Forgive me, this is a tad old.

http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/06/15/ea-dead-space-2-pc-best-played-on-a-gamepad/

Translation: EA doesn't care about PC players, doesn't feel like fixing the issue, doesn't know how, or some kind of combination of the above. Then again, they might be figuring that the improved presicion of a mouse will make the game too easy. Here's an idea, EA: Manage the difficulty of the game through difficulty levels.

After buying DS1 and barely being able to play it, this "u mad? Play it on a gamepad" #%$@ is so freaking insulting. No sale.

What little interest I had in this game is now pretty much gone.

I don't see what the problem is here. As for the original title question, I'm not, I have no interest in either of the games.

I had no problem at all with a mouse and keyboard whatsoever... don't know what these people are talking about. Took me 5-10 minutes of a learning curve to get it down.

What was so hard about the mouse and keyboard set up? Hell if anything it made it easier. Sure if you turned Vsynch on it was a mess, but I never use that anyways. So what is the big deal here?

I think you can dissect comments any way you want to support your theory, but they did say, "EA does plan to improve things for PC players". That to me means that they are not completely ignoring PC players regardless of what they say further down the article.... Anyhow, mouse and keyboard were fine with DS even if there was a 5 min learning curve. Perhaps you didn't turn off V-sync?

There was never a momment where the words " bad controls " ever crossed my mind once. If anything I thought the UI and control were really cool actually. Thought it was one of the best games of the year and getting DS2 most deffinetly. I'll be glad if they leave the controls the way they were.

Computer and Video Games reports that the game's executive producerSteve Papoutsis states, "Out of the box, we're hopeful the PC version this time will respond a lot better and that people will be a lot more comfortable and happier with the controls. That is feedback we've heard and we're certainly trying to address it." He does add, however, "Not to sound snarky, but withDead Space, honestly, the way we're playing it is with a gamepad. Even if you're a PC guy - if you have one - stick [your pad] in your PC and play the game with that."

Either way PC controls would trivialize the gameplay too much.

Oh dear I don't have a joypad so I guess I will have to skip Deadspace 2 . It amazes me that devs just totally ignore the PC gamers preferred control system and expect us to get joypads. I wonder how well a game would sell on the consoles if they totally ignored the joypad and said you must use a control system that 99% of the time you never use.

Anyway this game was pretty low down on my "must buy" list, now it just dropped right off the list altogether. If they aren't going to take the time to entertain PC gamer preferences then I don't see why PC gamers should entertain the idea of buying their products.

"EA does plan to improve things for PC players" is vague. They don't specify how.

As for the mouse lag, disabling V-sync in ATI's driver menu does nothing. The game is locked into V-sync. Apparently forcing triple buffering reduces the problem, but there is no way to force it on D3D through ATI's driver options. I hear there is a way to do this through Rivatuner's d3doverrider, but running Rivatuner requires using an unsigned driver. They say there is a way to disable the drivers Windows forces through the F8 start up menu that then allows you to run the program, but I'm done; there's only a certain amount of hoops I'm willing to jump through for one game.

My "theory" is fact; the game has horrendous mouse lag. Disabling V-sync in ATI's driver menu does nothing. The game is locked into V-sync. Your so called fact is wrong. I never had any sort of lag when I played, unless it was too little to actually notice. Sounds like something o your end.

He's just saying that he feels more comfortable with a gamepad. He's also saying they're looking to improve upon the problematic implementation of M&KB in the first Dead Space.

Nothing too annoying or even remotely distressing about this neglectible news.

As for the mouselag problem in the first game - disabling Vsync within the game and enabling it through the Nvidia control panel solved the issue for me. There was still some minimal mouse acceleration but nothing particularly noticeable. The game is very playable that way and lots of fun. I don't know what it's like for ATI users but I believe the uproar would have been much bigger had the game been completely unplayable (as it is when capped to 30 FPS with the in-game Vsync option turned on) for all ATI users.

It's a known problem. There are threads all over the internet about the problem, and every review I've read mentions it. Maybe your case is the exception?

It boggles my mind that PC gamers will go spend hundreds of dollars on a graphics card to be able to play the latest games, and then b**** about spending $30 on a gamepad because "we shouldn't have to conform to their standards".

That's because PC gamers have the option to use a much superior control scheme that's more responsive and natural for this type of game. Developers should take advantage of what the M&KB setup provides instead of encouraging players to hook a gamepad into their PCs. They did say they're looking to improve over the problems of the first game so until something worse is announced I think the criticism and whining is moot, but I do understand why PC gamers wouldn't want to use a gamepad to play shooters.

Oh, I understand why too, and I agree that a keyboard and mouse are technically a superior control scheme. But if the game is being developed to be perfectly playable with a gamepad, then I think it's probably a safe bet that using a mouse and keyboard isn't really going to be all that advantageous anyway. It's like saying that we shouldn't have to use a joystick to play a flight simulator, even though the game is clearly developed to be played with a joystick. Quite frankly, I suspect that the reason most people don't want to use a gamepad has nothing to do with efficiency, and everything to do with overzealous "consolephobia".

I have Dead Space and I hate playing it with a controller.. I just don't like playing shooters with a controller when there's a better alternative on the PC.. I feel very slow and handicapped..I get an uncomfortable feeling that its holding me back..

Then your "suspicions" are incorrect, my refusal to entertain the use of a joypad has nothing to do with "consolephobia" and everything to do with the fact the joypad is the most retarded control contraption I have ever had the misfortune to use. It is one of the key reasons why I game on the PC. All the games I enjoy benefit from being mouse/keyboard controlled and there is no reason to suggest that Deadspace 2 wouldn't be fantastic with decent mouse and keyboard control.

Now I will agree that different control schemes fit different genres. If I wanted to play Flight Simulator X I would of course use a joystick, if I wanted to play Street Fighter 10,000 I would use a joypad. Now Deadspace 2 is a third person shooter, last time I checked "shooting" was a hell of a lot better with a mouse than a joypad. Let me put it this way, if Microsoft said "we are developing Flight Simulator 11 with the mouse and keyboard in mind" you would think that is the most retarded statement on the planet.

The mouse and Keyboard is the dominant control system on the PC, there is absolutely no reason why Deadspace 2 could not make use of this control system to it's fullest. Instead of catering for what PC gamers want we get subtle hints to buy a joypad. Hm shooting with a joypad no thanks that sounds about as much fun as trying to fly a jumbo jet with a mouse in Flight Simulator X.

I still need to finish the first one! I didn't have much issues with the control - it was awkward at first, but I got used to it. When/if I finish the first one, I might consider Deadspace 2.

I have Dead Space and I hate playing it with a controller.. I just don't like playing shooters with a controller when there's a better alternative on the PC.. I feel very slow and handicapped..I get an uncomfortable feeling that its holding me back..

Understandable, but my point was that, in actuality, you probably aren't really being held back or handicapped because the game was designed from every angle with the gamepad in mind. I felt that way too when I bought my 360 controller last year and laid my thumbs on analog sticks for the first time since I played Metroid Prime on the Gamecube, but within a matter of a week or two, it became pretty much second nature (first nature still being keyboard and mouse, of course). Even if it is technically inferior to a keyboard and mouse, I think a gamepad is just fine once you get accustomed to it.

I played the original on the gamepad and had a jolly good time. While I'm not getting it on release, I'll be sure to pick it up down the road.

I disagree completely. Even if it isn't scary, I think the gameplay elements, particularly strategic dismemberment, make this game so fun, especially that Isaac is clumsier than your regular Marcus Fenix or Max Payne... Gives a sense of urgency.
