Why so sad ? I know that's a few generations old but that 4400+ is still a really good duel core chip. That and the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (2.4Ghz) were the absolute top of the line cpu's for the 939 socket MB's before AMD moved to the AM2.
I just upgraded (if you want to call it that...lol) an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ to a used Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (2.2GHz) on a Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939 Nvidia nForce3 Ultra. A really kick-a** board for it's time and running in it... 2GB DDR PC-3200, Radeon 9800Pro 256MB, WD 20 and 80GB HHD (switching it out to an extra WD 150GB Raptor I have laying around)....I upgraded the PSU (Corsair 400w) and added a CM Hyper N520 cpu heat-sink all in a mid-tower aluminum case (looks like a BMW grill on the front...8)) that I originally bought 6 years ago when built. All running on Windows XP Pro 32bit.
I used this as my 2nd PC, but my wife uses it now, works great and can still play many games very well....When I went looking for a better cpu for that 939 socket, I was shocked to find how much in demand the AMD Athlon 64 X2 cpu' for 939 sockets were. There are tons of people looking to maintain those older 939 boards and for me to upgrade it with the CPU, PS and heat-sink was around 130 usd......
So don't be so sad...we may not be able to run with the big-boys but there is still some life in these systems of ours ......:)
