I know that many people suggest getting an 8800gt and I've finally decided what one to get but upon further reasearch I've found that there are 4 of them. At least 4 versions that EVGA offers:

8800gt; 600mhz clock; 1800mhz memory; $269.99

8800gt Superclocked; 650mhz clock; 1900mhz memory; $279.99

8800gt KO; 675mhz clock; 1950mhz memory; $289.99

8800gt SSC, 700mhz clock; 2000mhz memory; $299.99

Apparently the difference in performance in price and speed for each one is obvious but I want to know which one would be the best bang for the buck. I'm also aware that other websites sell them for $20-$50 cheaper then what they are listed here. And I also noticed that the SSC version is only $60 less than the GTS. So what would be the best option?

Weither or not the extra 100mhz justifies the the $30 increase is entirely subjective. Personally, I'd opt for the 600mhz one and OC myself and up the fan speed myself too.

Buying the standard edition, you should easily be able to reach the KO speeds, probably the SSC as well if you overclock manually. Plus newegg has the BFG OC GTS for $300 after MIR, that would destroy the SSC after overclocking that manually, and still faster if left alone.

I've bought one pre-oc card, and was disappointing as it barely clocked higher manually. Both my last two cards bought at stock speeds, surpassed any pre-oc edition, well except for one but it was ridiculously priced and you could get a better card for the price, much like the SSC GT vs the standard GTS.

Just wondering...to OC my card even more, do I use nTune? Increasing the fan speed, I've never used that before...but I'd like to know if someone could be really nice and have the time and patients to explain to me how I can get my card up to and OC of about 675MHz :) It's a 650 currently, it came factory OC'd, but I'd like to push it that little bit further. Cheers.

So just like with processors, the best choice is to buy the lower end and overclock to get the higher end specs.

Dont do it unless you want to get anew card. Rivatuner is the best.

Yead it could be but sometimes the pre-oced edition has abetter cooling or design but not in this case now.
Anyway, ive seen some people who prefer to pay this 25~30$ to get apre overclocked one so they dont have to go through days of testing and Ocing.
