It does not matter if RT is officially supported with next update of Win 10 within DX12. The Ratracing update for DX12 is meant to provide a standardized way for developers to implement ray tracing in a compatible gpu in a much easier manner within DX12.... With Nvidia backing these select few devs to implement RT..... Ray tracing is not really an issue since DX12 allows devs to code the hardware and call on the drivers. Even with optimization will still not allow these series gpu to perform to the levels of settings, resolutions and frame rates people want with each tier of gpu with RT enabled. The vast majority of the games will be a hybrid (one to a few selective effect/s) or nothing, until Raytracing becomes a standard across the hardware scene from consoles to the rest of the pc user base.

@horgen: hope not a lot of work with RGB, the last thing gamers need given the price of these things is trouble setting up their cards with their custom blocks. intel 9 series will be out soon cant wait for reviews that's gonna be another shocking price attack

When does a company with monopoly care about what the customers want?

almost never

it does matter. some devs did not get the cards in some cases until two weeks before nvidia's presentation, dice themselves pointed out to some journalists that they were still experimenting to see what they could accomplish with the card. you cant optimize for hardware you don't have. MS cant provide hotfixes for hardware they don't have feedback on.

I understand that the games are gonna be hybrid, to each his own if what some gamers want are rasterized games don't buy the cards skip this iteration, but for those of us who want graphics to take that next step wait for sale before buying these cards if you can't afford it. I understand the points that are being made im not trying to belittle them or minimize the criticism, but we must be fair in our analysis, are the cards expensive? yes. is price/perf ratio insanity given the performance in rasterized games vs previous generation? yes. is it worth upgrading from a 1080Ti to a 2080 just to play rasterized games? no. if you want some kind of ray tracing in yo life should you get these cards? hell yeah

From what I know, RTX's ray tracing is built on Vulcan, so why is it locked on Win10 in the first place? Not like Vulcan is not on Win7.

I'll stick with my 1080 for this year as no major graphically enhanced games that I want to play comes out this X-mas...

Gonna wait till next year.

Exactly. And with the increased die size, I am not surprised nVidia raised the prices as much as they did. This chips are huge compared to before.

I'm think I'm cool with this 2080. It's smaller, quiter and uses less power than the 1080Ti Strix I was running before. And so far it looks to run FH4 pretty well.

@horgen: did you get a chance to custom liquid cool the card yet or are you still running leak tests? how would asses the difficulty in disassembling the card if you have? how is the performance of the card did you get a chance to try any demanding games? was it in line with reviews?

@goldenelementxl: congrats there are no games yet but windows 10 version 1809 or October update is available now with ray tracing support and 411.70 drivers are out

Still waiting on the block for the card.

I've learned a little over the years with water cooling, so I keep some spare parts. The rings (gaskets?) I've bought extra there. Found some that were a little thicker. Holds better than the ones EK provide. The angle fittings that you can turn around aren't that reliable in my experience. Went for plastic angle hard tubing instead with clamps. doesn't look as nice, but they sure as hell doesn't leak. Due to this, I've gained (perhaps missplaced) confidence in that if I don't experience a leak during filling the loop or the first 10 minutes after I am done filling it, it won't be a leak at all.

I haven't tried anything more demanding than Vampyr which it runs fine. At least 60 fps stable, the only setting I changed was the TSAA. Lowered it a little, but probably unnecessary. Tested Fallout 4 a little at ULTRA, 2560*1440, without V-sync and got FPS well over 100 for the little I tested. Fallout 4 didn't recognize the card and put everything on low to begin with.

Folding at home it gives more points per day than 2x GTX980Ti running at 1500MHz.

So I think the performance I've got so far is inline with reviews, if you adjust for running a 6600K at 4.7GHz and RAM at 3066MHz (with loose timings). If I switch my CPU with a 8700 or the new 9900K fom Intel I will get better performance.

@horgen: cool. 416.16 drivers are now available for the 1809 windows release. not sure if this will help add a few more fps to benches. but good for ray tracing
