Because when released it was a mess and to make things worse was shipped on PC's with less then 2GB of RAM. It still isn't that great although nowhere near as bad as it once was.

Pretty much this.

I have Vista 64-bit on my desktop PC, and it works fine. It has definitely gotten better with all the updates, and is a perfectly good OS now. I have Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop, and it's not much different from an updated Vista.

as an IT person, using Vista was hellish. It was painfully obvious it handled processes and hardware horribly.

Yeah it was terrible to begin with. After many updates it's actually usable now, but you may as well go with Windows 7 for even better performance across the board.

I went with the 64-bit version of vista(no way near that common back then to have 64-bit) and that was definitely part of the problem but anyways I reverted back to XP 32-bit after a few weeks, it helped that no game was worth playing in DX10 but I still did keep a dual boot of vista just in case.

I liked windows 7 so much I deleted XP which I didnt think I would do.

I don't hate Vista, not even back in 2007. It was on a non-gaming laptop. But, plenty of my older games played fine on it. Now that it's at SP2, it's pretty snappy.

Vista was pretty crappy when it was released, windows 7 is really vista SE.

As of right now, you'd be hard pressed to find any significant differences between vista and 7.

Vista makes my pc/laptop going to dying! It was happened before while I'm got a new slimmy laptop and I'm feel uncomfortable and too heavy to use it. In other words, looks like my new laptop is starting to dying when using windows vista!

hey, another CoH fan! :D what up brother! lol OT. i have two pc's (well, three total. but for explanations sake im talking about the two OS's) one with vista and one with W7. When vista first launched, and i got that laptop with vista on it back when vista was new, it left a very bad taste in peoples mouths. not many programs were compatible with it...the pc it came in had extremely limited ram (in most cases, including mine) it was a buggy nightmare. Now, W7 on the other hand was the direct opposite and it runs smoother than silk. the only program that was better imo was XP. that OS was a beast!

I think most people hated it because they had poor hardware. It was sold on £300 laptops with less than 2GB of ram, of course that's going to be slow compared with XP. With 4GB of ram and a decent system it was fine.

Because Vista was meant to be an improvement over XP. It wasn't XP beats Vista in everyway and even runs better. Vista 64bit did allow for more than 4GB of RAM to be used though. Windows Vista is now useable in its current state, but it wasn't at the time and even now XP is better. However there is no reason to go with XP as you will be held back by the age of the OS and so Windows 7 is the best option currently

I know someone who bought a prebiult from dell or some other brand but it only had 512 ram and with Vista on it. I was like WTF? Also had a friends pc with a q9550 and 4GB ram and gtx275 and it froze up while installing ccleaner(several times), and it was very very slow.

back when I had vista, I had a Core 2 Duo e6600, 4gb ram, and an ATO 4870....vista was STILL sluggish like no other OS, and ate up resources like crazy. The way it was designed had one major flaw in it. The OS basically said to itself "any memory not being used is a waste" and ate up everything with useless processes. By the time vista got stable, we already had W7

The root of the problem is that it was released way too early, with half-baked drivers and severe hardware and software incompatibilities. It really just made a bad first impression.

About a year after it was released, updates had improved it dramatically. But by then it was too late. The bright spot in this was that I was able to get a retail Vista Ultimate for $120, one of the best software deals I have ever made. To be honest, I like Vista better than I like Windows 7.

It was fine after SP1. I really didn't have many (if any) issues with it. The main issue was drivers. All of the sudden peoples perhipitals wouldn't work. Another issue was OEM's installing an already bloated OS on crappy laptops with 512mb of RAM and a 1.6Ghz Celeron M.

I think two things hurt Vista.

1st was the Hardware, most PCs could not run Vista very well, if at all, and yet they were sold with Vista on them. It was a pretty big blow right there.

2nd was the fact that People seem to have a horrible short term memory, They compared vista with XP with had gone through 6 years of updates and fixes, and everyone had forgotten that XP was godaweful when that launched. Much of what we heard when Vista launched, was the exact same thing we heard when XP launched ,it was a resource hog, clunky, had horrible driver support, and just poorly made.

In my view Win 7 is not much more then a Vista 2.0 relaunch, there are differences sure, but they are not very big, a big underliner of this is the "vista to win7" upgrade pack, and how little it were.

I had it since like release, but I swapped between xp64 back and forward. Nothing was wrong with it, all the problems were due to lack of new drivers from vendors because VIsta was a giant change. Windows 7 is just Vista all patched up and since it uses the same drivers it did not have to go through a mess. All the people whining were running on either POS or complaing about software compatability... which is true, even to this day, which is why I have a winxp machine nearby since that thing runs everything.

Vista and Windows 7 perform almost the same now, although there are a few feature differences.

Most people cling onto old vista hate and allow that to influence their judgment regardless of how much it had improved.

Also there were many who never updated their vista properly anyway :/

When Vista first came out it told me that it was incompatible with Microsoft Office 2007.... I think I said enough.

i hopped aboard after the massive complaints had mostly faded and have yet to encounter any problem, incompatibility, driver issue, crash or other annoyance. so no hate here.

Vista with all programs closed used 45% of my 4GBs of RAM.

7 WITHOUT all programs closed uses 29%.

RAM intensive games run much better as a result.
