why are my speakers picking up mexican broadcasts?

This is really wierd.. I turned down my speakers all the way and I still hear something coming from them.. so I put it up to my ear and I hear people speaking in spanish.. like a spanish radio station.. can anyone tell me what the hell is going on? its kinda freaking me out just a bit..

Lol, wow thats rather funny. Um what kind of speakers are they, and do you happen to actually have a spanish radiostation by your place? Maybe your speakers are haunted o.o

Here they are. Its really strange.. the only way I hear it is if the volume is all they way down. It comes in faint but you can hear it. I know I have a lot of Hispanics in my city but Im not sure about any radio stations..

Pretty much any audio electronics are susceptible to AM broadcast radio interference. All it takes is something to act as a diode to rectify the signal. That it happened late at night and then went away is telling. AM stations have to reduce power or shut down at night because at night their carrier will bounce off the ionosphere and interfere with other stations on the same frequency a very long way off (Check this page from the FCC.). So there doesn't have to be a station near you. You can actually talk to the FCC about this, if you want; there is an e-mail contact at the bottom of that page.

that is weird yet hilarious. i know of all radio stations in my city and we are 100 miles away from any other metro area and my city's metro area has nearly 600,000 people.

i only once heard people through my speakers when they were off

There are some home made stations that don't follow over the air guidelines correctly. Listen for them to give the station name and report them.

You Sir hit the nail on the head. I couldn't have said it any better myself. On a good night, I can pick up signals (faint of course) from Chicago, and I'm in west Texas.
