[QUOTE="TheBigBadGRIM"]Most people that get bored really quickly when playing the game are those who play a Warrior class. That's the most boring class in the entire game (by popular vote). Most newbies just pick Warrior because the name makes people think it's some kind of badass class with great abilities.........WRONG!! Your main purpose is to take damage.....not give it. Next time you wanna try WoW play a mage. You won't regret it. I've played over 4000 of WoW and i've played every class in the game................thats the only class I have fun with.sSubZerOo

I tried playing WoW three times now (Not trials, I actually own the game and have re-activated my account 3 times now) and I've played everything from a Warrior to a Mage. Even with the differences in the classes, it didn't add any fun to the game for me. It ended up feeling like a second job to me.....and that is plain wrong when games are suppose to be a FUN activity to do in your spare time.

Most classes don't start picking up till like level 20 to 30..

yeah as a mage I did simple things like fireball, fireball, fireball when I was low level. Blizzard is just giving you time to get used to the combat mechanics. At level 20-30 you start getting more stuff. By level 40 you have plenty of spells to keep you busy. Thats just how most RPGs are....only the most patient get rewarded in the end.

WoW is very casual friendly. Compared to a lot of other MMOs, it's every easy to pick right up. It's also pretty easy to level and attain gear nowadays. The hardware requirements also aren't very demanding at all. There's a wide range of computers that can run the game, and with the artstyle it has it still can look fairly decent.

The game is also very popular, which has its own appeal. I've talked to several people who mentioned wanting to play WoW just beacuse they know so many people that play it, even though they might not have ever touched an MMO otherwise.

1. As others have stated earlier in the thread, it is usually a player's first MMO. Therefore, they are usually oblivious to the repetition at end-game, especially with raiding.

2. Blizzard fanboys are very loyal, as others have stated. They usually do not explore beyond the Blizzard catalog. Shame, they're missing out on tons of gems.

3. Real-life friends do contribute to a major factor to keep someone playing. That's what brought me to start for the 2nd time as a Mage, and quit a week before school started (See bottom paragraph for a detailed explanation.)

4. It's a very very watered down MMO. That's what is keeping the 10-11 million players, little effort put in for maximum reward.

5. Rose-tinted glasses on people that think the PvP system is actually good. WoW is a PvE game. Why did it take Blizzard so long to implement the Honor system? Because it's a damned PvE game.

6. It's WarCraft. Anything WarCraft = OMG ITS TEH AWESOME SAUCE.

Shame that few know that WarCraft is child's play to the titan that is Warhammer.

7. Players are not willing to give other games a chance. Warhammer Online in its current state is in better condition than WoW was at release.

8. Extremely low hardware requirements = happy customers because they're too stupid to want to expand their brains and become better individuals while learning how that "steel box that does things" works.

9. More people playing must mean it's good, right? Wrong. Halo 3.

10. Because apparently there's only one PC game in the eyes of those that only play WoW.

I finally quit because my guild was stagnant, the officers were basically lobbyists, not wanting to push forward, only backward. We usually downed a boss every 2 months, but had a "growth spurt" at late July, downing Void Reaver, Solarian, and Tidewalker all within a week and a half of each other. Before school started, we downed Rage Winterchill, with me being #1 on overall damage as well as on the boss. If I out-dmg Rogues, then something's wrong.

While being true, like HAlo , like Nintendo Wii, it brought in gamers that didnt normal play those types of games, but to think that hardcore MMO'ers didnt switch to WoW for its quality is abit wrong aswell.....

2. Blizzard fanboys are very loyal, as others have stated. They usually do not explore beyond the Blizzard catalog. Shame, they're missing out on tons of gems.

Sorry, proof of this? Blind Accusations mean squat ;)

3. Real-life friends do contribute to a major factor to keep someone playing. That's what brought me to start for the 2nd time as a Mage, and quit a week before school started (See bottom paragraph for a detailed explanation.)

First part is true, but friends help all types of games.

4. It's a very very watered down MMO. That's what is keeping the 10-11 million players, little effort put in for maximum reward.

5-6 hour long raids, very competitive tight laddered PVP arenas not to mention everything inbetween is little effort? What is considered effort in an MMO then?

