I recently bought a 13 inch macbook pro... was looking around for ages as i needed a laptop that was portable, had good battery, and that i could play games on... being that games were an important part of what my laptop had to have i did not even look at macs as everyone knows they do not do games well... so all i found of the windows based pcs that were portable and were good at gaming, was the alienware m11x... i was very keen on it, seemed to be the only product that met my needs... well until i came across it in a shop and saw just how small an 11 inch screen was, as well as how tacky it looked, and how terrible the keyboard felt...

after seeing the alienware i was immediately turned off of it... looked like one of those cheap personal computer toys you give to a child, felt like one too...

so there i was, with the only option being to buy a 17inch beast of a gaming laptop, with just a few minutes battery life if i wanted to be able to continue gaming (am on a year abroad with my uni),

at that point i looked at the mac... this computer had the portability, the battery life, good looks, solid build quality... all needs were met except my gaming needs... or at least i thought...

i bought the mac, and bought boot camp, i now can run both os and i just use windows for my games... they were amazingly... everything i have thrown at it has run with no problems... i just cant understand all these gamers against mac... they say they are over priced because for the same price you can get a more powerful windows based laptop, but the truth is yes it may be more powerful but you are missing out on all the rest that makes a mac far superior... the battery life... wow... use it all day off the charger... use it all around the house... build quality is amazing... its all built from one piece of aluminium so when u hold it, it feels solid... there are no bits that move, or squeak... instant on off, close the lid, open it, there it is waiting for you... the fan is as silent as they come, only getting louder when you are really pushing the machine... perfect size and weight, who wants a chunky gaming laptop that weighs a ton... there is no point, just get a desktop...

i could go on and on, the truth is this mac is the best thing i have ever bought... typing on it right now is a joy, it just oozes quality all over... for the power boost you get on your money using a windows based pc you miss out on all the other things that make a greater difference to your overall experience... people need to get over hating something they just dont know enough about, because no one knows how sweet a macbook is, until you have one of your own... and even then you have to have used it for a while to learn all the secrets of the system...

as for its gaming capabilities, do not listen to anyone who tells you they are not good... get bootcamp... it works a dream... no problems with it... no compatibility problems... works just the same as on a windows based laptop... most of these people saying it doesnt work as well, have never tried it, i am sure...

and finally as for not being able to put all the settings on high, well boo hoo, find me a laptop where you can put every game on high, but make sure that same laptop does not weigh a ton, and has a good battery life... because laptops are made to portable... otherwise i said it and i will say it again, get a desktop!!!

The premiums are higher than what you could get from a toshiba/lenovo/asus equivalent. And if sustainability trifles you, Macbooks arent exactly an environmentally friendly product. I dont see much hate for Macbooks compared to desktop Macs anyway.

Is there a reason you made a new thread with the exact same text you posted on this other thread?

I'll answer your thread title, though:

1) Macs are overpriced. Macbooks are especially overpriced.

2) Macs are terrible for gaming. Excuse me if I ignore your opinion on how they are just as good as windows based pcs.

Show me ANY Macbook and I'll show you a laptop that for the same price is significantly better in every category you can possibly imagine, even battery life. Of course, if you take advantage of all the superior capacities of this new laptop, it's going to have a lower battery life, so to compare them you'd have to scale down this new laptop to the macbook's inferior capabilities.

Becuase there's an Apple logo on it, and Apple is popular. I like to be obscure, you know? I'm a goth, and we goths, we can't be trendy. But maybe if one day Apple stops being popular, I'll get me one.

Because the price is way too high for the performance you get. You are paying for the name and the OS, that is all. Also, everyone knows not to buy an Alienware for a gaming laptop. And lol @ people buying macs to put Windows on it, it's like tossing a big pile of money in the trash. the only thing that makes a mac so expensive is the name and the OS. If you are going to use Windows, why not buy a similar Windows laptop for much cheaper?

Macs are solidly built machines, albeit quite a bit overpriced. My theory: If you're buying a computer exclusively or mostly for gaming, go with PCs. If you want a computer for a variety of uses (including gaming) and really want it to be a Mac, get a Mac. You could do far worse for gaming, really.

