My admiration for the kotor series has no limits.I'm an rpg hardcore player and Kotor 3 was one of the games i wanted the most in all the gaming industry. If the sources are true and Kotor 3 will be an mmorpg than disaster is soon to strike all of us RPG fans. Why Bioware? One of the greatest games in story and in character creation you're destroying it?Don't you think we fans who bought your games and made all of you nerds rich and happy deserve to know what happens to Revan and The Exile? Why couldn't they make it a KOTOR MMORPG a general mmorpg after all the 3 parts were extinguished. Why did you have to destroy something so beautiful and pure?I know the MMORPG will be succesfull but still nothing can ever replace the emptiness that Kotor 3 left in my gamerheart.PTUUU! on you Bioware....too bad i can't swear...:(ShadyJadeThey are destroying it?FOr all you know this could be the best MMORPG ever, I doubt they are gonna do less than in the games before when this is is a sequel even if its an MMORPG, otherwise they would have just made a new game not a sequel to kotor.
Yeah, it would destroy the series for me.
If they do it I won't buy it and instead I'll wait for Mass Effect to be released on the PC.

Ihave to disagree with that... KOTOR was an amazing RPG and it wouldnt be the same as an MMORPG. Besides.. under EA.. EA screws up a lot of franchises. IMHO.

Maybe you didn't read the last lines i wrote..I said it would probably be great as an mmorpg...but some of us we just want our RPG's with our twisted stories and all the stuff...

The thing is, because other mmorpgs have not done it, doesn't mean bioware cannot pull it off.Obviously it is not impossible for it to be done even on mmosSome of us are feeling sad...the ones that are feeling enthusiastic about Kotor 3 being an MMORPG pls don't post here...Let us drown in our own sorrow :(ShadyJadewell im not actually enthusiastic or sad, just saying its possible they can pull it off and remain loyal to the series.

It could all change ;)When i heard about this i swear a single tear rolled down my face. I can't express how gutted i am that they are making the third installment in one of the best RPG series created into a MMORPG. SW-Galaxies sucked and hardly anyone plays it now compared to when it first started, that alone should of made them think about making another SW themed MMO game.
But oh well i won't be buying this game when its released, i don't like MMO's anyway as i don't agree in the pay-to-play style of many of them.
this is a nightmare....this is a nightmare....
once again another great video game series is in danger of being raped, maybe ill just go play russian roulette instead, theres a game that wont let me down.
(walks away disgusted to go play some russian roulette)
drat...we need a suicide emoticon...
damn you bioware, and damn you ea, the raper of all video game series, damn you all!!1!
(walks away for the final time, thouroughly disgusted.)
If some-one where to make the best MMORPG ever Bioware would be the ones, so its not bad at all that they might do it. It could actually be a really good thing.LTZH
Not really, Bioware is a Master when it comes to RPGs, but MMOs are a whole different area, Im not sure how much different the two genres are, the fact that I am a gamer and not a developer, but we need to look at why Bioware's RPGs have been so good, they have always been epic single-player experiences focused on the player, in a MMO world its not about a God-like hero, but a bunch of people playing a Mediocratic role in a world with other people, so basically in a RPG your the Hero who saves the galaxy(or world, galaxy in this case), but in a MMO your just another average joe, getting your ass handed to you by people who have such a lack of life that they can quickly lvl, and even then there is usually someone better than them, so MMOs should be a pretty alien place to a Developer known only for RPGs, but then again Im just a gamer, who's only played two MMOs and those two were WoW and Guild Wars, so I may be wrong, but in response to "It could actually be a really good thing", I will say this and only this:
I doubt it :(.

