Are you trying to get yourself killed in the PC community here!?

~edit~

Back to the main topic...yes and no at the same time. I heard this new mechgame is also going to be on consoles..so that means either the game is going to be dumbed down by controls or AI perhaps even both, but those are just my assumptions. I atleast hope for a real indepth customization of your mech just like in Mechwarrior 2.

I used to play Mechwarrior 2 with a 15" sub on either side of my computer chair. It was in my mom's trailer, so it felt like the earth was shaking when I took each step in the mech.. In other words.. yeah, I'm pretty psyched about this game... :D

Hell yes. Cannot wait. Its a series I have pretty much grown up with; MechWarrior 2 was one the first PC games I really got into - even at a young age, still have my original copy too. I just hope the developers can pull it off - its the main thing i am slightly cynical about.

I actually did not like Mech Warrior.. I felt Heavy Gear 1 and 2 was vastly superior to Mech Warrior in just about every way imo.

You're obviously not a big PC gamer then. Also, to the INSANE person that's never even heard of Mech Warrior, get the free version of Mech Warrior 4 when it comes out. They're giving it away for free to promote the new one. Excited.

No, you are far from the only one. I'm playing plenty of MechWarrior 3 in anticipation.

OH GOD NO. We do NOT talk about MechInsult in here. That was just plain dumbed-down, way moreso than MechWarrior 4 was.

Never played Heavy Gear 1 (though I know it's derived from the MechWarrior 2 engine), but I do have Heavy Gear II and have dabbled with it. The problem is, on my flagship desktop in its 8800 GT glory, Heavy Gear II's rendering is all botched. The culling's all wrong; you can see polygons that should be obscured. I once tested an HD 4850, and didn't even get that far-the game just crashed! Show me a solution, and I'll play it more. A LOT more.

I've never played any of the Mechwarrior games...I believe the developers said that they planned on releasing Mechwarrior 2 and its expansions for free on its site soon though, so I'll get around to it then. Not to mention, that trailer for the new game was AMAZING.

Mechwarroir 4, and yes it will be great. Releasing them for free should revitalise the onlie again as well.

I played Heavy Gear 2 and while it was very good, It didn't feel like a true mech simulation. It's along the lines of Armored Core, which I still enjoy. Heavy Gear / Armored Core = Arcade. Mechwarrior = Simulation. The renderings for Heavy Gear 2 (cutscenes) were top-notch. I enjoyed watching those more than actually playing the game.

It's a Vista issue (maybe XP too, I can't remember). I don't think there is a solution. I've been looking for one for awhile so that I could play Heavy Gear 2 again.

There is a patch out there on the internet getting the Titanium versions of MW2 to work on XP with a Glide wrapper, don't know if it works in Vista though. Anyway, definitely looking for a more MW2 like game. Landing on the planet and hearing the computer tell you the planet name, temperature, local time, telling you the status of your mech and then finally saying "All systems nominal", oh that was good stuff. Also a game that's played from the cockpit with detailed cockpits, none of this MW4 third person view crap. Even if you switched to cockpit view in MW4 it was the same layout for every mech, and it hardly felt like you were in a large machine. It was like you were in a tall car, it was missing that giant step effect.

What makes you think that? Simplified damage model? Style of movement? Strange loadout system? (Heavy Gear II worked on a "threat level" model, unlike MechWarrior's combination of criticals and weight. I always found that weird.) In any case, the most sim-like mech "simulator", in my eyes, is actually Steel Battalion on the Xbox, especially the Line of Contact multiplayer expansion of sorts. The huge custom controller is only part of it-it's mostly the way the VTs move, as well as each VT generation having a unique cockpit with gauges strewn everywhere as opposed to a mere superimposed HUD feeling. The damage model is pretty simplified, though, but Steel Battalion is more about NOT getting hit due to how most projectiles are slow and easily dodged with a press of the slidestep pedal, not to mention that any VT you lock on to triggers a built-in aimbot that even has lead compensation on 2nd-and-3rd-generation VTs. I'd almost kill for a refined sequel on the PC, whose audience would be more likely to appreciate that sort of game.

Well, damn, guess I'm not alone here. The fact that it reacted differently between NVIDIA and ATI cards, though, seems to suggest that it's a graphics driver + new GPU problem more than Vista. (In a different case, Crimson Skies elicits the same corrupt text problem on XP and Vista alike with a modern GPU and modern drivers, both NVIDIA and ATI. I'm beginning to think that they just don't care anymore about maintaining full compatibility with DX7 and prior.) I'm looking into virtualization to solve this problem, but lack a spare XP license. (I have Windows Server 2003 R2, but VirtualBox won't let me use its new 3D acceleration features with it...) I could play it on my TC1100 just fine, but the fact that its keyboard isn't full-size and with a numpad hinders things-especially since Heavy Gear II uses the unconventional means of binding movement to the numpad rather than my preferred ESDF. I'm thinking of how I'd have to remap the controls to work within the constraints of the condensed keyboard.

I was never a fan of playing it, but I loved watching it be played on the show 'Arena' on G4TV. Too bad I haven't watched that channel in years since it's always Cheaters, Cops, Ninja Warrior and anything else not pertaining to video games.

I think it was because it felt more like an oversized exosuit than a mech. It was so long ago that I can't remember. It just felt like an FPS more than a simulation. You ran around shooting your gun and throwing grenades. You wouldn't even notice you were piloting a mech unless you came across settlement or some people running around on the ground.

Heavy Gears 1/2 were awesome games as well that were quite different from Mechwarrior. I enjoyed playing them online. I can't say I prefer one over the other coz they are not that comparable. Safe to say, I like them both equally. But I definitely prefer Mechwarrior's story and lore alot more tho.

youtube now! it involves big walking tanks knocking the living crap out of each other....with big lasers and guns....and rockets oh my!. mechwarrior was very kewl. im cautiously optimistic. if they make it like the arcadey xbox games then no...i wont be interested (though they dont seem to be going that way.....which is great). i want it to be like the older mechwarrior games.

I'm pretty stoked about it, especially since I'll have the rig to play it once it comes out. Mechwarrior 4 was one of my favorite games to play...in fact, I'd still be playing it if it weren't for the fact that the game isn't supported by Vista.

You sure about that, I played it on Vista x64 and have another friend who played it on Vista 32-bit.

Definitely excited for the game! Great news that they didn't let a good series die out.