Like you said, you can get a much better computer for less. I don't care if my computer is clunky as long as my game performance isn't.

first of all i started a new thread with the same text on another thread, because the other thread got me thinking why is everyone so against it... therefore i wanted to see if i could answer that question...

as i expected no one really read my thread, i guess when people get past the second line the skim read the rest and think they have understood what i am saying... all these answers reflect that...

you say macs are terrible for gaming, but i have just told you i play games on my mac and they work great... go on youtube, see people playing via bootcamp... see it for yourself... they work great, you get the best of both operating systems...

again i know you can get a laptop with higher processing power than a mac, you say every category, thats not true, try finding me one with better battery with the same processing power as a mac...

all of you speak as if power is everything, nothing else matters... you can have the fastest car in the world but if driving it is uncomfortable your not going to like it... after all on a day to day basis your not going to be driving at full speed all the time...

the chiplet keyboard is so nice to use, the huge track pad, the multi touch... using a mac is a joy... this is my first macbook, before i had a sony vaio and all i can say is that this macbook feels like a computer from the future... how i put up with vist all those year, and these clunky pcs, i just do not know... there is no way i could go back... dont hate mac for being good, they make the best mp3 players, they made the ipad, everyone else then made a tablet pc, everything they do is copied by all the others... can you not see that??

macbooks are not overpriced at all... find me a laptop with better build quality, better battery, nicer to use... can you not see how all the other laptops are just copying everything from the macbooks... the chiplet keyboard has been copied to death... the design, most laptops are trying to look like macbooks...

the power difference which you all seem so obsessed about, is going to do what for you?? be slightly faster when running your programs?? how much faster?? my programs open pretty quick, i do not need them to open any faster, as i would barely notice it...

Overpriced, not a fan of their OS, a lot of my commonly used programs require Windows and I like my 2 button touchpad.

Considering the price you pay, yes, they are quite poor for gaming. The Mac's integrated video options are decent at best, and barring specialzed laptops, for the same price you can have a much better integrated. I purchased an HP Touchsmart tm2t with a Radeon 4750. Its performs roughly the same as the Macbook, though the macbook has a faster processor.

My tm2t is also a convertible tablet notebook with a wacom digitizer and a capacitive touch screen. I paid $890 for my configuration. Frankly, the ONLY thing your macbook has that is superior is that its an IPS screen and the slightly faster CPU.

again i know you can get a laptop with higher processing power than a mac, you say every category, thats not true, try finding me one with better battery with the same processing power as a mac...

all of you speak as if power is everything, nothing else matters... you can have the fastest car in the world but if driving it is uncomfortable your not going to like it... after all on a day to day basis your not going to be driving at full speed all the time...ULYSSES2004

You can have the most comfortable seats and car in the world, but what good is it if it doesn't get you where you want to go? The list of available applications natively to a mac are rather poor.

the chiplet keyboard is so nice to use, the huge track pad, the multi touch... using a mac is a joy... this is my first macbook, before i had a sony vaio and all i can say is that this macbook feels like a computer from the future... how i put up with vist all those year, and these clunky pcs, i just do not know... there is no way i could go back... dont hate mac for being good, they make the best mp3 players, they made the ipad, everyone else then made a tablet pc, everything they do is copied by all the others... can you not see that??ULYSSES2004

Chiclet style keys are pretty common. I dont know if the Macbook was the first to adopt them or not.

"they make the best mp3 players"? It sounds like you're drinking the koolaid. It is widely know that there are far superior MP3 players that deliver better sound quality - and have removeable media - than any of the iPods. Oh, and at a better price.

macbooks are not overpriced at all... find me a laptop with better build quality, better battery, nicer to use... can you not see how all the other laptops are just copying everything from the macbooks... the chiplet keyboard has been copied to death... the design, most laptops are trying to look like macbooks...ULYSSES2004

Sure: my Hp Touchsmart tm2t. it has an excellet build quality with its aluminum body as well. It has a slight engraving so that its not plain and boring visually. Battery life is great, so no issues with it. And its by far nicer. I can do my work without using a keyboard or a mouse. Sometimes i just want to get something done real quick and i dont even have to flip open my tablet...i just tun it on when the screen is facing up - tap, tap - and im done. About as convenient as a smartphone, but a heck of alot more powerful. Readin on my convertible tablet is a joy especially since i can switch it to portrait mode and get more lines of text...something your macbook cna do, but is awfully inconvenient to use in such a format.

