This is pretty sad, the last time I checked there were only 550 people playing crysis online and 9,765 playing CoD 4

I guess MP is really bad or maybe cause crysis is a week old.

I hope this impoves in the coming weeks.

is that a bad thing, multiplayer sucks if you dont have anyone to play with.

And aren't all computers bought in the last two years suspose to be able to run it so if they can run CoD4 they can run crysis at least on low.

Maybe they are taking their time with the single player. I just got the game and I am exploring all the ways I can go about things in the game. Trying different ways to complete objectives. Multiplayer will always be there.

Also remember that the single player in CoD4 is about 5-7 hours max. It is all about multiplayer. Crysis is a game that can be toyed with in single player for so long.

@ Black Ace, I love the sig...its hilarious.

@ TC - I still have yet to get Crysis. You have to remember, Crysis with High System requirements and having TF2 just launch a bit ago, UT3 yesterday, CoD4 a bit a go and Gears of War recently, it has alot to compete with. Plus WoW...ahhaha.

My theory:

CoD 4's multiplayer is far better.
and/or
Most people don't have the systems to handle Crysis.

I agree. :P

Anyways, as good as Crysis is, it's pretty short and actually very disappointing, IMO. I doubt I'll play again any time soon now that I've finished it. Well, it doesn't even really finish.......
And the required specs are sadistically high. The funny part being that those guys didn't seem to care about people who didn't buy brand new rigs just for Crysis, I mean, there's lots of settings where there's actually no difference between high and medium, and with most settings, the difference is only minimal......seriously, that's plain retarded. :)

It's no surprise since the multiplayer isn't that good and most are playing the single player. I guess everyone is playing COD4 online. 900 players worldwide with 150 of those in the USA isn't good.

That many people dont have a rig that can handle it? Yes it is. It means you won't have as many people playing online. Game in beta and the demo ran like cap on my system. That and the fact that it felt too much like FarCry, which I despised, were determining factors in my decision to pass on it.

I just finished it 2 hours ago, and it's freaking awesome!!! and Crysis is going to be a trilogy, here's the source:

I'll be waiting for the next games and I'll probably get them....

I have a midrange pc now, and up to crysis ive played far cry again and i love that game. Then i tried the demo of crysis and it only runs a little smooth on low and i ran far cry maxed, so going from that to crysis on low ;) Crysis on low looks like a ss, and it seemed like far cry again which is not bad, but those 2 things didnt make me wanna buy it now. Ill properly pick it up once i have a nasa computer :)

I have a QX6600 with GeForce 8800GTX and in order to get a good framerate I have to play Crysis on 'medium', which means I'm not even using DirectX10 features - ridiculous.

I'm installing it on my XP drive now - I will probably be able to play on high if its anything like other XP/Vista game experiences I have had...

i honestly think Crysis was overhyped. i can run the game on medium settings but it just doesnt look that great. even when i get an 8800 i wont buy crysis for full price, ill wait until it comes down. it was a big turn off when i played the demo and realized the gameplay really wasnt all that great. also, the multiplayer is lacking and the single-player campaign can only be fun for so long. just like farcry...it got high ratings but the single player got old and the multiplayer just wasnt very fun. cod4 multiplayer is so in depth it keeps people coming back (they need that next level baby). unlocking perks, new weapons and attachments and completing challenges is just so rewarding. i doubt its the fact people dont have rigs to run the game because i just saw a steam survey that put 40% of rigs with dual cores and 7900's with 2 gigs of ram or better. this means 40% of most gamers could run the game on low-medium settings no problem.

CoD 4 is focused on providing a MP experience (which is stupid IMO, not everyone likes MP) and Crysis is focusing on providing a SP experience. I think the main reason people aren't playing Crysis online is because of the system requirements, not everyone has a beast of a machine to run the game, let alone online.

Thing is, a couple years from know, people will still be talking about Crysis. When you say: "what about Call of Duty 4?" people will respond: "Call of Duty 5 or 6 is better." The online portion of CoD4 is not going to last very long, only until the next big title comes out... which won't be far off, doesn't UT3 come out in a couple weeks?

550 people is still plenty of people playing. You probably have thousands more who do play online but arent on at the time. So by asking why is no one playing crysis is misleading.

