@lantheone-Get the PC ports of Sakura Wars which are as every bit as good as the original Sega Saturn and Dreamcast versions.

Play Sakura Wars and you will find an experience unlike any you ever seen in RPGs.

Here is a review about the series as a whole:

I can't help but feel this thread is one big advertisement for Sakura Wars.

Alot of PC gamers here seem to think that all Japanese RPGs have linear stories and Gameplay is like Final Fantasy style or some similar turn based RPG.

But not all Japanese RPGs are the same!!!

Take the greatest Japanese RPG SERIES EVER(and greatest RPG series along with The Elder Scrolls):

SAKURA WARS

Unlike Final Fantasy and the steriotypical JRPG,Sakura Wars is the most unique RPG experience(and series)you will ever play.

Unlike Final Fantasy, where you spend much of your time traveling and fighting random encounters,in Sakura Wars you spend most of your time interacting with very pretty anime like girls. There is a Turnbased Strategy Combat system that appears in each episode in the game, but you really spend most of your time trying to interact with the awesome gorgeous girls of the games including samurai lady Sakura Shinguji,Rich lady Sumire Kanzaki,Badass Russian ex soldier Maria Tachibana,Psychic French girl Iris, and Karate Blackbelt tough lady Kanna Karisshina.A;sp the leveling up system is the most unique in all of RPGs.Instead of earning experience points from battles like Final Fantasy, how you raise the levels of the characters in game is based on trying to increase the affection of each girl in the game. The more a girl likes the stronger she will be in battle. The more she hates you the weaker she will fight in combat. The simdating part completely interacts with the leveling up system. What decisions you make when interacting with the girls affects how much they are fond of you.You have to be careful when making decisions to raise the dispositions of each of the girls because while one action may make one girl like you more,it may decrease how fond another girl in the game is of you.

Also the Sakura Wars series is not linear. It has an open ended story where your decisions when you interact with the girls could affect yhe story branches.Sakura Wars also contains multiple endings, which will appear based on which girl is most fond of you(and is probably also in love with you by the end of the game).

So what is up with PC gamers thinking all Japanese RPGs have linear stories and has the Final Fantasy style gameplay? Not all Japanese RPGS are the SAME!!!

Sakura Wars is the greatest RPG series ever along with The Elder Scrolls.

I simply just love both series so much!!!

My...MY EYES!!! THEY'RE BLEEDING!!!

Seriously :| Did you really have to write such a painful post? Trying to convince us not all JRPGs are like FF bringing forth a game where your main focus is to interact with anime girls :? ?

And it being greatest RPG series *EVER* along with TES...you have all my compassion and sympathy :|

This. I was led to believe "Tears to Tiara" was an engrossing JRPG with compelling story and a great tactical battle system. Turns out it was just an interactive Story with HORRIBLE leveling/gameplay that required no effort, ontop of that it was a basically a PORN game where there were only 2 male characters and about 15 female "hotties" that your main character pretty much had sex with each and every one more than once, with discriptive sexual dialogue and your typical anime porn pictures. TBH mate, I bet this game is the same isnt it? =/ lets be frank.

After looking at some screenshots of the game in the link he provided, I believe it is the same.

Final Fantasy VII & VIII, The Last Remnant and Grandia II is all I can think of right now.

The Last Remnant is a terrible JRPG =/

Opinions, opinions.

You are wrong. Oblivion says :"feel free to play the game, you can go there if you want to continue the story". Morrowind in the other hand, is poorly made with serious lack of voice acting and good menus.

dakan45

If you feel that way, that's your opinion. But facts are town people are scripted to give you constant reminders to where you're heading, fast travel ensures players automatically chose to complete certain missions ahead of others while level scaling means low level exploring is useless.

I would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that dungeon exploring is useless in Oblivion. Level scaling ruins it. Townpeople are actualy scripted so you receive missions by "listening", which allows bethesda to push players into a certain direction regardless of choice.

The journal is nothing more that tons of dialogues that you got to read and try to find where you need to go. When you finnally find the area you need to go or the item you need to pick up, you have to face enemies that take hundrends of hits to die. So more or less you gonna have to spent ages leveling up and ages killing an enemy in a sinlge battle. Way too slow for me and i dont see the point. I already spended hundrends of hours in oblivion, why to bore myself with double amount of traveling, exploration, leveling up and reading when all these can be done much faster and easier? The game is filled with enough content to spend some time in it. There is no need for extra.dakan45

Morrowind differentiates between high and low level enemies. Low level enemies take only a couple hits to kill, ofcourse longer than oblivion true. The game where high level bosses are easier to kill than basement rats....

TC is a troll, obviously. And an advertising spambot.

Also, what you described is not a JRPG but a dating sim, which are even worse than JRPGs.

Also, TES series is not that good.

All Software based RPGs are linear, its how they're made. Pen and Paper RPGs on the other hand, are fully scaled to whatever you want. At the moment im in both a very liear game, a sandbox game, and one in between.

I personally think that, because every JRPG I've seen has met that description. I won't even look at them any longer, can't stand the style of those games. Maybe there are some that are different, but even games that I recall having been described as being different... weren't.

This. 99% of JRPG's are like FF. you can pick out the two, or 3 out of the hundreds or thousands of them, but it doesn't change the fact that the Majority of them are FF style.

And I don't have time to trawl through the many FF style games to find the one or two I might like. It's not a good use of my time, when I can just pop in Morrowind or the Witcher or Dragon Age, or any other of dozens of western style RPG's.

What about Demon's Soul? It's a JRPG with a western setting.

Yeah they can... if you have an octo-core dual geforce 989846490000 XTLMFXGTFO 16 hundreds GB RAM PC that runs on uranium and baby meat, which can run the yet unfinished PS2 emulator. Which is really a shame, I'd love to play Front Mission 4 and 5. Tactical JRPGs are the only ones I can stand, and some are really quite good.

Ps2 emulators work perfectly?
