I had just finished two trails that had come with the game and I didn't see how so many people loved it, let alone, a lot of people are addicted to it. Maybe its because I like shooters more than RPG's, but some RPG's I like. And with all this games hype it should have been good. Anyone that has reached level 70 has patience of God. I felt the game to be kind of slow and boring. And people tell me that the game gets better the higher level you become. Well, I only reached level 16 on a orge warrior-type thing, so that could be right.

But does someone mind explaining why this game has more than 10+ million accounts?

Exactly, any good game would draw you in at the very beginning and hold you there. I don't want to have to work level 25 (or whatever level you consider it to get rolling) then I finally get to have fun.

It's the lure of maybe getting something cool in the near future, so they keep playing until it happens (and if it does, maybe something else will drop, so they have to keep playing).

Depends on how tolerant you are of doing the same bloody thing over and over again with no physical reward.

WoW is really fun and it is even better with friends. Not everyone likes it, there are a lot of haters who think they're too good which is pretty lame considering it doesn't matter which game you play as long as you're having fun.

WoW is 4 years old now so it isn't as engaging as it was when it first started but it still is a masterpiece.

Because it's most peoples first mmorpg. Most people get addicted to their 1st mmorpg, and wow has blizzard behind it and it's easy to play from the get go while older mmorpgs just throws you into the world and says goodluck.

What's there to like about any MMORPG? Most MMORPGs work the same way. I guess it's just not your genre.

I disagree all MMORPGs work the same way. I loved daoc and AC and those were completely different and I have yet to find another mmorpg I really love.

With friends the game can be fun doing quests owning other faction players and raiding. Other than that the game is pretty boring and I can't play it more than 1 hour atm.(even at 70 its boring)

World of Warcraft was at its best when the original one came out (lvls 1-60). After the release of the The Burning Crusades, it pretty much went down hill from there, imo.

Well, if you didn't "get it" right from the start then the game obviously isn't for you.

Johnny_Rock

This. If you aren't having fun at 16 then i don't think you will be having fun later on. It all depends on your mindset.

The allure of WoW is having a lot to do, exploring the world, and learning the deep combat system and group dynamics.

The mindset of many 70s is not good because they feel they need to grind and farm. I never had any of that leveling up.

Oh, and yes, you also need patience. But mentally it pays off because you feel like you have done something worth while.

I had fun. That's what it did for me. You can go and beat Call of Duty 4 on the hardest difficulty, but it doesnt do anything for you. It's just about having fun and it gives you satisfaction.

I dont see how WoW differs from other games in that regards.

I see what you mean. I actually did be Call of Duty 4 on veteran and I did feel quite good. Although it was exactly "fun" doing it. More of a fustration.

Most people that get bored really quickly when playing the game are those who play a Warrior class. That's the most boring class in the entire game (by popular vote). Most newbies just pick Warrior because the name makes people think it's some kind of badass class with great abilities.........WRONG!! Your main purpose is to take damage.....not give it. Next time you wanna try WoW play a mage. You won't regret it. I've played over 4000 of WoW and i've played every class in the game................thats the only class I have fun with.

Since WoW's release 4 years ago no game has been able to stop it. Warhammer Online I think is the closest any MMORPG will come to MAYBE hurting WoW, but we'll see when it comes out on September 18th. WoW is a masterpiece, hands down.

I played it for a couple years as a Warlock and a Druid, respectively and then I quit. I started WoW, City of Villains, and Guild Wars all at the same time. The only one I still play is Guild Wars.

On that note though, each of those three MMOs has something to them that completely sets them apart from the other MMOs. So that being said, WoW's just not for me (although I wouldn't mind playing CoV again). Guild Wars caters more to my wants from an MMO, so thats why I've stuck with it. Its all personal preference really.

