Why is skyrim so hard?

pick a character style and stick to it. Being jack of all trades will make the game a pain in the ryoal ass

1 Avoid saber tooths, giants, trolls and dragons at lower lvls and when you do finally face them its best to kite them.

2 I started with an archer type class and very rarely died [try and get sneak shots as they crit]

3 Take your time dont try and take on groups all at once

Never used shields

Never bought potions

Only used gear i have found and i have never had a problem with the game, so take my advice and other peoples on her and you should be fine :D

First of all, the game is not naturally supposed to feel this difficult, so rest assured that there has to be some sort of solution to your problem.

Now, as common sense would have it, do not equip robes if your play style involves running in, slashing, and spitting fire. Invest in armor, preferably heavy armor, unless you really do find amgic to be that much more important (in which case I'd ditch the melee and go for al-out magic).

Also, do not venture too far out into the world when you are at a low level. Steal some potions and buy some, and then learn and develop your healing spell (since you are a one-hand magic, one-hand melee player anyway).

Do not spread yourself too thin when it comes to perk points, but feel free to engage in any activities you are interested in. Smithing, firing arrows at knees or rabbits, and alchemy give you experience points all the same.

Find a companion to travel with you either temporarily or permanently. Examples would be the mercenaries sitting in virtually every inn in Skyrim.

If none of these tips work, decrease the difficulty.

If that doesn't work, promptly exit out of the game, uninstall, and play Dragon Age Origins on the highest difficulty, or The Witcher 2 on its highest difficulty. Then reinstall and run through Skyrim wearing cloth and using nothing but dual maces.

It can get hard at some points, ( I get raped by ice blasts still) But as you get high level and better gear and perks stuff should become more leveled.

Okay so this is my first Elder Scrolls game ever. Bought it after all the awesome reviews it got. So far its been so so, Im a level 8 character with a single handed weapon and fire. I find it hard to stay alive in most of the dungeons. And theres barely any gold to buy enough potions to stay alive. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a rite of passage?

Not sure what brought out the trolls today, anyways, a couple of things that might help:

1) Pick up a ranged weapon. A lot of creatures can easily be killed by kiting them (shoot and move backwards, rinse and repeat). On top of that, the AI is usually not the sharpest tool in the shed so often you'll be able to kill creatures far above your level by using terrain to keep them at a distance while you fill them with arrows.

2) Don't be afraid to walk away and come back in a few levels if an area feels to difficult. Use the freedom that Skyrim offers to leave to tricky parts for later.

3) If you haven't done so yet, I'd suggest following the main story line at least until you get your first dragon shout. It adds a nice bit of extra power to your character.

4) If you are relying heavily on potions to heal, be sure to pick up some light magic and a healing spell.