5. Rose-tinted glasses on people that think the PvP system is actually good. WoW is a PvE game. Why did it take Blizzard so long to implement the Honor system? Because it's a damned PvE game.

The PvP gameplay is one of the best, the content for PvP is what lacks.

6. It's WarCraft. Anything WarCraft = OMG ITS TEH AWESOME SAUCE.

Shame that few know that WarCraft is child's play to the titan that is Warhammer.

Srry what? I keep seeing this, but most of the old Warhammer ( Non 40k) RTS are pretty mediocre, regaurdless of a table top game that has nothing to do with video games... Warcraft has better gameplay, more appeal, and a good competitive standard, what warhammer RTS has that ( non 40k ).

This whole Warcraft is a Warhammer Clone stuff is redundant, and irrelevant to the gaming world...

7. Players are not willing to give other games a chance. Warhammer Online in its current state is in better condition than WoW was at release.

Losing alot of content, 1 sided faction balance, is a good state?in a game where PvP balance is crucial from the very beggining?

8. Extremely low hardware requirements = happy customers because they're too stupid to want to expand their brains and become better individuals while learning how that "steel box that does things" works.

Elitist and irrelevant.

9. More people playing must mean it's good, right? Wrong. Halo 3.

Wether you like it or not, Halo 3 is a great game, Im not fond of Halo either, but I can appreaciate the production values that made the game so lovable.Same with WoW

10. Because apparently there's only one PC game in the eyes of those that only play WoW.

Idiotic generilization.

I finally quit because my guild was stagnant, the officers were basically lobbyists, not wanting to push forward, only backward. Got to level 52 on my Mage (Friends kept wanting me to play with them saying it would get better) and I still found it tedious and boring. I eventually went off to play other MMOs such as Eve. As for RPGs, I play a nice few of them and I can understand that some take some time getting into them but most also have a strong story/background to keep you interested at the beginning. Something that to me WoW was missing.

I played WoW. Got bored at 20. Botted to 60 (and then 70 when the expansion came out). Realized the game was boring so I sold my account and bought a 22" monitor, 5.1 speakers, and an X-fi sound card.

I played this game recently, i finally decided to put up with the 12 hours or so that it took for the trial version to dl from the blizz servers -_-'. I decided to play it cuz i have soooooo many SC friends who got bored of playing the same matches over and over and repeat the same strategies( which i think its total bs cuz i been playing for 9 years, i stopped playing BW 3 years ago and i have to say the way ppl play today is just extremely different) anyway they convinced me i installed the damn thing made my account, created a tauren warrior(i didnt really thought i would like it and didnt feel like getting too complicated learning spells and what not) and this is what happened:

First day was a bore fest my friend was pretty much babysitting me while i learned how to move cuz i spent like 2 hours complaining that i couldnt move with the mouse (like i do in diablo 2 xD) after a good 5 hours i got to lvl 6 and call it a day.

Second day i finally convinced a friend of mine to give it a try with me, he made his account created yet another warrior -_-' and we played for a good 8 hours that day, first day i had fun playing that thing(well kind of) Something happened that day that both pissed me off and made me lol at the same time. Some guys started chacing us around and we didnt know what to do (some tiny guy in a robot, something that looked like an elf, some sort of ninja and something else) anyway when we got to the second village those guys kill all the npc's me and my friend were like WTF :? So i whisper to my friends who played they told me they were raiding the town bla bla bla, he told me to leave them alone cuz they will eventually leave, but then they started chacing us and wouldnt let us do quests :? they either killed all the monsters or just scared them away -_-'(that was the frustrating part) and here comes the funny one. I keep calling my friends to come down and do something about it so they stopped playing arena, came, killed the guys and camped on them for like 2 hours  That was pretty funny

Third day we did more and more quests we both got to lvl 13 or so, then i got really bored of the warrior/warrior combination so i created a druid(one of my friends have one and looked ok) that same day i level it up to 11 by myself in 7 hours or so. Btw i have to say i loved moonglade :o that place looked really cool :).

