I played all the games in your little list and more and I still think the Halo games are very good games and spectacular FPS games on consoles this goes for single and multiplayer.

I thought it was mediocre, repetitive, overrated, and unoriginal. But that didn't stop me from having alot of fun with it when it came out. It's a casual gamer's world whenn you're on the the console, and that's what you have to remember.
There needs to be a scientific study into the minds of the people who mindlessly bash the game and claim the people who do like it "have no standards". I think society can learn a great deal about delusional fantasies and the super ego from these people.
Might as well throw the WoW hatemongering bandwagon in there too lol.
I don't know guys, i played through the original a few times, did the second one, and slept through the third one. to me, unreal tournament is much better. you want to talk about ai, yea its not ranked or anything like halo, but at least the bots live long enough to be effective. try a bot match on godlike in any of the unreal tournaments and tell me that the ai sucks. its much better than the ai in halo 1-3 on legendary. halo's graphics are so subpar. halo 3 uses the same engine with updated graphics. halo 2 pc was horribly optimized. halo 1 was about the best because it was new and refreshing, but compared to other games out at that time, it sucked monkey balls.
I liked playing through the first Halo more so on PC then I did on my brother's Xbox....it had it's moments, but it wasn't anything fantastic, earth shattering or mind altering. It was decent enough for me to pick up a copy on PC...
As for Halo 2 and 3, quite frankly I found them awful. The story wasn't very good in these two and there really wasn't anything different over the first. I actually had to be drinking - a decent amount - to be able to play through Halo 2 and 3 with my younger brother. He didn't care much for the Halo 3, but he thought Halo 2 was ok.
I'd much prefer to play Advent Rising over Halo 1, 2 or 3. If Advent Rising was polished up and had a decent multiplayer, it would have done better and would have put Halo on the run. Too bad it kind of tanked....
I always found that the single player never did a whole lot to stick out and be one of those unique stories, but as others have said, it had its moments through the series. Multiplayer is obviously it's strong point, basically it's marketing point to many after Halo 1. It can be fun but I've played many FPS's and Halo isn't the worse, but is positioned somewhere near the middle to top if you look at the whole package.