Bioware has yet to make a bad game although the buyout with EA worries me a tad. It is amazing how people say there is no possible chance to enjoy the installment without even knowing what will exist in the game itself or if the rumors are even true. I will say that the news article mentioned not so much that the title was going to be KOTOR 3 even though it was plastered in the title but more that it would atleast take place in the KOTOR universe which might possibly come with a totally new story line and new characters. I would not suggest making assumptions until it is first confirmed and also the details are revealed.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this just an unconfirmed rumor? I thought it was reported from questionable sources? How do you know that they aren't simuletaneously working on KOTOR 3 AND a Star Wars MMO? Either that or who's to say that this IS the third KOTOR? Maybe this will be a KOTOR MMO but that doesn't mean it's KOTOR 3. KOTOR just stands for Knights of the Old Republic. Know what I mean?
Anyway, I LOVED KOTOR 1 and 2. I played through both numerous times. I'll honestly even say that I haven't played a really good one since. I love Star Wars, RPG's, and I think a good Star Wars MMO would be very successful.
Just my $.02
*the guy above me pretty much sumed it all up*
I don't see how anyone can argue that Kotor or Jade Empire had great gameplay, infact I always felt that the combat in these games was mediocre, same with the loot and classes. I mean the three classes in KOTOR where just variations of one with hp/force points distributed differently. The class balance in Bioware games is always off, playing NWN as a thief is a pain in the ass and if you build your Jedi as a support character then you were screwed for the final battle. The Baldur's Gate games also had plenty of class imbalances and AD&D rules that were written in the manual but Bioware was too lazy to implement them in the actual game.
Finally releasing an MMO is a major technical challenge that companieswho haveexperienced in the field stumble on even after delaying the game or spending years making it. True Blizzard managed it with no previous experience, but they did run Battle.net for millions of people.
The only part of the KOTOR series that needs to change for KOTOR 3 is the graphics.(Next Gen) any other change is unaceptable. This series represnets one of the best RPG's ever. Changing the game type is unthinkable, to the point that just heatimg about it pisses me off.yardious1
Bioware is fully aware that the popularity of the game is based off of it's story and game mechanics. As mentioned before the title has not been confirmed and even though it may be true this does not mean it will start where KOTOR 2 left off. It may well end up taking place in the KOTOR universe but Bioware has been extremely silent about the project and they may end up coming up with game mechanics we have yet to see in a MMORPG. I suggest we all wait until the title is confirmed and the details are shared with us.

An MMORPG is an MMORPG. No matter your track record, you have to stick to the formula that works for that genre. So yes, KOTOR 3 would essentially ruin the brilliance of the KOTOR series. It might be a fun MMORPG, but it will never match the rich single-player story-driven atmosphere of KOTOR 1 & 2.
I'll bash this game once I'm able to play it, and I'm going to have to buy it, or get into the beta or steal it from Canada under a fake name. Anyway I don't understand this bashing of a game we no literally nothing about? I know this sounds scary, but hell so does alot of things that actually come out really good. Just look at sushi. My point is at least try it out before you start blindly bashing it for no effing reason.jrhawk42
It doesn't matter if you the play the game or not. A stand-alone RPG is an entirely different game than an MMORPG. It could be the best MMORPG ever and it still doesn't satisfy what made KOTOR great for so many gamers.

They've aquired a proprietary MMO engine that handles most of the MMO hassle. Classes were off, yes, but I always liked the combat, even though the story was the main thing
Mmorpgs are complete **** because every dev team says "this one is different" but then it's released and it ends up being the same buggy as hell grind like WOW or EQ. The one's that are different end up being a failure like Planetside or SWG. Tbh Bioware said they wouldn't work with Lucas Arts again so i don't know if this is a rumour, however if they do then what a shame, they could of made such a great single player KOTOR.

You'r like the messiah lol
MMO games generally do suck, how people can play WoW for hours upon hours upon hours is beyond me. How many generic dungeons or settings do you have to travel through before you've had enough!
Yeah, it would destroy the series for me.

Meh, who cares, we can't stop them. At least we know it will be a good mmorpg, possibly the best. In fact, I can't wait, a Kotor mmorpg sounds awesome.Dopemonk736
agrrrrrrrrrreeeeed
FIRST: BIOWARE didnt announce Kotor 3 to be the MMORPG. Perhaps is neverwinter nights, or baldurs gate.
SECOND: youve ever played guild wars? it has great story, even for a mmo. it has great character development for a mmo. So, if the new mmo is kotor 3, GIVE IT A CHANCE