the power difference which you all seem so obsessed about, is going to do what for you?? be slightly faster when running your programs?? how much faster?? my programs open pretty quick, i do not need them to open any faster, as i would barely notice it...ULYSSES2004

You paid a crap-ton of money for a product that is objectively slower, objectively more expensive, and objectively less feature-filled. If you want to up play the subjective aspect of build quality, thats cool. is it worth all those other downsides? Most people don't think so. Thats where all tne "hate" comes from.

does any of you read what i write??? sounds like your just repeating the same old broken record... mac is overpriced, here is an article i just found "This is an impartial question, not intended to show bias toward Macintosh or PC's in one way or another. The fact is, though, that Macs are more expensive in general than PC's. Everyone knows that, and many have never bought a Mac because of it. In general then, what is it that makes Macs more expensive? One reason is labor. Apple spends a much higher ratio of it budget hours on it's operating system, hardware design, and aesthetics. Artists and engineers must work closely together at Apple. It is true though that Windows engineers have their hands full making sure that the Windows OS can be ported to a myriad of hardware systems, and Mac is far more streamlined and can focus intently on enhancements, reliability, and usability. The Mac OS offers much more software and functionality for your dollar than does Windows. The second element is parts. While Apple uses mid to high-end parts in its computers in much the same way as other computer manufactures, Apple carefully chooses its parts for reliability, design, and compatibility. A Mac can last a very long time indeed. Apple is famous for coming up with ingenious designs such as the iMac, the Mac Mini, and the iPhone. In fact, this has been the Mac legacy from the very beginning. And as computer parts get smaller and smaller world wide, Apple spends a great deal of its time considering how to consolidate such parts in a simple, elegant way. Finally, in consideration with parts, Apple strives to make its end products very aesthetically pleasing. Perhaps most important in this equation are gorgeous monitors; something Macs are famous for and graphics professionals love. However, these monitors are top-end and expensive, which further drives up the price of a Mac. All in all then, Mac and PC prices are pretty much comparable."

So, you're relying on an article written by an information technology and computer science illiterate just because it supports your point, rather than making your own one.

This is worse than usual. It's downright stereotypical.

...So in conclusion, you pay more for irrelevant aesthetics and a dummy OS. The actual reason it costs so much is because Apple likes to make a lot of profit from every item they sell. But if you like to pay more money for your hardware, that's your prerogative.

ok so i paid more money for a product which is slower, more expensive and less feature filled... for one my macbook is faster than your laptop, has a better graphics card and has a better battery life than your laptop... i wonder if my macbook will last longer than your laptop... less feature filled?? why is that?? because the list of applications is less than for pc?? i remember owning a pc and when i had to buy software for it i had so many programs to chose from, all one worse than the other... yes mac has less but better quality, and i will take quality over quantity every time... again your only argument seems to be that you can get laptops for cheaper that are faster... you say whats the point in having a comfortable car that does not get you where you want to go?? what does that mean?? macs do not function?? they do get you where you want to go... just with less power... i dont think anyone really has a reason to hate mac, other than the fact that all they know about them is they cost more and have less power.... that seems to be all they need to know to make your judgement... and yes, i said it, ipods are the best for the average user, i have a shuffle, and it works perfectly... removable media, do not know why i would need it on an mp3 player... better sound quality?? really?? and the same size of a shuffle?? and cheaper?? which one??

Asus G53JW-FHD owner here (my models difference being 12GB of DDR3 instead)

The laptop absolutely smokes a mac book for the equivalent price.

While I know the mac books aesthetics and build quality in areas would have been better; I would have been paying the same for something that is superficially superior.

My laptop is a perfect substitute to a gaming PC, much better than my own desktop, quiet, never heats up, and has a button to change power saving modes to increase battery life when performance is not required.

Naturally it has all the perks of Windows 7, and an excellent screen on op of that

. Nope, as far as a laptop is concerned, it's great, and for me the far superior option in every way imaginable.

i am actually relying on my own experience, i had a laptop, now i have a macbook, i find it to not just be a bit better, i find it so much better that it angers me to here people arguing differently when i know that you have no idea why a mac is better and you will never have any idea why, because you are so wrapped up in your little its less powerful and overpriced talk, that you cant see past the stats and see all the other things that sets it apart from the rest of the laptops out there... you guys just ignore what i write and continue to write the same things over and over... overpriced... not as powerful... and so on... not one of you has said yes its true macs do look nice and feel nice to use, better than pretty much any laptop... yes they also have a really good battery life... and yes most of what they do is copied by other laptops... not one of you has acknowledged anything i have said... this is a complete waste of time... it comes down to people being "fanboys" and supporting there own team at all costs... its pathetic... no one buys a mac just because it has an apple signal on the back...

