the back of the graphics card to the plasma hdtv?

Yep. Thats it. Mine had a certain problem where the TV was set at "16:9" which is correct for 1080p but it still had the image all out of place. The "Just Scan" option fixed it and made it look normal though. Just letting you know incase you ever have that problem.

Yes its that simple and its what I do with my 46" lcd, the hdmi from your graphics card prolly wont output sound however. But I'm a little outdated on plasma technology, do you still have to worry about burn in?

It usually goes away after I turn off my TV for a few minutes or when watching something with a lot of motion/action on the screen.

Gotta love HDMI :P Plug my PC into the amp and it audio to the speakers and video to the plasma.:) I connect my PC to our plasma (50" 1080p) sometimes. It's only really good if you're sitting on the couch with a gamepad, though. I don't know how people use big TVs as their main computer monitor, they're too big.
