^^great post, you just summed up the entire game's multiplayer, and its relation to previous BF's.
I have seen some instances of 'organic' teamwork where players see what each other are doing and support them, but this is haphazard compared to the coordination in previous BF games.
I still have a lot of fun with elaborate lone-wolf manouvering, which can actually be very effective, such as back capping with a humvee or van where you jump into the gunner seat and stay totally still while capping the point so that if an enemy spawns and starts looking around they think the vehicle is empty then you shoot them before they can react.
I've also played in a squad with friends using voice chat and such, and its amazing how a single coordinated squad can turn the tide of battle. If this level of teamwork was present by default, this game would be so much more interesting.

Yeah it is fun being a lone wolf in BF3, and I imagine being in a squad like that could be great, but it really speaks volumes of the lack of teamplay and how it affects the gameplay. Having squads actually making an impact was vital in previous two games; it was all about units being mobile groups actually tackling objectives. In the grand scheme of things everything in BF3 is just messy, and it really boils down to just hoping your team is likeminded and knows what they could doing - but that's all solitary thinking, or a few players communicating amoungst themselves. There's no commander to tie it together or chain of command to allocate roles.
It's all very empty and hollow; it's not really like a 'battlefield' at all in these respects. Which is why I'm looking forward to Planetside 2, the first did the whole chain of command thing outstandingly.
