Usually- I just think of a game where you can do nearly ANYTHING in it.  Interact with anything- make it a world that parallels our own, but you could like, do nearly anything without consequence to your actions.  It's a good thought though- I wish that Gamespot would ask this question, like- more of a gamer-informed community blog that developers could check out and reference more often.

seems pretty accurate. Problem is, the developers would probably spend so much money on this they would want to market it to a wider range of buyers and make it T-rated, therefore destroying the reality. Even the GTA games had limited realism - I want to be able to go into every single room of every single building, even if there's simply a desk. I want to be able to sneak into the army base and jack an F-15, fly to Cape Canaveral, jack a space shuttle, and fly to the space station. I want to walk down the street and be able to go into shops and buy crap like CDs and then put them in car stereos when I jack them. And yes, I want to go into strip clubs (real strip clubs, where the dancers are naked). When they make this, gaming will die - it will be the best game of all time.

Something that there is absolutely no realism. Like Escher type maps. Something really out there and screws up your senses - maybe cross adventure/FPS/RPG.

A perfect game, I would imagine an FPS game with excellent graphics and solid story. Of course, I like Doom 3 and Quake 3, so I can be contradictory, but yeah, that's what comes to my mind first.

me and my friend came up with a halo game, u have the mother ships where you choose who u want to be at the start, marine sparten pilot, etc... then u do various things on the ship (its online so u all work together) improve the ship etc, on the other side there is the covenant who u can also be and choose between the different characters again. the flood would be computer controlled and be on various planets, there are several mother ships and you can get invaded by your enemies ships. there also several planets to invade which have other things to do on too. we thought this would be our perfect game.

An sci-fi themed MMORPG, with loads of options and combo's, real time fighting action in craft and on plannets, with realy good financial management elements. Then put in a weapons/armor/item system like in diablo 2 (without the uniques). And a big load of characters with all kinda abileties but ballanced just about right. An "unending" star system like the one in frontier 2. The abilety to construct bases and micro manage a planet. Great story lines and quests. I don't care mutch about the graphics but photoreal would be fun :P.

Gameplay must be team based too, having a big carrier ship you bought with all your friends and own money and have someone command it (more can arm the different cannons to attack or defend stuff). Have it flying to astroid belts to mine and load stuff in, meanwhile have defenders to defend raider for killing your mining ships. Many jobs and professions can be learned/trained but you'l need to specialize so you standing strong as a team.

A crossover with WoW, eve online, frontier and diablo would be just great.... i'm drueling already :P

The Elder Scrolls like game, but with a good working radiant AI, more quests (with different endings goddamn it), a huge world. Great story line, great side quests (some that affect the world), dynamic enviroment (trees growing, dying etc). Gameplay should be deep, not a button masher, but something that requires skill (e.g a very advanced version of Dark Messiah). Magic should be really deep, you should be able to mix and mash as you like, and make UNIQUE spells, as for blacksmithing. A physics engine that's realistic, so if you create a something that looks like a broadsword, the physics should take it all in, the shape, the weight, how sharp it is, where you can parry, mobility etc, to finally be put into your hands and you can see for yourself if it's good or no. Archery should not be so damn linear, Dark Messiah was clunky, Oblivion is just meh, World of Warcraft, well target thingie just doesn't do it. NPCs, as I mentioned, should be alive, each unique, each and every NPC shouldnt say "Nice weather today", "Have you heard about blabla", IT SHOULD BE VARIED. Destructable enviroment, also connected to the physics engine. E.g you won't be able to slash a house of iron, but with the right strength and a ..powerful axe any door should go down. The map should also have variety, open space camps you can loot, dungeons to explore, graveyards to rob, underwater cities... not just three different dungeons and 9123293+23821+32813+2874182+ oblivion gates -.- Kinda badly structured..but yeh

well, to start off, the game world would have to be huge. As has already been said, every building would be explorable, and there would be all kinds of places to explore outside of cities. Think Morrowind, but bigger, and with more terrain variation. You would also be able to do literally whatever you want, right down to becoming the ruler of a country and leading it to battle against another. It would combine just about all different types of gameplay, and could be set in just about any setting. Take a sci-fi, futuristic setting for example:

-Fully explorable planets, with all kinds of hidden things that you could concievably never find. (First Person shooter/slasher/brawler/whatever)
-wide open space exploration, a la Freelancer
-space combat
-varying terrain on planets (Desert planets, forest planets, volcanic, grassland, etc.)
-ability to do whatever you want (space pirate, mercenary, soldier, trader, leader of a guild, ruler of a planet, etc.)
-possibility of new planets being discovered at any point (this could be acheived through downloadable content)

That would be the ultimate game.

And tell me, why exactly do you want a mega-city with every door openable? There are thousands of doors even in a small city. What makes you think that opening doors and seeing regular families inside over and over again will somehow add to the gameplay? Even if it was bossible to create such a setting, Im sure you'd get lost in a second in desparate search of what doing next. If you want a realistic game like that, just go out of your house (or your parents' basement - just kidding), walk the street and speak to people, pick up branches, soda cans and other stuff, open doors and such. Will you enjoy it? I doubt. A game requires a goal. And it needs to help you in achieving the goal. Asking a random NPC "how many times a week you have sex with your wife?" will not move the story forward. Opening random doors and finding random crap will offer little to no fun. Of course, the game shouldn't be completely linear (especially if it's an RPG) but I dont think that the fun to be had from a game is proportional to it's non-linearity. Some explorable areas (that provide exploration rewards) that are not mainly connected to the main quest are fun, but overall, i think that any game should be more linear than not, so that you will never lose the the main goal from your sight.

