Is the beta going to open to everyone after a few days? If that is the case, then I will play the beta.

However, since playing over thirty hours of Bad Company 2, I might be getting a bad case of deja vu here.

I'm playing it on the 21st. The Gunclub site is down I think so I can't register my BFBC2 copy there.

haha exactly.

i can wait until the game is released, and 60 bucks for something that should be free is simply rediculous.

For hardcore fans only.

yea for hardcore fans. This is where pure unmatched stupidity comes. I mean is there any MOH hardcore fan? Noo? of course no, its an fps that has been dead for some time and now is being revived. I mean when we talk about epic, story-driven, RPG games like for example SW,ME,NWN,...etc, you would find hardcore fans who are willing to pay 60$ to play the demo now. WTF EA is doing? it should be encouraging and advertising the game, not doing "closed Betas".

I can not justify preordering it for full price to play a beta... if it were to be public for free sure.

I keep getting burned by Steam when I try to download a newly released game.. takes forever, constantly pausing itself, I always have to fight it... happened with MW2 and AvP. I think I'll just buy the retail copy here on release day :P Too bad I don't get in the beta but w/e.

I can see both sides. A lot of gamers don't have the cash to be paying full price for a pre-order just to play beta. I was at that point in my life as well when going through college. Now that I'm older it's a different story I suppose. I've been looking forward to the game for a long time so I'm eager to see how polished/unpolished the beta is at this point and hopefully get a few cents worth of my opinions through to the developers.

Playing devil's advocate, I can see where it makes sense to make the beta available first to those who pay up front. For one it protects them from all those premature betanators who like to join free betas, try it for 5 minutes, then declare they'll "never buy this buggy crap", even though that is by definition what a beta is. They've got your money now, so ooops too bad! Also prevents those types from immediately going out on the forums/blogs etc and declaring what a crappy game said beta is, hurting sales further. Games should always be judged on the released product, not the beta, no matter how bad it is.

It also makes sure that the most hardcore fans of the series/genre will be playing the beta first, so that they get useful and valid input from their core audience. Also, it allows them to judge interest in the game using pre-order numbers to better plan marketing before release.

That being said, I have pre-ordered games in the past that totally sucked so it's always a shot in the dark. I don't worry about it much, since most games give hours of enjoyment (100s of hours if it's a good fps) for the price of dinner and a movie. Can't beat that imo!

You are very wrong, its the top seller on steam right now. Just because YOU don't want to pay the money does not mean that other fans/people do not.

This. Although I just took the safe route, pre-ordered it on Amazon. I get a beta key on the 21st instead of the 17th, but I can cancel the pre-order if I don't like it, whereas with Steam you can't cancel it.

I think the way the beta is being handled is so pathetic, I can't put it into words. You're essentially giving them $60 to play an unfinished, content-lacking multiplayer portion of a game for roughly 30 days, then waiting three more months to actually play the full version of the game. Had this been treated the right way, they would've given the public a chance to beta test the game for free so that they could sort it out before gathering $60 - a disgusting price to begin with - from each person being sucked into this scheme.

Ahh I cracked.

- I really don't spend my money on anything worthwhile

- I know I'm gonna play it

- watched the E3 trailer repeatedly and loved the music, game looked good too :D

- the non-Steam versions are gonna have SecuROM, so I'll take the crappy Steam dl'ing instead of that.

Well... I consider myself a hardcore fan of Medal of Honor. I guess I'm old and rusty, but I still remember the great times with the various maps (like V2, love that map!) and some of the singleplayer missions such as Omaha Beach that I played over and over because I enjoyed them that much. (And I usually just skip singleplayer to move on to the online campaign.) Unfortunately, it's an entirely different theme and developer, so not sure if any of that really matters. Having watched the gameplay vids though, it does look pretty freaking fun. I'm tempted to pre-order and beta this baby!

yea, there are only so many modern-era shooters we really need.

oh well, we went through the whole WWII theme and got like 30 WWII-era shooters, now its the modern era's turn. Prepare for another 20 installments.

what I find confusing is how we missed the 60+ years in between these two wars. Vietnam is relatively untouched by major studios, and frankly the Vietnam veterans are getting old and wont be able to help consult for historically-accurate games in a decade or two.

Honestly, though, I would love to see a return to squad-based games. A modern Brothers in Arms or Republic Commando would be awesome. I'd also like to see some near-future games a la Battlefield 2142, only "realistic" (yes, I know GR: Future Warfighter is coming but thats a bit too far fetched/not far fetched enough)