Fourth day i finally joined my friend who was in the barrens we started doing all the quests there but my friend was complaining that he was tired of all the walking and kept asking me when was it that he could get a mount -_-' i told him 30 and he got annoyed cuz he was 15. We played for maybe 8 hours that day as well.

Fifth and final day we were still in the barrens doing every quests we could, my other friends kept saying we didnt have to do them all but the fastests way to lvl up was doing quests right? My friend got a headache that day and had to leave after we got lost and walked around that part of the map where undercity was for like an hour( our friend teleported us there then he took us to the quest part of the map, so we had no idea where undercity was. Anyway i kept playing and went back to barrens, i did more quests and got my char to 19( i wanted to get the cat form xD) but i eventually to got tired after 8 hours O_o and went to sleep at 4 in the morning.

The next day i got some news that a Bw tournament is taking place in a few weeks (WCG) and lots of the old players were going to play, so i thought damn just when i started to get in to wow, so i put it on hold and decided to dump it to do some Bw training and get back on the old horse. I told my wow friends they were gonna have to hold the parade cuz i wasnt joining just yet(even tho they gave me a cdkey for both Wow and BC).

So that was pretty much it, i decided to put the wow thing on hold mostly due to BW but also cuz my friend got tired of the game and im not going to play the game alone -__-'. I'm trying to convince him to play with me, i already got a credit card to start paying for it so when the tournament is over ill probably start playing... yea im guilty i actually liked the game but most important i need something to keep me entertained till SC2 gets here. So ill get a good character and play arena for a while and then dump it when the best game of all times is released STARCRAFT 2 :D.

PS: I know 99% of u wont read it but **** it, the trial ended today and i felt like writing -_-'.

The whole idea of MMOs is this: Sell you a game, have level grinds with incrementally better loot every level, then charge you $15 a month for it. Diablo 2 was fun, but that was free.

.... How bout you guys actually refute your points.. Now I admit WoW isn't the best thing.. But when I see people saying that pvp is simplistic, it makes me chuckle.. Honestly the only game that matchs pvp in compettive stuff like the ladder is guild wars... Anything else I just havn't seen it.

Well in a nutshell i guess, the game is a little boring cuz u have to do an enormous amount of quets also u have to walk back and forward and that takes a long time too(till u get a mount which i havent yet) but it gets a lot easier and it becomes FUN when u play with 1 or more friends.

I really liked it and im gonna let blizz steal 15$ a month from my creditcard as soon as im done with the Brood war tournament.

I remember when I got to 70.

I got in a big guild who raided a lot. Raiding sucks in that game.

Arena/Battlegrounds were even worse.

Best waste of time I had because my friends made me get to 70. The game revolves around 13yr olds who don't know what fun is and havn't hit puberty yet.

Well the game is popular for many reasons. It draws off the original warcraft rts games so it already had a fanbase when it started. another reason is because it has a huge amount of lore behind it to make for a good story. Some people even like the sort of cartoonish look it has going for it. Beyond that you wont get past the people who say wow sucks, or the people who say X game is gonna kill wow to see why people actually play the game.

I never said you didnt, I find it funny how ou abel people blizzard fanboys, when you all just label a game **** becauze YOU dont like it and anyone who disagrees is a fanboy.

Fact is, his genirlizations were **** so I called him on it.

Haters are the same as fanboys, and then I find it hilarious that players who have raided/PvPed at 70 come here and say the game sucks when they clearly liked it at some point.

Il go play Counterstrike for 100 hours and say "This game sucks, all it is camping twitch grind thats all wait no fun"

I really enjoyed the game before the exp pack Burning Crusade came out. I attributed the fun to being in a real friendly guild where there were people on teamspeak and could have helped you out with any quest you had. After several months of raiding the 20 man dungeons and Molten Core (we didn't have enough members to be 40 man raiding full time), the guild fractured and many quit due to being burned out on the game after having played it for so long (myself included).

I got a chance to try BC at my friend's house recently and just wasn't too drawn into the game again. I guess I overplayed back in the day.

Come back when you WoW haters and WoW Burn Outs actually got more ammo that generilizations. Its just the height of Hypocrisy.

sSubZerOo

Let me know when you're off of Blizzard's payroll, then I'll talk.

