Picked this up over the weekend (Wasteland 2) and oh man it's awesome.

Is it easy to go into? I'm wondering that because I'm looking to get into it in the future.

yea I found it pretty easy to get into, it has a nice difficulty curve over the first 10 hours and it does a good job of letting you know where to go without being overly obvious about it. I haven't had to use a walkthrough in the 15 hours i've played, by that point in Divinity I'd had to use a walkthrough half a dozen times

Never played the original first time around..Yes im old enough lol..How ever im so into this game atm..Ammo is very scarce to buy in the early rounds..You run out very quickly..Im enjoying every min of the game though..Im like lvl 8 atm..First few lvls are very tough..Make sure u have a doc on your team..As far as wasteland 2 goes its a very fun game..

As far as pillars of eternity goes..Im in beta game is looking good so far..Can it use a few tweaks yes it can..Combat is a bit fast but over all the game looks sexy an feels like a old school rpg..Hopefully bye release of this game it will work out all the kinks..So ya look forward to pillars of eternity..As a person above said falsely dont hold your breath.Im saying its going to be a really great old school style rpg..

Have you messed with the slow option ? Been as little worried about Pillars from stuff I've been reading on the dex.

(I backed a lot of these old school RPG kickstarters, but don't play betas)

I like it better than Divinity, although that's partially due to personal preference since I'll take a sci-fi game over a fantasy game any day.

Yep. Some of the albeit warranted and excited chatter today to me sounds like, 'Pillars of Meh, Tides of Meh, Divinity Meh.' But I do dabble in some fantasy settings here and there.

Let's just say that I'll probably play (CDPR's) Witcher 3 on sale down the road. CDPR's Cyberpunk 2077? That may be a day-one buy or dare I say pre-purchase, and those terms are kinda 4-letter words to me.

Blitzen Trapper wrote a song about it. Like to hear it? Here it go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5CMX56Pap8

Hey, now. That is a bit out of context. Notice I prefaced that with "albeit warranted...chatter" meaning that I can see why others are excited about these games.

I can only handle probably one fantasy game for every six or seven sci-fi games I play. It's just personal preference and not based on any deeply held principle.

But Tides is gonna be FAR from traditional fantasy.

Did you check out Shadowrun yet ? I heard the new Dragonfall: Directors Cut was a lot better than the original Shadowrun Returns campaign.

@bussinrounds: While I will dabble in some fantasy settings, games that mix fantasy and sci-fi like Final Fantasy and Shadowrun are non-starters for me. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just subconsciously can't buy into it. And just to further soften my previous "meh" statements, I will be surprised if I don't try Torment or one of those games. For a minute I was even thinking about getting Divinity INSTEAD of Wasteland 2. That was momentary insanity as I'm of the generation that started on Mad Max and then Terminator. I love me some dystopic post-war hellscapes.

Younger generations maybe understand just a little less that when the original Terminator came out, the U.S and U.SSR were literally pointing a sh*t-ton of nuclear missles at each other. It was talked about, and on the news constantly, and that movie "The Day After" or whatever was running on one of only 3 tv stations, and it really seemed like some of that far-fetched Terminator stuff could actually happen. Maybe I was an overly sensitive sixth grader, but I remember feeling profoundly depressed walking out of the Terminator theater. Not that it wasn't a good movie. It was real good and somehow drove home its entertainment value without CGI.

@behardy24: The gameplay and storyline are easy to get into but even those two things come after character creation. Character creations hits you point-blank with stats-management and numbers-crunching straight away. After years of games like Fallout New Vegas, EyE Divine Cybermancy, a little EvE Online, Dark Souls, Borderlandseses, and Xcom: Enemy... I now really enjoy micro-managing all that stuff.

You might still like this game if you don't like micromanaging armor-penetration, chance to hit, chance to score criticals, etcetera. You will probably just want to google some builds or more information before you start your characters. You can also just choose the pre-existing characters. They have really cool avatars to boot.

Think those who are saying meh are used to todays graphics ie witcher 3 an so on farcry 4..Gta 4 and 5..Its a old school game, so it wont be for every one..Its not meant to be a easy game..Kiddies today that play games want to come home an have there game catered to them..Its a thinking game more or less its hard at first..Than never gets easy..