Which is why Macintosh users have been notorious for that exactly stereotype? Now while I don't think Mac books, or Macintosh computers in general are bad, by all means they are not, I do think constantly reiterating everything you like about the computer isn't going to actually fuel a debate.

You yourself said you have been looking for a laptop for ages. Such insecurity means you have very little knowledge of the laptop market.

Then you go ahead and claim what you experienced with a Mac is better than what anyone else has said, despite your obvious lack of knowledge of any reference or comparison...that you yourself stated.

And you also go ahead and say it's US that are wrapped in talk and that, again, Macs "feel nice to use than pretty much any laptop", have a better battery life, still with NO REFERENCE OR COMPARISON whatsoever.

You, sir, are in utter DENIAL. You're the one wasting our time. kkthxbb.

[QUOTE="skrat_01"]Asus G52JW-FHD owner here. Naturally it has all the perks of Windows 7, and an excellent screen on op of that. Nope, as far as a laptop is concerned, it's great, and for me the far superior option in every way imaginable.

well obviously portability is not an issue to you but i like to bring my macbook around with me... also the battery life is better on my macbook... truth is if i want to play games on the highest settings i have a desktop for that... before i had a macbook pro i had a 17inch sony vaio... it was a misery, so big, so heavy, battery life practically zero... 13 inch is the perfect size for a laptop in my opinion, anything bigger is too big... so i guess it comes down to what is more important for you... i looked into the asus before buying a macbook, but after my 17inch laptop portability and battery life were essential... and games play sweetly on my macbook, all settings on medium it is no problem...

Portability is an issue for me, this is a computer I intend on carrying for work purposes. The laptop is by no means a weighty monolith, I'm using it on my lap at the moment, and fits into a couple of bags of mine for transportation just fine; nor does it weigh a ton. The downside being its profile makes it thicker than most laptops, to make up for the hardware inside of it, and ventilation. Battery life better? Well I don't know, I can't make a judgement as I don't have one, however I can get longevity out of it running on the 'office' work mode, which I am now, more so on the battery saving mode. As I said. "Nope, as far as a laptop is concerned, it's great, and for me the far superior option in every way imaginable." and that's what it is. Can I take this about with me and play e.g. Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the highest settings at 1080p, with a nice framerate? Yes. Can I travel internationally with a gaming PC? Yes. Am I willing to sacrifice a lower profile, less weight and more battery (at a lower clock speed) for more performance? Yes. Am I getting something that well priced next to laptops which charge an absolute premium, ala bang for my buck? Yes. Your macbook might be perfect for your needs, however your needs sure as hell aren't everyone else's. I've used macintosh computers for many years now, and while I see the appeal it doesn't fit my requirements whatsoever. Go figure.

the only reason i was looking for a laptop for ages was because i was convinced i had to have a widows based laptop if i wanted to play games... and the only windows based laptop that measure up was the sony vaio z which is ridiculously expensive... lack of any knowledge of any reference or comparison??ULYSSES2004
yes, actually - the sony vaio laptops are also pretty overpriced, and IIRC usually loaded down with bloatware. i liked the acer timeline tg-series laptops - core i5 2.53 + hd5650 + 8-hour battery for $800. slightly more powerful than a MBP, slightly cheaper, and i think slightly worse on the battery life?

ULYSSES2004

Again, you state you "were convinced" you had to look for a Windows based laptop and therefore, once again, that you have no knowledge of the laptop market. And again, you make comparisons out of THIN AIR, considering you yourself said you have no experience in the field.

Your statements are getting more ludicrous with each post.

Ironic, the only CoD I ever owned is CoD2, that I received as nothing less than a gift. Your broad assumptions give you no credit. Stop bringing shame on yourself, you're making all worms look bad.

