Any Vista fans should pick up August PC Magazine. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said "we can never let this happen again" regarding Vista. That's why they are in a hurry to push out "code name" Windows 7.
I have a duel boot computer...games are better in XP. It is easy to figure every thing out in Vista because it is not all in code form like XP, but it takes more memory to do anything in Vista.
XP and im happy with. flipin_jackassme too, no need to go to vista , it requires a better PC with games and it has problems (but I think they fixed most of it)
the real reason after all is: I'm happy with my Windows XP and there's nothing I need requires Windows Vista (including games) , until then no vista.
games are better on xp if your running low ram. some game require you to have vista, and vista isnt that bad, xp had just as many problems when it launchedAny Vista fans should pick up August PC Magazine. Vista IS that bad.
XP never had this many problems at launch. I got XP the month it launched and was hysterically happy with it from the get go.

bs xp had alot of problems on launch, and wait till mid next year, you will see more vista only games, and not to mention when xp launched it crashed the CIA infastructure, so dont tell me xp was all fine and dandy when it launchedvista is only bad because people think it is because they try to install it on lower-to mid end pcs/... thats the main reason.
LOL. If want games have XP.Vista only for work NO GAME on Vista.naskott212that made little, to no sense.
as for me, i just upgraded to vista a month ago and i am liking it so far. DX10 is a nice upgrade and i see nothing wrong with vista, unlike all the Bandwagoning XP fanboys

woah watch it dont assume, first of all im no fanboy, second of all i wasnt even referring to your pc. or you in general with that last comment. thats why i used the word people, not you. finally, 90% of all OS when first launched had problems, vista had problems im not denying it didnt, im just saying so did xp, and ME, and 95, etc. xp wasnt really that great an operating system till service pack 1, and 2. but in turn i would not have vista without service pack 1, because it too was crap. and no your pcs are not low end, niether is mine :), well my one for music production is, windows xp, cause for music using vista is stupid, atleast until more compatibility issues are met, and im talking about making and recording music not listening to just to clarify, and that pc is a single core pentium4 3ghz, with only 1 gig of ram, but my gamming pc you can read in my sig. and it is a high-end machine, maybe not top-of-the-line, but i can upgrade anything i want really, but for a high-end machine and the price, couldnt of done better in price unless i went with ati, and theres nothing wrong with ati, just i prefer nvidia. but for gamming i choose vista for dx10, and next years dx11. and other reasons, one being more vista only games will come out. and ill be upgrading from 4gig of 800mhz sli-ready ram, to the 8gig, and once quad core becomes being used in games, ill upgrade, but for now dual will ppreform just as well, its more based on the cpu-speed than how many cores in gamming... for now, but a single core is just not strong enough for todays games. and ill upgrade to the 9800gx2 in sli, here in about 7 months, unless better deal comes out then. but anyway im just rambling on, i just wanted to clarify things, so dont call me a fan boy, i mean who am i gonna go with, sony? lol, or nintendo? no, mac lmao, no so who is left????? so backwards compatabliliy has been a problem with most OS at launch, not to mention normal OS bugs, that later get fixed or tweaked with patches and updates. but no one had as many problems as ME did, when it came to the networking side. though i do have a question for you are you running a single 8800gt? and who is it made by, lol im just curious, mine are both bfg. and what games do you play? and how long have you been gaming,...fact is im just tired of all the fanboy crapp on here too, not to mention all the IP-bully wannabes, and know it alls, and self proclaimed messiahs, lol ok that last one lol little too far, but look friend, im just trying to give myself a reason to even remotely look at these forums anymore, since its filled with "said above" so if your still interested, i play fps games, flight sims(though it has been a long time) not really any racing anymore, i dont really get into the sports games, i like rpgs, mmos, fps, dungeon, hack and slash, and rts, like command and conquer, blood, duke nukem, shadow warrior, diablo, starcraft, red alert, james bond and whatnot, , i have been gamming for 22+ years, and i have a feeling i will never stop. just developers need to step up, and the publishers need to but out, its the music business all over again.

though to be fair, on SO game compatiblity i am running vista 64bit for the ram, and on battlefield 2014 or whatever the name of it was, it said the game has not been tested on 64bit vista and may run into problems, the game booted up just fine, though in gameplay it did experience problems, but that is the only game i have ran into that problem with, though im not at all talking about when either OS launched, just since they have been out a while. but on the xp side, i got the command and conquer the first decade for xp, and on the xp os, there were some issues during the game, during gameplay, thought it was only for the original C&C and original C&C red alert. and the main issues with those was the cursor and click points not registering., those have been the only compatiblity issues with either xp or vista, that ive experienced, since a while after either of their launches. and to clarify i game alot lol.and console game alot too, done just as much of it as well. though i prefer pc, less kids online, and the options for dedicated servers.Vista is a much better Operating System in every way in my opinion. I just wish I went for the 64 bit version when I had the chance. I'll never go back to XP. DX10 does make a difference.Staryoshi87
You're right. It does make all the difference. Your FPS halved is the difference.

