Thanks, ill get a 650W PSU, but with the CPU, should I upgrade to a Core 2 Duo, and that means i will have to upgrade my Motherboard as well how much would all this cost (round a bout?) because i am trying to save my pennies, i blew it all on the GX2, and my motorbike keeps breaking down :'( thanks. Actually a 500w PSU would be adequate wouldnt it.
well i am trying to stay on the lower side of the 400$ mark but as always i want the most bang for my buck, i am thinking of getting a Core 2 Duo E6300 with a 4mb cache as i will be able to get it OCd to about 3ghz, and i am just thinking about a motherboard probably Gigabytes Gigabyte's GA-965P-DQ6 im checking them on pricespy.com.au atm but im still not too sure as i do not know terribly much about computers.
Well i could purchase both the motherboard and etc online for around 150-200$ and the CPU for around 275$ - 250$ and then i still need the PCU which will be about 125$ so all up thats AT BEST 525$....ouch....
yep, but when you ordered something with the likes of the 7950 GX2, you need the parts to back it up :) psu, cpu and the lot, moreso with the 8800 series, but i'm running an 8800 gtx with a 375w psu lol.
make that like 640$ coz ill probably end up getting the PSU from getright, a retail store for like 250$ becuase adel sucks for prices and ill just have to buy the rest over the net when i get the money. But are you sure that it is the PSU slowing this system down? or is it the **** CPU? (i personally thought 3.2 was really quick)

Its a pentium 4, as surprising as it seems, it really is slow compared to today's standards, and would be a definite cpu-bottleneck. The power supply can possibly be attributed to the slowdown as well, as a system not fully powered will not run 100%, and sometimes you may see clear symptoms, like random BSOD's, random shutdowns, or it may not be that evident, but you can see it through poor gaming performance. Oh, and it can help if you tell us what psu you have currently, just to see if it indeed there is an issue with the psu, but as far as it is concerned, your primary concern should be your processor.
far out this is starting to sound really expensive now, and confusing, this is the second forum on this i have going and ive had two people say that it is the PSU (the box also states that a minimum 500w PSU is needed) and also ive had another 2 people say that it is the CPU one of which is a close friend and is doing a bach in computer tech argh and to top it off i cant find my motherboard on any online stores for less that 330. I do not look forward to this lol and the 200 or so $$$ for someone to fit it this is starting to look more like a 700 - 800 jobbie

yeah, its kinda hard to retrofit old systems with new hardware, it usually ends up with a total system overhaul, like changing the motherboard, power suppy, cpu, ram etc, oh... what ram do you have? say you have ddr2......Â
Yeah Thankfully i wasnt suckered in that much i got DDRII ram but still im never dealing with A and R again, sell me an out of date computer, but this overhaul is going to be expensive because i need to pay for all this **** on apprentice wages. will it fit my processor? www.pricespy.com.au says that this motherboard (the 680i) costs 319, with that price id be better off spending 20$ more for the gigabyte one (easier to overclock)

I didn't check the delivery charge but i think itll be cheaper than 330. Just a question, is this mobo good for overclocking? (not an extreme overclock, about .2Ghz for the processor)Â
Yeah this Configuration that i am setting up 2.13Ghz processor and the mobo that i have stated can be OC, you would be wasting your time Ocing only a little bit, I have seen this config reach speeds in excess of 3.4ghz and above although it becomes unstable above the 3.2 3.4 mark And the mobo itself is designed with OCing in mind, all typs from extreme to minor and it includes software to help make it easier, go to: http://www.gigabyte.com.au/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2424&ProductName=GA-965P-DS3 Thanks for all this guys
Yeah, but then if you go up to those speeds you're gonna need a new cooling system for the cpu. I just want to get a E6600 (which im getting soon) upto the same speed of an E6700 but without the extra cost, thus i don't need to fork out more money for the cooler + im not experienced with OCing, so i wanna start slow. Actually it has been proven that they can run at 3.2ghz without the need for some extreme cooling ie no water or liquid nitrogen as they had to have to acheive 5ghz on a single core, but one or two fans would do the trick i would stick with teh latter which you should have in your comp anyways, and this mobo is designed to suit novice OCers right through to the Pros, and for some reading proof and further info about OCing this Setup and mobo is featured alot on the well - renown hardware review and comparison site; www.tomshardware.com this is a great site, happy ocing Cheers!