That's good to hear. I'm glad that it's easy to get into and then eventually starts challenging you once you feel comfortable. I'm also happy to hear that I won't necessarily need a walkthrough for the most part as I'm not a big fan of using one.

@airshocker Two questions if anyone knows...please:

1.) What do these things on my character icon mean: "Square Eyes Don't Miss A Thing" and "Awareness +1" and "Can Be Removed with The Appropriate Item." I think it refers to the condition as Devil Eyes which adds another layer of confusion as isn't that the name of a pet goat in the game, too?

Basically it looks like two of my characters picked up a condition going into East End of the AG Center. It looks like this is a curable condition but if it gives me a Plus-One Boost to Awareness, why in the devil (pun intended) would I do anything about it? In the event there is a downside to it, what is the item that cures it? I have a higher level field medic with some lower level surgeon skills that might fix it.

2.) My other question is what is that green and red bar above a character's weapon window in the middle bottom of your screen? I have a bad feeling that is weapon condition. No? If it is weapon condition, is there a way to repair weapons? I have a guy who has mechanical repair. Would that help? Thank you.

Does that character also have the animal whisperer skill, and if so, did you pick up a goat companion?

@airshocker: I had to make the decision between buying Wasteland 2 or Divinity. I honestly went with Divinity based on visuals and a generally tendency in myself towards fantasy, but I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'll definitely put it on my to-buy list.

1) Your character gets an effect when they use animal whisperer on an animal. So that's what the Devil Eyes is.

2) It's your weapon's optimal range. When you target an enemy you can look at that and see where the enemy falls. Attacking the enemy while they're in the optimal range = greater chance of hitting.

@Renevent42: Thanks for getting back to me REvenent and Airshocker. I think I may be benefiting from a "Goat Glitch." Ever since Aberforth has died, two of my NON animal whisperer characters have "Devil Eyes" boost to awareness. I ain't complaining. That's my kind of glitch.

I've been playing since about the halfway point of early access. The combat is pretty brutal. I just got to Demonta and it's usually only a 60% chance that i'll win a fight. And when I do win, everyone is usually near unconscious lol (if not a few members unconscious). I'm not sure if I'm under leveled, just suck, or it's supposed to be this hard. I'm having a blast though.

Alright, cool. I'm glad that it's easy to get into. I'm now more motivated to buy and play it but that probably won't be for awhile.

I'm not the biggest fan of micro-managing most things, but especially skill points. I usually tend to side with tons of points in one skill and leaving the other ones untouched. So I just just make my characters overpowered in one area compare to balancing them out. But I'm glad to hear that pre-existing characters are available.

I just got to Demonta as well, the fights there are tougher than I've encountered previously but I'm still not having much trouble with them on normal. What difficulty are you playing on? Do you have any followers?

I have two snipers (one using 7.62 ammo the other the normal sniper ammo) and a heavy weapons dude with loads of equipment since I found lots of gear in the Canyon of Titan but didn't get into many fights there. Those three characters seem to be doing a ton of damage to the big slicer/dicer robots while my SMG/Shotgun guy and my Medic deal with the smaller robots.

I'm on normal as well. I don't have any followers right now (angela left right before the canyon). My party consists of an assault rifle(ak47) , blunt melee(baton), sniper(whatever the 7.62 one is), and SMG(uzi). Earlier in the game it was working well but the further I get the more difficult it becomes. What level is your party? I think most of my guys are level 11.

I'm not sure exactly but I think they might be slightly higher, around 12 I think. I do have two other followers though, The chick from a Cage in High-Pool (cant remember her name) who is a sniper and some crazy Blunt Weapons guy from the Nomad Rail Camp who wanted to join my party when we left after resolving the dispute.

I can see that area being a challenge with just four guys. I have similar tier weapons to you though.

@behardy24: If I'm giving bad advice perhaps someone will tell me or perhaps, Behardy24, get a 2nd opinion on what I'm saying. I am early on in the game but I am up to a six-man team. I don't know how long this entourage (kind of a douchey word) or this carte blanche (a really douchey word) will last. Perhaps I will pay the price for later if I lose some followers, but currently I lean toward focus on a few skills in each character. It just doesn't make sense at this stage to have two guys with perception or two guys with brute force.