WoW has the best PVP, period. I spent a lot of my WoW days in PvPing and it never gets old. It's so fun.

Same here man. I clocked in a lot of hours into the first World of Warcraft. I had a Grand Marshall Warrior (topping my greatest feats) and several alts. After the release of The Burning Crusades, I just wasnt feeling it any more. Granted, if BC hasnt come out, and there was only World of Warcraft right now, I probably would still be playing it. I'm serious. My guild was still working on Naxx, and we were gearing our alts in Blackwing Lair for kicks and giggles, and then Burning Crusades come storming along and replaced all our purples with "epic" green items! :( I'm kinda glad it happened though. It probably would have consumed all my time, like it did, in the good ole days.

Are you a masochist, by chance?

Just kidding..but WoW's PvP, while one of the more interesting aspects of the game, gets old extremely quickly. Arena victory depends more on class combinations/resiliance numbers rather than individual player skill..and the battlegrounds are really lame, save for AB (too bad you can't do AB exclusively to gear up for PvP.)

Also, Druids (Resto = God Mode) Warriors (gogo MS. WELL TIMED MACE STUN, BRO..etc) and Rogues are all retarded for PvP. The class imbalance in the game is obscene, and it's a complete joke that Blizzard is trying to sell it as an "eSport."

Then you have things like multi-boxing and win trading going on in arenas. It's just stupid.

All MMORPGs are gear and luck based. but I agree the PVP side lacks content. not that I care, I play for PvE because of this.

I wouldn't say that.

There was a time when WoW's PvP involved more individual skill, over who was stacking the most resilience. Gear has always been a big part of it in World of Warcraft's case specifically, but it's just gotten SO much worse with the introduction of resilience.

"Luck" has never played much of a role in PvP, however. All things equal (same class, gear) if you were better than another player, you won.

Are you sure about that? do you remeber, back when Blackwing/Naxx Mages 2 shot any player? Warriors 2 shot mages? Warlocks solo 2-3 people? Naxx Paladins took years to take down?

I guess there was some skill/strat envolved, since our Molten Core premade beat a few alliance Naxx premades, but beyond that, I would say it was even worse back then.

I didnt like ressiliance either, but its one neccesary evil to counter the PvE damage output.

Actually, I wasn't playing during that time (BWL nor Naxx were implemented during the times I'm talking about), so no, I don't remember ;) ..I'm talking about back before the world-first Ragnaros kill (which was the only time I even played WoW seriously.)

I hear what you're saying though. Perhaps something LIKE resilience was necessary, I just hate how they've implemented this specific mechanic.

I played from release until a month ago and can safely say that i do not like the game now. It has degraded into a welfare for everyone epic giveaway where everyone looks the same and nobody cares who has what.

MMO's are grinds for gear. They arent fun or entertaining and 99% of the play value comes from building up your E-peen. If everyone in the game has similar gear with next to no effort whats the point?

Its also heavily weighted towards pvp now. Im just waiting for the day where you need a certain arena rating to gain access to pve dungeons.

No, only the poorly designed MMORPG's are grinds for gear. There are a few MMORPG's that don't follow the carrot and stick model popularized by EQ but sadly they are considered "niche" products by the gaming community. SWG wasn't like this. City of Heroes isn't like this and to a certain extent, LotRO isn't like this either. Asheron's Call also didn't follow the carrot and stick formula.

So, I disagree, 99% of the fun in a properly designed MMORPG isn't from building up your E-ego. Personally, I don't need a game to make up for any inadequacies I may or may not have in my RL. For me a good MMORPG is about reole-playing, exploration and socialization, and NOT acquisition. Grinding for slightly better pixels seems futile to me.

WOW's biggest gaming populace are casual gamers, most people playing wow are not generally PC gamers and only play WOW. WOW is a scourge on PC gaming. WOW is a MMO for the masses. A wealth of 14 year olds play WOW and nothing else on PC.

I may be just a complete idiot... but I would assume the game has 10million+ subscribers because they probably think it's fun.

But it's probably pretty crazy and unreasonable to assume 10million people have fun with one game.

That's impossible.