Because Mac users are so snobby, irritating and they are constantly "showing off" their "amazing hardware and OS" when you can't even run Portal at a constant 30 FPS on High settings on a MacBook Pro.

ok so i paid more money for a product which is slower, more expensive and less feature filled... ULYSSES2004

You dont find an issue with that considering thats the very definition of poor value?

for one my macbook is faster than your laptop, has a better graphics card and has a better battery life than your laptop... ULYSSES2004

I would hope its faster considering what you paid for. The Radeon 5470 in the touchsmart tm2t is around %5 + or - to the 320M. Engagdet did real world battery tests of the Touchsmart tm2t and rated it at 5 hours of regular use time and 4.5 hours of video playback time. MacWorld rated the Macbook at 3.5 hours of video playback. I'll fully admit, that video test had the touchsmart at 65% brightness while the macbook was done at %100 brightness which does not make the test equal. But given similar settings, i have no doubt that they would perform nearly the same.

i wonder if my macbook will last longer than your laptop... ULYSSES2004

Speculation. irrelevant.

less feature filled?? why is that?? because the list of applications is less than for pc?? i remember owning a pc and when i had to buy software for it i had so many programs to chose from, all one worse than the other... ULYSSES2004

I was addressing just the hardware, but alright. My HP touchsmart has more USB ports, an actual standard battery plug, a Wacom digitizer, a touch screen, an HDMI port (DisplayPort doesnt carry sound), an VGA port, and 500GB hard drive standard.

For less money.

If you want to talk about the software end, sure. But frankly, even Linux has Mac beat when it comes to software options. Mac third-party software isnt generally made better. I use Macs daily and i've seen my fair share of glitches and crashes and the ever lovely infinite spinning beachball of death.

How ironic that the best selling software for Macs is Microsoft Office for it :/

yes mac has less but better quality, and i will take quality over quantity every time... again your only argument seems to be that you can get laptops for cheaper that are faster... ULYSSES2004

No, my argument is that you can get laptops thats are BETTER, faster, and cheaper than Macs.

you say whats the point in having a comfortable car that does not get you where you want to go?? what does that mean?? macs do not function?? they do get you where you want to go... just with less power... ULYSSES2004

Due to client issues using older software, the macs we have at work need to have Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign/Acrobat CS 1 installed. We also need to use the CS3 version of those programs because of certain key critical features missing in CS 5, which we also have installed.

In short, we have 3 different versions of 4 different programs installed to cover our needs.

This, as you can imagine, is clogging up like crazy our "Open With..." menu option. Because we rarely, but still have to, use CS 1, i dont need any of its "Open With..." features.

Do you have any idea how much of a pain in the ass it is to edit that Open With menu? You have to use the Terminal to actually change it... Most people recommend just putting up with it or deleting the file holding that ifnormation so that nothing shows up. But hey, i thought Macs "just worked" and "everythign is easier on a Mac." Well, now, its a serious pain in the ass.

A perfect example of "a comfortable car" that doesnt get me where i want to go.

i dont think anyone really has a reason to hate mac, other than the fact that all they know about them is they cost more and have less power.... that seems to be all they need to know to make your judgement... and yes, i said it, ipods are the best for the average user, i have a shuffle, and it works perfectly... removable media, do not know why i would need it on an mp3 player... better sound quality?? really?? and the same size of a shuffle?? and cheaper?? which one??

ULYSSES2004

I use Macs daily. there are some things i really like, likes file system reporting. There are also things i dont like about it, like setting up a Bluetooth PAN was like pulling teeth, while a fairly simple process on my Win7 machine.

the only one who keeps pulling thing from thin are is you, you just re type what i wrote and then say you have no experience of the market... dont bother writing anything if you have nothing decent to say.... you are clearly an ignorant fool who is on the net to gain some confidence in your ability to argue... let me give you a little advice... when you argue something you have to back it up... give your statement... then after follow it up with why such statement is true... my broad assumptions give me no credit??? lol who is this i am talking to?? are you some guy who believes he is some sort of jedi master?? lol "stop bringing shame on yourself, you're making all worms look bad" lol hilarious... you must be some sort of a clown...ULYSSES2004

I just pointed out that you were relying on a unreliable article, and you raised hell over it instead of getting documented yourself, and then kept claiming you were offering justifiable comparisons while in fact you yourself said you have no clue about what you're talking about.

