I in no way condone cheating, in my opinion if you want to cheat then you need to man up, grow a pair and learn to take your licks in life. If that is something that you do then a ban is definitely in order. You don't get good at anything in life if you cheat!

However the question I have is, does Valve have the legal right to cancel your account and stop you playing single player games you have legally bought from them. Server bans for cheating in multi player, then I say fair cop and tough luck.

But if you have bought and paid for Halflife 2 for example, and you get caught cheating in Half Life 2 Deathmatch, do they then have the right to stop you playing Single Player HalfLife 2 or any other single player games you have purchased through Steam?

I'm pretty there is no single player ban, and multi-player bans are only on the VAC secure sites and bans only occur when trying to cheat on these particular sites.

So don't sweat it.

yeah not sweating it as it would never affect me

just interested in the legalities of an account ban, meaning if you can't login to Steam because your account is banned then how are you able to play the single player games that you purchased through them???

I hated Steam before, but after I got a faster internet connection, I don't think it's a problem anymore.

It still sucks that we're forced to use it, but I think it's not as bad as some say it is, or the way I use to think it is.

Dont get me started on steam, i bought orange box today and when i tried to install it it said duplicate cd key, key is registered to another account. I've been waiting about 6 hours for them to send me an email but im not gonna hold my breath, if it isnt resolved by morning im taking it back and never purchasing a game that requires steam to play it again:evil:

just go back to the store you purchased from and get another copy. and this isn't so much a problem with steam as it is with shoplifters, btw. it'll be the same deal as picking up a non-steam game and finding that the cd/dvd is missing. you just have to go back to the store and exchange it for another.

While i've never been banned so I couldn't confirm it but steam does have an offline mode. You could simply just go into that mode and play all your SP games.

I'm sure you can still login to your account if banned, you just can't play online.

(I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not, feel free to correct me though)

I hate steam because I don't have the choice to want it or not.

If I buy a game in a store, If I want to install it, play it and everything, I shouldn't be FORCED to use steam.(Assuming its a game that's steam-able, you know)

If I had the choice not to use it well I wouldn't and people who wants to would, everything would be perfect.

I do not allow company to force stuff on mewhen I don't want them on my computer.

That's why I hate steam and I'm never going to use it, less money to them.

Sliverwarrior

I agree with you 100%.

Damn you Valve :(

Frankly, I much prefer Steam to the other, ostensibly more intrustive copy-protection methods out there.

Maybe, but this is amessage board. Meaning it's notation not scholastic. His message may not be up to the standards of a school district or university but his message is clear.

Agreed.

At least steam doesn't install device drivers without your knowledge. And screw with your PC.
