When you DON'T need a GPU

Seeing as most of the posts here argue about the merits of rather expensive GPU's that may confuse buyers I though to post his thread as to when you don't need a GPU - which will include any PC that doesn't play games or does heavy editing. The onboard GPU is more than enough for anything not related to those tasks. Just redressing the balance.

The only time you don't need a GPU is if you don't want to see any images on your monitor.

Now for as the times you don't need a discrete graphics card:

When you use your computer for an e-mail/facebook/internet browsing terminal.

However this is a gaming website and everyone here pretty much needs one.

Most people who come to this forum are probably in need of decent dedicated graphics processing. What you stated is pretty obvious. The funny thing is that at some point a person probably will want some better than IGP graphics processing because they want to dabble into some light gaming or video editing. They find out they are out of luck in terms getting something working properly and forget the idea all together, looking further down on PCs.

Have any of you built a HTPC capable of 1080p video with an onboard gpu? I'd like to build a cheap, small one, but reviews of the on-board GPUs that I've read have been sketchy at best.guynamedbilly