yeah but so does turning on AA, but hey if you want better picture quality you have to have a good gpu configuration, and i run dx10 just fine 60+fps in most games. with AA turned on.
Still using XP.
I have minimal experience with Vista (just used it a few times on my parents laptop when I visited them), but my dad's a pretty computer savvy guy. At first, he thought of it being just fine though slightly cumbersome. However, after wanting to a bit more with the thing, he's less than satisfied with Vista.
I'll wait to see what MS offers from Windows 7.
I am very happy with XP, but I would like to try Vista even thou some people say its very bad.Justrinx80% of the people who say Vista is bad haven't tried it themselves (or only tried it the first month after release), but are only saying so because the majority say so, and the majority is always right, right? Vista runs with almost the same performance as XP, so far I have only noticed little difference (I have dual boot with XP... but today I practically never use XP) I have installed tons of games on Vista (old and new) and so far the only games I haven't been able to get running are exactly the same games XP can't run. Sure, it's probably possible to get the games running through DosBox or something like that, but for those games it wasn't even worth the hassle). I have even managed to get an old game running in Vista (out of the box, no messing around) that I couldn't get running in XP You almost never see the blue screen of death in Vista (unlike XP) Vista did have a lot of problems at the beginning (drivers not working as they should), but those problems are ancient history now

You know some of us have actually tried Vista; during beta, after release and post SP1 and we are still having problems. You cannot simply lump everyone who doesn't agree with your personal experiences into one category and declare them wrong. I 'recently' moved back to XP because videos were maxing my CPU and games were acting weird; not forgetting performing worse.
Typical response 1 - "Lol your PC must suck".
It is a 2GB DDR800, 512mb 8800GT, AM2 2.8ghz x2 machine. I max practically every game on this machine and it plays Crysis on high with some VHigh, it should more than cover Vista's hardware requirements.
Typical response 2 - "You probably have bad drivers/codec's".
Everything on my computer was fully up to date, I went through many of them and applied updates trying to figure out how to fix different issues.
Typical response 3 - "Well I don't have any problems, no one I know has problems".
Well lucky you, as much I am sure you are going to downplay people who have problems with Vista into a minority; enough people do have problems to deter adoption and encourage switching back to XP.
Typical response 4 - "Response X".
Vista is not perfect and people still have problems with it, regardless of what the fans like to think. After trying the operating system 'multiple times' I am now in the wait till Windows 7 crowed; this isn't from common opinion or some sort of personal bais against Vista but 'personal experience'.
People keep saying drivers have come a long way; but quickly blame them when something goes wrong with Vista...
By the time they have sorted all these "driver issues" out; and it is time for me to upgrade so Vista's background work doesn't rob resources from my games; Windows 7 will probably be out.
There is no point in me hitting heads with Vista and trying to figure out what is wrong when XP, at least for me, works flawlessly with the same thing.

AA doesn't halve your performance. Take CoH for example. Turn on DX9 and add 4x AA. The jaggies are gone yet it still runs somewhat near the FPS you had before. Now turn on DX10 and then watch your FPS drop by a dozen or two. It doesn't do much to the actual graphical quality either. And while you have no problem adding DX10 into the equation, not everyone had the money to shell out $800 for a SLI configuration.
I could never go back to XP. I like my gadgets, I use a lot of RAM. I've got 8GB and I'm on vista 64 bit. Even 4GB is pointless on xp. Vista handles RAM much better than xp.
I like how you can change the folder location of my documents, my pictures, my videos etc. to something of your choice, i have the location set to another hard drive. So if i need to reinstall vista all my save games, everything is still in tact. And gaming, clearly nobody on xp has played a game on vista from the comments I'm reading here. Someone said your fps halves on vista.. umm wtf? no it doesn't. maybe one or 2 fps lower, but that's it. I'd take 1 or 2 fps lower with 100% super smooth gameplay over those extra 2 fps and choppy gameplay in places.
I guarantee you if you compared my system to one that is exactly the same but running xp, mine runs smoother and is more responsive. It's all about RAM with vista, and with the price of it now, there is no reason not to upgrade to atleast 4GB.

You can change the location of you documents and pictures folders on xp, and 9x. Explain how Vista can handle RAM better. If you are refering to the superfetch service, then you are sadly mistaken.

I'm not. The 80% is from personal experience. Whenever I hear someone say that Vista sucks I ask them why. ~80% says either "I dropped down 2 fps in some FPS game, now I can only run CS with 100 fps instead of 102", "I tried the beta and it didn't work at all" or my favorite "My friend/brother/neighbor told me that no games work on Vista, so I didn't try it myself" The last 20% actually has some valid reasons. For some people Vista is giving a lot of problems, but based on personal experience it's far between those people I'm just so damn tired of the escuses people come up with (with the "I haven't tried it, but someone told me it sucks" being the one I hear the most)Please Log In to post.