A MMO Game where you can play FPS, RPG, Fly Flight Sims, Build Cities, Fight Wars, Drive cars.

Imagine an online world where you could sim a space ship to Mars and then get out and Fight monsters like in Doom FPS style, then return home to fight the battle against NOD Command and conquer style. Then celebrate by driving your car around hawaii like that car game.

Just a huge massive world with tons and tons of different "mini games' Although each mini game would be as big as a normal game.

mmmmm goood

Well ill give u one idea for the doors, if the door is locked u can have the option to pick lock it, find the key, find someone to open teh door, look for another way in, or bust that baby down.  Though some will result in another action, as though u break the door down others will react as beat u down, call the cops, go in after u leave and steal, ect...  As for guns it would be nice to be able to add a scope or a sight, to decide if u want a silencer, or if u want to saw off the end of the gun and be able to hide it.  To be able to steal a car and unlike GTA series, it would be nice if the cops report and investigation and keep and eye out for the car you have stolen.  Theres a few ideas,

It would be a game so good I would never want to leave it, and there would be a life support system, so I could keep on playing it forever. I could do anything I want in the game, do anything, and me omni everything in the game. What I want is there and when I need something I get it. Never ending and something always new.

The perfect game is very much like reality. It's a game where you have the perception that what's happening is reality but without the dangerous things that kill you.

I always thought a more open Hitman style game would be good. Like where you get dropped in a large open city maybe with diffrent area having loading screens inbetween to make for lower required specs but have a note telling to pick up a phone in an area at a specific time, telling you where the info on the target is. You get the info and can just view the name a place of residence or be thorough and look through they entire family tree, job location daily route, so on and so forth and plot your kill. Go into his flat guns blazing or sneak in and poisen his food, snipe him while he watches TV or plant a bomb in his car. You have to acuire the equipment and maybe theres added bonus money for doing a particular thing to him, like maybe ring his mobile and say a line to him before blowing his car sky high or something.

I also always wanted to see a game where you are SWAT or armed police and you have a diffrent scenario to deal with through the levels and you have to do everything from sitting through the negotiations to planing your strike and finaly taking in the oponent.

I guess I aim to high :D

First of all, my perfect game has several stories/campaigns to choose from. Second, no one's forcing you to open every single door, and you wouldn't be ABLE to open every single door (just like IRL) without tools, keys, getting busted by cops, etc. , but it would nice to have the option. And having a goal has very little to do with the setting. There are plenty of ways to steer the gameplay without having 2 dozen doors in a hallway with only one that opens.

I imagine...

1.  A rich, detailed story written by a leading author of whatever genre the game will be set in (Military, Sci-Fi, historical, etc.)

2.  An extremely well optimized game engine with high-rez textures and adequate lighting and shadows (basically just gimme the Source engine)

3.  Open ended gameplay with linear story missions, but side missions that actually matter.  Something like Independence War 2; if you wanted to progress in the story, you needed to go do some space piracy so you could trade items for better weapons so you could deal with increasingly difficult bad guys.

4.  The ability to play the game how you want to, not play the game the way the game wants you to.  Games that have mastered this aspect of gameplay include Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Oblivion, Fallout 2, and others.

What I really want is a solid RPG set in Frank Herbert's Dune universe.  The imagination of that man is unparalleled in my opinion, and (outside of the RTS Dune 2) there hasnt been a truly solid game built based on the books, and there is thousand upon thousand of pages of material to use.

The story would be written by Frank's son, Brian Herbert, who despite being an average writer, is well-versed in Dune lore and writes entertaining books.  I would like it to be set in the time period of the House books, before the Atreides officially moved to Arrakis.  This leaves a little bit of breathing room for story development.

I think the various classes and factions would be incredibly amazing.  You could be a number of characters and classes, as some examples:
-Atreides Swordfighter
-Atreides Spy
-Harkonnen Soldier: a tank
-Harkonnen Assassin: stealth-based character
-Bene Geserit Reverend Mother: the "magic" user
-Bene Geserit Acolyte: a mix between a melee karate-using fighter and a "magic" using Rev Mother
-Ixian Engineer: makes weapons and robots (no thinking robots, of course)
-Ixian Scientist: maybe he mixes chemicals and stuff, a type of "magic" user
-Sardauker Warrior: the tank
-Sardauker Officer: boosts morale of party members, utility-type skills
-Fremen Fedeykin: the "barbarian" **** light armor and reckless, but strong attacks
-Fremen Waterthief: a stealth character, can rob men of their "water" and heal himself, hide in sand, etc.
-Suk Doctor: the healer
-and the list goes on...

In terms of gameplay, I would like to see a camera perspective set between a KOTOR view and Neverwinter Nights isometric view.  Perhaps keep the zoom limited, but make it so that you can zoom out enough to see the range of your ranged weapons.  This game would be suitable either as a singleplayer with free multiplayer, or perhaps even an MMO.

Basically, it would be your generic RPG formula, but set in the Dune universe.  I would like to see some new things added, more specifically a "cinematic" camera (after you que your attacks, the camera could zoom around and whatnot), but I think the developers would be better at that than myself.

Just imagine being an Atreides Swordmaster exploring the caverns of Ix and coming across an ancient killer machine left over and intact from the Butlerian Jihad 10000 years prior, or being a Harkonnen Assassin and managing to infiltrate a Fremen camp to assassinate their leader, or working for the emporer as a Sardauker officer and leading your men into battle as you raid a rebellious planet.