After six years of gaming a few more recent events have gotten me over that hump to where I do enjoy numbers-crunching and pouring over statistics. I will say though, it's been my experience that RPGs tend to reward specialists over generalists. That's why every so often someone is all, "Is X and Y stackable derp?"

Having a blast, have over 120 hours logged in now (30 of that during alpha/beta), still very hooked on this game. Don't be scared to re-roll ya group, there is alot of different builds you can come up with. I found my best one so far has been a nice mix of everything...

I like how you make a decision in this game, you sort of don't think about what the consequences of that choice might be, then later on down the line you see some of what happened because of you're actions.

Besides few bugs and the graphics not being anything to write home about, game is fantastic and not much more I could honestly as for with a sequel to the first rpg I ever played.

Also pick up as many compannions as you can, they can be life savers. Also as I said above, DON'T BE SCARED TO EXPERIMENT OR START AGAIN. This game offers alot of options when it comes to what skills,etc.. you're characters have.

@airshocker:

Question here...please. Is there still an easily accessible underground shortcut to Nomad Rail Camp (or similar sounding map location)?

Early on, I thought in the (minor spoiler) cave with the giant toad and robot arm, I could've swore I saw a cave exit to to what was labeled "Nomad Rail Camp" or something similar. Now, I was gonna head there for a bit of investigative derp and don't see that shortcut in the cave anymore.

Am I remembering it wrong? Did it close up? Do I need to click like "outdoorsman" or some skill to see the exit? (Percention didn't work.) Am I in the wrong location?

I have the 4 protection rad suits now so I could take a the above-ground route if need be. It'd be nice to take advantage of my mental note on what I thought would be a crafty way there.

Nevermind. I just found this link explaining that once you (minor spoiler) complete AG CEnter request, then only through the radiation to get to Nomad Rail Camp: https://forums.inxile-entertainment.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5844

I really did check a lot of maps and search terms. That's kind of nice about this game is there isn't too much stuff posted on it yet plus by design WL2 encourages you to explore and experiment.

I thought I was okay on intelligence but looking at my guys I should have built more in. It will be a challenge but that's okay. Might you guys know though if there are going to be opportunities to get single ATTRIBUTE points added. (Not skill points but attribute....) You know? How like in Fallout 3 there was the bobbleheads? Perhaps every tenth level you get a Attribute Point or something? Thanks.

Eventually you'll be able to put attribute points in once you level up enough. I think I only got to add two or three, which is why I made all of my guys with high INT.

Well, if I can still get like 2 additional attribute points for at least 3 of my original characters by 60 percent into the story with one more attribution point by end story then I think I should be fine. I have two characters with 4 intelligence and two characters with 3 intelligence. I can get by on a team that has mostly around 7 intelligence I think. Anybody know if this scenario I describe here is likely to rollout as I am hoping?

I knew to use intelligence when buiilding them. I was thinking, however, that those would be just starting points and I will get more points later on. I figured start em out with 4 and build em up to like 7 by early end-game(?)

I did go back and reworked my characters a little bit once already. As much as I love this game I don't want to backtrack from just ahead of Nomads Rail CAmp. I've got enough time and clicks invested where that would hamper the enjoyment a bit for me currently.

Of late I think I am a somewhat experienced RPG character builder. Assuming I made a pretty smart and balanced team outside of being too stingey on intelligence, think I will be alright when the difficulty spike hits? I am not up for a hard re-roll just yet.

I might even post my stats later if it helps. Thanks.

Okay. Not to be an OCD crazy person but Imagonn post some stats here and please tell me whether if I'm level 8 with these stats, if the difficulty spike will hit me hard due to not enough upfront intelligence?

GUARDIANA Level 8 medic -- Coordination is 4, Luck is 2; Awareness is 9; Strength is 1; Speed is 6; Intelligence 4 and charisma two.

Her speed and awareness has worked out great for her. She can get to anyone with enough combat actions/attributes to heal within a round or two. I keep her equipped with a long-range sniper as she always gets the first attack and a couple of shotguns for when enemies start to bunch up against us. She is also a back-up surgeon in case NPC companion Rose drops.

