okay right now i have a 22 inch samsung that i really like. but i would like it to be a little bigger. there is a new gateway at circuit citys website that is a 24 inch monitor. the only thing differnt is the response time and contrast ratio. samsung has 2ms and 3000:1. where the gateway has 3ms and 1000:1. viewing angles are the same. i cant seem to get the link working but the samsung model is 226bw. and the gateway is fhd2400. should i get the 24 inch ands put the 22 inch on ebay??? also i have a 8800 gtx 4 gigs q6600. and also one more question what does 1080 by 1650 look on a 24 inch monitor??? thanks!

Is 2" really going to make that much difference to you? How much is the gateway monitor?

And your samsung has 3,000:1 Dynamic (aka, bs). It's a 700:1 static contrast ratio.

It looks like the Gateway is $550, atleast on their website.

So take what you think you can get for the samsung on ebay, $200(?), and deduct that from the price of the gateway.

Is 2" of screen size worth $350 to you?

Upgrading from a 22" to a 24" doesn't make sense and a waste of money.

But if you insist on doing so, I suggest going for a better 24 incher instead.

Scale down your monitor's current res(I assume 16x10) to 14x9. Thats an idea of how much lost of pixels you'll get and how much blur will come in. This all depends on the monitor's scaler however.

Why don't you just pick up a projector and have a 7 foot screen :)

Sure you lose resolution, a 720p projector will set you back 800ish but who cares when the screen is so big :) that's what anti-aliasing is for.

If resolution is what you're after then you might as well stick to the 22 inch because you won't see any benefit from the extra 2 inches.

This article on wikipedia has a screen shot that shows you the relation of different resolutions to each other. Quite easy to see just how much more you are getting with different resolutions and aspect ratios.

Have fun