As I said before, you are in utter denial. Have fun outside of our "Mac hating talk", fact remains that you are the ignorant one who is wasting our time by talking of things you don't know.

Have a good day, sir.

thank you big smoke for another good answer... obviously people have different needs and for people like you who need more than two usb ports, who need the possibility of turning your laptop into a tablet, a macbook makes no sense... but what i am referring to is the average user who likes to play games as well... i use my macbook for video editing, games, word processing, and general internet surfing... the macbook pro is solid, it has felt more solid than any other laptop i have held in the shops, and that makes a difference when bringing it around, you do not feel like bits and pieces are going to fall off, or there are weak spots... the battery life is amazing, i am still shocked how long it can go on for. if i lower the brightness and turn off the keyboard lights it lasts so long i can take it with me to university and use it all day without needing to bring my charger... that adds to the portability. if i play games on it it lasts 2 to 3 hours on normal brightness... which is shockingly good... i guess it comes down to people prioritising different needs... mine was portability, but with the possibility of gaming too... i think people are wrong when they say they are overpriced just because you can get more power for the same price with a laptop... people need to realise there is more to a computer than just power... and that those other things may actually make more of an impact on you than that little bit more of power you have... as for saying that my macbook will probably last longer than your hp, it is not irrelevant... macs are known for lasting years and years... you pay more for a laptop that lasts you longer...

Mac like the majority of Apple products are overpriced and under equipped.. Apple has basically made their entire line based upon the uninformed user.. Which is great for the uninformed user, but for pc gaming its lame.. There is also a ton of blow back of the ridiculous attacks on Windows by Apple for a multitude of things.. Such as claiming Windows has poor security when they do not.. Its just they are the dominating OS meaning all viruses, worms and the like are designed for a Windows platform and not a Mac one.

Sorry but I'm not an idiot. Macs offer nothing a PC can't do for far less. Its all fancy-looking cases but inside theres nothing spectacular. I won't let myself pay a premium for a different OS, less compatibility, and less power just so I can have a shiny white case.

I've used Macs and Macbooks plenty of times, especially since the art school I went to was addicted to them. I absolutely hated it. Couldn't wait to go home and do Photoshop homework on my PC since it was miles easier.

Yeah I love my macbook but only because I purely use it for work at school, photoshop and internet so in that sense it's perfect and has quick start-up times and runs all but smoothly,

Now when I wanna do everything like play games, make music, mix songs etc. all the good programs are on the PC and they are in abundance so if I don't like one program I'll look for another which fits my needs which on the mac I dont always have.

So for work the mac is great and easily useable, yet for a lot of other tasks and random things I can't do them on the MAC and needs windows which is a shame

Funny even though the media and Hollywood love to try to push Macs on us, with Macbooks for the computers in Every movie or show... (Sometimes its a Sony Viao, But mostly that MacBook, it is the most marketed computer in the world. (no other computer comes anywhere close to the marketing of the macbook)

While PC is the smarter choice, and is considerably more widely used.

Good portable gaming laptops don't really exist. If you want to play the latest games, you'll have to buy a big desktop replacer that you don't want to carry around and isn't as powerful as a desktop - yet costs more. If you want portability, you'll have to settle for a small screen and low end hardware - and still pay a fortune. The best choice in my opinion is to buy a DS. It's cheap, is extremely portable, has great battery and has a great library of games. The second best choice is to buy a netbook or some other small and inexpensive laptop, and play classic titles from the 90s. Unless of course, you have $2000 laying around for a top of the line Toshiba.

I have an older Intel Mac Mini I use for internet and MS Office plus I like having other OSes besides Windows. It's an okay computer although not really something to brag about.

Beats me why people here hate Macs (not just MacBooks) in general. You'd think it one ate their firstborn or something. Of course, there's also the snooty Mac zealots whose noses are stuck so high up. I guess the two groups cancel each other out. One zealot to another.

My friend got a gaming laptop for $900.. Asus.. 360m Nvidia card.. Powerful processor.. At least 4 gigs of ram if memory serves.. Also a 17.6" screen.. Now with this thing he can play games like Crysis amazingly well at high settings.. So no your incorrect there.. You can get a really good laptop for around $900 to $1400.. Not $2000..

why not just do as i have done and buy a macbook... it plays all the games i want it to, on medium settings, no problems at all... and still small enough to bring it with me everywhere...