JUNIOR, Level 8 critical-shot dealer -- Coordination is 4; Luck is 8; Awareness is 6; Strength is 3. Speed is 4. Intelligence is 3 and charisma is 2.

Someone once said that luck is one of two stats that he didn't find useful. Wrong! Combat without critical shots is long and boring. Junior's got a midnight special six-shooter with a under-barrell flashlight. He gets many Act. Pt. shots and has prolly around a 50 percent chance of it being critical or bleeder. He's got a blade attack (sickle as it gets good critical percentage) for when he runs out of bullets. He is so fun!

THE EDGELANDER -- Level 8 brawler. Coordination is 3; Luck is 2; Awareness is 7; Strength is 7; Speed is 4; Intelligence is 3; Charisma is 2.

He's tanky and agile with his high strength and light goat-hide armor.

JASON WILD, level 8 skills-specialist, leader and lite sniper. Coordination is 7, Luck is 3, Awareness is 6; Strength is 2; Speed is 3; INT is 4 and Charisma is 5.

Jason's stats are all over the place, but he is straight from my Fallout 3 and FAllout New Vegas playthroughs so I was inclined to make him a jack of all trades. His main attributes to get me through the fights though has been leadership to boost the team, and some sniping.

I'm more into concept characters over min-maxing so having a bunch of charisma 1 social nerds running around would hamper my enjoyment a bit. I also have Rose with her high computer science skill and Angela Deth who is pretty great but is stealing some of Edgelander's thunder a bit. Am I okay?

Meh. I just looked at this:

Intelligence12345678910
Action Points (base is 3)+0+0+1+1+1+1+1+1+2+2
Survival Points Per Level2223333445
Surgeon skill level cap55556669910

So now it looks like I can stop bothering everyone. I should have looked at this exact graph before rather than just looking up general advice. Oh, well. It looks like I will have to think very carefully where I put my skill points. That's okay. It will be a nice break from being Isaac Clarke and Batman where I am just reacting to stuff as quickly as I see it derp.

Not to gloat about a goat glitch but....

I am kind of benefiting from a strange-getting-stranger glitch that I hope never gets patched out. At one point our pet goat got killed in a (MINOR SPOILER) human-plant-pod explosion which also damaged two of my party members. The animal-whisperer lost his devil eyes perk as he should of. However, the two characters who took damage in the same attack that killed the goat RECEIVED goat eyes benefit seemingly permanently.

But it gets stranger. I made a bad decision or two which makes for one lucky goat. I went back to a previous save and re-did that area. The goat lived this time. The animal whisperer kept his devil eyes as he should. HOWEVER, the two characters benefiting from the previous glitch STILL have the awareness boost from devil eyes even when I went back to a different save file

But it gets EVEN stranger-er. Call me a knit-pick, perfectionist, enlightened or OCD, I did a hard re-set. Started a new game. Created the same characters to make tweaks to their attributes, skills, etcetera. Believe me, I thought about not doing it because I was still having fun and kind of liked the "goat glitch." I'm back at level one but retained the same character names. My two characters that got sprayed from goat guts in a previous game STILL have the devil eyes perk at level 1.

It's goat-y. It's glitch-y. I hate to be gloat-y but I got permanent awareness and that ain't b*tchy. (My rhyming skills need work.)

I think it has an awesome atmosphere, and the combat is a nice change from mainstream "streamlined" RPGs. I think the typewriter log especially gives a nice touch. However I don't feel pulled in as much as I'd like.

I hate that everything is so heavily chance based. It gives you a huge incentive to save and reload when basically anything is about to happen just for fear of getting a critical failure. Are you about to pick a lock? Quicksave. Crack a safe? Quicksave. Disarm a mine or an alarm? Quicksave. Open a chest? Quicksave, because the loots are random and you can reload in case you get something you don't care about. Same goes for stripping weapons for parts, or removing addons from weapons. Speaking of weapons, the skill scaling doesn't make any sense. The highest skill level you can start with is 4 and you still have a shitty chance to hit with. Worse, if you don't invest in intelligence you are going to be heavily outscaled very soon and levelling up barely has any effect, and you are given an extremely restricting number of skill points to begin. It feels terribly limitative.