It does take lots of patience. I got on the band wagon late so I'm thinking of getting BC tomorrow. I'm only level 41, but thought might as well pick it up whilst getting a time card. I kind of get into role playing a bit with my lock, I like the character customization and epic feel to the thing but it really takes a lot of time. I think when WotLK comes out they should speed up leveling process once again same as last time they did to make up for the new level cap. I find that when I got to lvl 40 and my mount it got better some how. Every time I get into a new area it also feels cool. The only reason I reviewed it a bit harshly was because of the fee. Tomorrow it will come to 67 bucks with the time card and expansion and then I can only play for 90 days. But if you calculate entertainment using Move ticket figures it is worth it and a good deal.

Yeah, in BC, they added more experience points to certain quests. I think they should do that again for the Original World of Warcraft and BC, so newbies, or returning players can catch up for WoTLK.

That's very true. I'm dead serious. Most, if not all the people that I befriended on World of Warcraft never played any other Warcraft game in their life. One of them being me, until now. I just finished Warcraft 3 (where have you been all my life?) because I was too busy playing WOW back in the good ole days. WIth that said, this is true. Although there are some devoted fans who have been following the series for ages.

HAte to break it to you, but welcome to the MMORPG genre :S, theyre obviously not going to give you the good content at lower level,s keeping players active at the highest lvls is where the priorities are, Age of Conan did the opposite and bombed because of it.

Looking back as someone who has played WoW for far too long before finally quitting, I'd have to say that it was most likely friends that kept me playing. It wasn't my first MMO, but it was the first (and only one) that I've played with a substantial group of friends from home. There were about 15 of us, so someone was always on, and that gave us something to do even when we got bored...and we got really bored at times...so I dunno if that's the same for anyone else, but that's what kept me playing for around 2 years >

I remember how excited I was when I got my first WoW account online, it started off as a very fun game based on fantasy and role play. However, the quests lacked the concept of fun for me; they were bland and uninteresting. Then by time I was only a quarter of the way to lvl 70, the quests became difficult to the point where they solely annoyed me and I soon became irritated by the game. I also played all 10 races several times over on different servers, I just couldn't get into it. Nonetheless, the graphics and interaction design are still superb.

[QUOTE="Johnny-Quest"]Because it's most peoples first mmorpg. Most people get addicted to their 1st mmorpg, and wow has blizzard behind it and it's easy to play from the get go while older mmorpgs just throws you into the world and says goodluck.-wildflower-

This. If WoW had been made by ANY other company it would have already been forgotten like, say, Horizons, Earth and Beyond, AC2, etc. Blizzard fans are like cultists. It's very odd and creepy the devotion they have for a faceless corporation. Personally, there are better, non-EQ clone, MMORPG's to play.

Compared to those MMOs WoW is just better. Other MMOs are much harder, the gameplay isn't as tight or balanced and it takes easily 3-4 times as long to do ANYTHING.

Also, WoW has the best PvP of any MMO hands down with both world PvP, Battlegrounds and arena. People like it because it is made by Blizzard, not because they are cultists, but because Blizzard just makes better games.

I've played over 4000 of WoW and i've played every class in the game................thats the only class I have fun with.TheBigBadGRIM

I tried playing WoW three times now (Not trials, I actually own the game and have re-activated my account 3 times now) and I've played everything from a Warrior to a Mage. Even with the differences in the classes, it didn't add any fun to the game for me. It ended up feeling like a second job to me.....and that is plain wrong when games are suppose to be a FUN activity to do in your spare time.

Simple, WoW is a phenomenal game. WoW has reach the point where it's pretty much the mascot of PC gaming. I know there are those that despise it but that still won't impact or harm WoW in any way and is pretty much your lose to begin with. Over 10 million subscribers are having a blast and thus I know how it feels to be engulf by the masterpiece of World of Warcraft. Marvelous!

My son (15 year old) plays it. Sometimes he gets bored with it and plays Oblivion then goes back to it. After playing Morrowind and Oblivion I didn't see the need to pay to play a game online that has no single player mode. It's visually appealing, but I isn't appealing enough for me to pay to play it online. I've yet to see any online only game that I find that appealing.

But does someone mind explaining why this game has more than 10+ million accounts?

wado-karate

If you think WoW of all mmos was slow, then MMOs arn't for you.

Most classes don't start picking up till like level 20 to 30..
