For what you get they're overpriced. Always.
They might have some nice GPU and CPU but they usually have the bare minimum PSU which is not something you wanna skimp on. Bad PSU can cripple the entire setup. Not to mention they fit inside tiny cases which I wouldn't think is very goot for heat dispersion
Occasionnaly overpriced? They're always realy overpriced.MonsieurX
ok i MAY have understated theyre pricing techniques lol...

And yeah thats true. But again your holding it to standards of custom built laptops. For those who money is not important and just want to buy an already manufactured computer, it seems to me like alienware is alright.

Eh, I'm from the camp that if you're gonna get into PC gaming you'd better do it the right way. Alienware definitely serve a market for gamers who want PC gaming with none of the hassle of putting it together, but it's the putting it together that helps you understand your PC. Assembling all those parts and researching it at first takes a long time but you will be much better off because if something breaks you will know how to troubleshoot it better.Â
I don't hate Alienware, but I do hate the people who buy Alienware and act like hipsters for it. Alienware feels like a middle ground between Console gaming and fully fledged PC gaming
Same as these people say. For the money you can build a much, much better rig. For people on these forums, building is very easy and it's best to get your' money's worth. A day on google with your' parts is greatly spent as you can learn to replace parts when needed (such as upgrades) and gives you more knowledge about your' system.demi0227_basic
Putting a PC together in modern times is a piece if piss anyway. It's literally Lego and with the millions if tutorials online it's hard to go wrong.
I honestly love the thrill of new parts and putting systems together :P don't know why anyone would deny themselves that feeling of hitting the power button first time and seeing it actually work and going "Fvck yeah I actually built that"
I think one of the reasons people often end up buying one is also because of the outside of the computers. I mean theyre designed beautifully, and if someone has no idea how pc specs work they usually end up buying one because it LOOKS so much more legitimate on the outside than most other pcs.
I don't know why Alienware is so popular for gaming computers. You can get a better deal with other companies, like Cyber Power PC, or I Buy Power.

Then they really don't understand PC gaming. What's inside to most PC gamers is even more beautiful than how it looks on the outside for the most part
Its all about marketing to the generally dumb masses. Same reason why Apple products are so popular.I don't know why Alienware is so popular for gaming computers. You can get a better deal with other companies, like Cyber Power PC, or I Buy Power.

I definetely agree personally. But I still like to have an...attractive looking pc lol. Id prefer not to have cracks and wires sticking out of the case of my desktop lol.

Ugh no. Don't get me started on apple. I bought a pc pre built out of laziness and just wanting something that works well; not perfect. I dont even mind alieanware. But apple. nuh-uh. I would build a pc out of broken parts before buying a mac.Â

Pretty much this as well. Many pc gamers hate alienware because you are literally *wasting* money on the product. That alienware sticker on the case costs a lot. Not only that though, but their competition blows them out of the water. My friend used ibuypower for his system, it's roughly 4 years old and still going strong. I built mine about the same time he bought his off ibuypower and at the time he spent like $20 more than I did for an equal system, they had some awesome deal goin on, but in general they are a good company.
I'm tempted to get a laptop from them sometime, but those refurbished one's on newegg are prolly a better deal.
I don't hate Alienware. I wouldn't buy one because they tend to be overpriced. But, if I got one say, for my birthday, I wouldn't mind.
I have an Alienware laptop right now...had it for 2 years and I got a deal on it...it's a good laptop, not the best but it gets the job done. Asus has great new laptops out now if you want a laptop, but for a desktop you can probably build your own for the same money that has better specs and parts.Â
cause it's stupid to pay so much money for a brand... with half the price you can build a system if not more powerful then at least same specs.
Besides... the whole concept of gaming on a PC is the geeky part... if you ain't building it yourself you don't deserve it... end of story!
I jst got one for gradutation. Its the M14x R2 laptop. Honestly, it works really nice, and i love it. I have also heard that the laptops are more reasonable then the desktops. Plus, looking up reviews they all are usually about 4/5, it cant be too bad:P Either way, i love it. I'll build my own desktoop when i have the time and will to to start taht task.
Mainly because they're overpriced. Not just a little overpriced or even moderately overprice, but ridiculously overpriced to the extent that you could probably build a much better PC for half the price of one of their rigs, or even find a decent gaming laptop for a much more reasonable price.
I'd say that's the only issue most people have with them, that they're basically designed for wealthy gamers who don't want to build their own PC's. I've never dealt with an annoying Alienware gamer though.
this1. We hate how people with Alienwares think that they are special.
2. We hate to see people waste money.
3. We know that Alienwares usually have crappy motherboards and PSUs.

People here described the situation very accurately. "Dumb people feeling special for purchasing an ultra overpriced underpowered brand that ships the cheapest parts inside a fancy case". Also i read that those cases, despite its outside fancyness, they have a very bad airflow and the size inside is very limited for upgrades or anything else they didn't put in.
I feel bad about them not knowing about their ignorance and everytime i find one of these i try to get them to reason.
Another story are the apple victims. I understand some people getting mac because some cool software like garageband are such, they make good use of it.
But the majority of these brainwashed customers purchase this more than overpriced piece of rotten apple because of the popular stylish image they have given to it. I know a lot of people, and i hate it, when one day they're like trying to show off their newly purchased mac, feeling like owning the most powerful computer in town, when they paid 2k bucks for an useless pc, specially WHEN THEY ONLY BROWSE THE WEB AND USE SKYPE.
They're essentially Apple - Ripping off clueless consumers and spending more time making their products look pretty than actually thinking about the parts that matter.
Why such strong hate for Alienware? Â For me its 2 reasons
1. Cheap build quality skimping on some parts
2. Paying more than you would building your own or having a friend do it for you.
So paying more for crappy parts makes sense to you then by all means go buy an alienware

i bought a alienware aurora before i went to bootcamp two years later i finally got to use it, then a year later i replaced literally every piece of hardware in it to find out that the main power button switch, top USB ports, and card reader had its only alienware special port connector. now with a asus rampage IV motherboard i cant connect those and i am with useless pieces of hardware until i make it back to america to purchase a new case

Yea that was very aggravating. My buddy didn't have an alienware, but a higher priced Dell "gaming" computer (waste of money) and when I finally built him his own rig because the damn thing was broke beyond fixing and Dell never honored their warranty feature.../rabble, anyways. I thought at the time the case would be a standard atx form factor so I could use it and whatnot. Oh boy was I wrong.
Everything in a Dell/Alienware, from the case, to the mobo, to PSU connectors, to everything is 100% proprietary. You can't do jack squat with the thing. If it messes up and they won't fix it, you bought yourself the nicest door stopper money can buy.
Guess how many forum posters it takes to repeat the same answer?JKnaperek
Alot obviously people still dont get it

There's nothing actually "wrong" with buying an Alienware, you just have to realize that you are spending extra money, just like when you a Ferrari, it still gets you from Point A to Point B like a normal car would, just with the extra price. What worries me is that they are now supposedly using cheaper parts, like mainboards and PSUs. If this is true then the extra price is not warranted. Please Log In to post.