I just did a seach on the site the OP is referencing and it returned over 1500 active users. So i guess like any game alot depends on the time/day you perform your search. In any case, I don't think crysis is a game that lives on its multiplayer. Farcry's multiplayer was never really popular either, but it's still one of the biggest fps franchises ever.

CoD's campaigns are always short, while their multiplayer is more fleshed out. I'd say a large portion of CoDs fanbase is in it for the multiplayer.

As it stands, both games have great multiplayer. And they'll both have active communities for a very long time, so don't worry about it

FarCry didn't have a very large online community either - I think most people took it as a given that Crysis would be pretty much the same.

Not enough people can play it properly online too, and besides, it's up against TF2, CoD4 and soon UT3. Cysis is one of the best singleplayer games I've ever played, but it's punching above its weight being grouped with those games.

That is 1500 active players world wide. I am sure you wouldn't want to connect to a German server and I think the browser might limit you to servers in your country. Crysis is the best SP game I have played and they tried to make the multiplayer interesting with the power stuggle mode. Power Stuggle would work better if you had 31 friends to play.

Shoot. It has way more competition than that. Besides the new games you mentioned, most of the pc gaming community still loves their classics. And why shouldnt they? CS 1.6 and CS:S share about 150k users during the peak time of the day. Thats insane considering the game has basically stayed the same for the last 10 years. hehe

i love CS btw. Just got into it recently and amazed at how well the gameplay stands the test of time

Firstly, I live in europe and play on Eu/American servers all the time. I've never been limited to my own region on an online pc game (besides MMOs), and I have a solid 5mb cable line that ensures lag is hardly ever an issue. Secondly, if you've never played on a server with people who don't speak your language, you might want to try it sometimes. 9 times out of 10, they'll speak english anyway. Not that you really need spoken communication to be successful in most online games, but if they want to get a msg to you and they don't speak english they usually find a way. It's not that bad. In fact, i've purposly connected to foreign servers many times to get away from the some of the childish behaviour I see a little more frequently on american servers

The closer the server the better the ping so I always play on East Coast North American servers where i can get a ping of around 20.

I'm not playing the hell out of Crysis right now because I don't have my new PC yet. (And I'm not buying that PC just for Crysis-my current PC already struggles with older games such as Armed Assault, Battlefield 2, and TESIV: Oblivion, all on MINIMUM settings!) I'll tell you this, though-multiplayer is one of the major reasons why I bought Crysis. I like the concept of Power Struggle, and it gets even more exciting when you throw in nanosuits, on-the-fly customizable weapons, and a huge environment in which just about anything and everything can be blown away.

True but as long as your under 100ms you'll be fine. 33.3 milliseconds is the amount of time one frame lasts in a 30fps video. So if you can really tell the difference between 1 frame and 3 frames....then bravo. You must have the fastest reaction speed of any human ever born.

I think the big reason less people are playing Crysis online is because of the following...

System Requirements - The games a system hog and while older PC's can run on lower settings the performance and visuals aren't that amazing at these settings. So this may be a factor to take into consideration as to why few people are playing Crysis online.

The multiplayer itself isn't that diverse or great compared to other FPS games released this year that have a multiplayer feature to them.

The single player seems to be where the excitement is for most people when it comes to Crysis so perhaps more people are playing and replaying the single player instead of online?

it's rare to get below 100 on a foreign server. I am sure it can happen but local servers are just better.

Either you have a crummy connection or you just have no idea what your talking about. I play on mid-west coast servers from england and get 50-70 pings. i play on polish/russian servers and get the same thing. I'm positive you could play on a british or french server and have the same thing, assuming you have a good connection. I'm just assuming. Europe is alot more advanced in the broadband department than america, so maybe that isnt the case

I bought COD4 and went straight for the multiplayer. I haven't touched the single player game yet. There are probably a lot of folks out there in the same boat. And as some have already said here, COD4 will run on many more PCs than Crysis will. If i were to buy Crysis I would play the single player first.

It's just like when GeOW came out, people where like "where is everyone" while they were busy playing single player. CoD4 has one of the shortest single player campaigns out there, only thing I can think of that's shorter is Portal. Since CoD4's multi is so hyped, people will jump right in.

Crysis is a week old, people are playing and re-playing the single player. While the 9,000 on CoD are trying desperately hard day and night to get some camo for their gun, and unlock their own frikin' playing style (perks).
