Am I the only one who thinks that a KOTOR mmo would be a bad idea? I have hoped for a KOTOR 3 ever since finishing the second, but I hoped it would have been a single-player rpg like the previous titles. Why would an MMO be a bad thing?

First off, KOTOR's story was one of the best parts of the game. (kotor2's story was especially amazing.) Implementing an actual storyline and characters is almost impossible to do in an MMO game. Making a redone version of SWG with a KOTOR name on it would ruin a lot of potential a third KOTOR game has.

Second, knowing that it is EA who owns Bioware, console ports of a KOTOR 3 mmo would be very possible. Speculating this, the game (as an mmo) would be dumbed down for the console. A single player game could be done well (as the previous kotor games were on the xbox).

There are probably several other reasons why I feel KOTOR 3 would make a far better game as a single-player rpg than an mmo. Seeing it as an mmo would be a very big disappointment for me.

well when the Ebon Hawk was destroyed and the somewhat bizzare ending of KOTOR2 i did not see a number 3 ever happening... a new star wars MMO would be awsome.

I LOVED SWG when it was first released... so massive and sweet... so innovative.... but then they dumbed it down. Hopefully KOTOR 3 will give us SWG all over again

Not really. Bioware is 2nd part ....while they are owned by EA. They are not in house or 1st party. Plus Star Wars is a huge IP, Bioware will do as they please or they won't make the game. Plus LucasArts people will have to quality control it.

as much fun as KOTOR 2 was...and it was a blast, did anyone think the ending was as lame as i thought it was? cuz it was pretty crappy compared to the ending of the first one. the only way it could be a good ending is if they pick up right where the second one left off and tie in what happened to revan.

KOTOR 3 as an MMO would suck for me.

The real draw of the series has been the single player story....and I was hoping that KOTOR 3 will conclude the storyline.....if KOTOR 3 made as an MMO it would literally kill any chance of having the series end with a good storyline narrative.

It seems kinda of contradictory though, not to long ago BioWare on their on forums literally said they are not working on any future KOTOR games.

This is the main reason EA bought Bioware in the first place.

They want to ride the MMO money train to nickel and dimesville.

Actually if you could be a robot that would kick ass (HK-47 > All Jedis)... Customizing from head to toe and etc. I do think it will suck for an MMO since Bioware makes cool stories. MMOs + stories don't mix well if you want to see an example see the Warcraft series.

EA doesn't give a rip whether old-time fans like it or not. They know that hordes of zombies will come out of the woodwork and pay $20/month for anything that has MMORPG and Star Wars in the title.

I really hope the MMO isn't a continuation from Kotor II, if it even is Kotor... I've never found MMOs to tell a good story, and I don't see myself doing the fun things I did in Kotor I/II, in an MMO.

If the mmo isnt KOTOR 3, I doubt there is a KOTOR in development then. It makes perfect since why we havent heard anything confirmed yet because that would make everyone stop playing SWG currently.

Instead of being story driven it would be level grinding driven. There, that's why. It wouldn't be "KotOR" if it were an MMORPG... it would be Star Wars Galaxies 2 set in the Old Republic Era.

Its an absolutely terrible idea. Here's to Team Gizka and their KotOR II Restoration Project! *raises glass*

I've been wondering pretty much the same thing since it was announced that Bioware was doing an MMO. Their strength has always been great epic single player storylines. (in my oppinion) Gameplay has always been relativly mediocre. Combat in Kotor was rather simple, it got the job done well enough to support the great story and that was kinda it.

Second, Bioware has never really been very good with quality control, most of their games tend to have a lot of bugs and flaws if you start doing the quests in a wrong way or wrong order. I'm worried if they are up to the enoumous challange its going to be to keep an MMO realtivly free of gamebreaking exploits and bugs.

Still, I've played and enjoyed most if not all of their games. Whatever the MMO is I'm curious to hear more, but it just dosent seem to be something that really plays into their traditional stengths as a game studio.

I will be seriously disappointed if KOTOR turns into an MMO simply for the reason that I hate MMOs. I agree, the story is a big part of the single player adventure and adding MMO is just nuts. I'm fine if they want to add a multi-player component, but I want to immerse myself into the single player game and continue the story. I can assure you that I won't be playing the MMO.

2 reasons why the decision to make KOTOR3 an MMO could suck (I'm not saying it will but the devs will have to overcome these hurdles for me to play it) :

1. Story! It's an RPG and as such, the story is VERY important! I'm sure many peoples' fav parts of the previous KOTOR games are the story (that and it's set in the star wars universe :P)

2. Pay for play. If they make it pay for play, they can count on having one less customer. I want KOTOR and I would prefer a very single-player focused game and so if it absolutely has to be an MMO, it had better not be pay for play.

Ok well that's my two cents lol

That was supposed to be dealt with in KOTOR II, but it was cut from the game. I highly doubt that they will continue that plot-line.

You can still play it - there's a patch somewhere on the net that allows you to play an almost-finished version of the robot factory (which is probably being implemented in Team Gizka's pack). It was fairly fun.

Anyway, Bioware doesn't have any experience with MMOs, EA kills MMOs, and Star Wars MMOs fail.
If this news is true, I'd advise avoiding this game at all costs.

Source please. They were supposed to be dealt with in KotOR II but they didn't have time to finish those levels, there's still some of the dilaogue from the HK factory in the game files. I seriously doubt the 3rd game would revolve around such a trivial matter compared to the grand scheme of events in the galaxy.

Much like Final Fantasy, I wish developers would stop passing MMORPGs off as a sequel. Warcraft had it right. WORLD of Warcraft. It should be WORLD of Final Fantasy, WORLD of Knights of the Old Republic.Final Fantasy Tactics wasn't passed offas a direct sequel, it was Final Fantasy TACTICS. If they want an MMORPG, they should develop it apart from the KOTOR series and also develop a true stand-alone RPG for KOTOR 3. MMORPGs do not have the story or unique gameplay that make stand-alone RPGs so fun. I want to play KOTOR to develop the storyline of my Jedis, not hack n slash, rinse n repeat.

A KotOR MMO would suck yes. Because like any MMO you'd have to dedicate your life to the game for months on end to experience the "story." But I kind of doubt the MMO they're doing is KotOR I think it's more likely to be a NWN MMO.

I know what would be fun! If they made a single-player campaign to make all the hard-core RPG fans, and an online mode that has a whole nother' campaign that's added to like weekly. You would also have to have more than 1 person to play it, eh? Does it make sense? Well anyways, if you're a true KOTOR fan, you won't care if KOTOR becomes an MMORPG, as long as it isn't dumbed down.

To tell you the truth, combat in KOTOR II was really quite simple I would think, if it was dumbed down even more than it already was, I might just go insane, lol.

Well, the reason I loved the first two kotor games were not because the gameplay was amazing, but because of their incredible storylines. MMOs and storylines dont mix very well.

Actually, I just finished the game another time, and I found it. If you talk to Kreia (or Darth Traya) right before she dies, she tells you her revalations of the fate of your party members, and of Revan, the Republic, and the Mandalorians. She said that the Mandalorians would eventually die over millennia and become just a man in an armored shell who would be easily defeated at the hands of a Jedi or something like that.

MMOrpg's geneally all suck anyway, it would be another grind for cash and items load of rubbish like wow and lotr's etc etc.

koto needs to stay single player!
