I never found Crysis graphics to be very impressive (and please don't post screenshots, we already know what the game looks like). The NPCs looked terrible, and even certain things, like boulders for instance, looked very mediocre. I agree that the trees looked good, but other than that, I thought the game's graphics were nothing special.

Opinions?

The facial models of the Americans were fantastic. The trees and all foilage was awesome. The draw distance was great. The water was pretty high up there compared to other games. The sun rays cast on the ground and the shadows were also very well done.

Crysis running in 64bit, DX10 at 1680x1050, looks phenomenal.

I'm sorry you feel otherwise.

This is obviously a troll thread... "The NPCs looked terrible..." ... Um the CryEngine 2 had/still has the best in-game model of a human on any game... and the texture res of a person's face in Crysis game is on the same level as the texture res for entire characters of other other games...

Sure they do, if they waited 3 or 4 years to release the game. Game engines and how far they can go is dependent on the hardware that is available. It's getting much better, just wait for Crysis 2, and then hopefully Crysis 3 as technology improves, and they work even more on the engine to make it even easier to run.

Did you see some of those screens released a while back of from the Scene From a Movie contest that Crytek had... a couple of random guys did the Blade Runner entry... if a bunch of random people can do those things with the CryEngine2... imagine what Crytek, the people who actually made it can do...?

Nope... I never played the original... I wasn't a very big "gamer" until 2005... I played very few games prior to that...

I see what your saying, you hear about all this talk about how it has the best graphics ever and expect to see something that will blow your mind away... of course considering your computer can handle it. It will only go as far as your computer will let it, that's the catch so if your running a bare minimum rig for it, then yeah, it's not going to be all that appealing.

I personally don't have it maxed out (can't, I run it off a laptop) but every time I turn it on and start playing, it still is rather eye-pleasing. 8)

I'm still amazed how some people find it boring.... the gameplay to me was great, specially the addition of the nanosuit, it made each level approachable in different ways.

It was a very 'make your own adventure' game - the first, at least. Most of the fun was in how you'd approach the fights with the Korean soldiers and seeing what would unfold. I'm guessing some people just don't enjoy that kind of game (probably wouldn't like Elder Scrolls in general in the same sort of way).

Crysis is the best looking game to date no question about it. With that said some people over exaggerate it's graphical prowess though, it doesn't look near photo realistic (as some have said) and a select few games can give Crysis a run for it's money in certain aspects.

In this lad's defence the generic nature of the setting probably doesn't help but Crysis is a visual splendor and one that is done on such a grand scale. The draw distance in particular is just amazing.

The graphics in Crysis are the best I have ever seen. Not just by a little bit, but by a landslide.

I really dont see where you guys are coming from talking about "Crysis graphics are overrated" or "Why are Crysis graphics so hyped".

Still the best looking game by a long shot imo.

One reason why I think the Crysis graphics were so hyped was because Crytek lied about them. Look at the old preview movies in HD, and look at the game now. I was told that the new Crysis was technically superior to the old Crysis, but I don't give a damn about no technicalities if the new Crysis looks inferior to the old Crysis.

Yeah, I doubt the Cryengine 2 or even 3 will ever be able to render scenes that well in real-time while maintaining a stable framerate.

Crysis *technically* is the best graphics to date...but i still find other games nicer on the eyes, plus alot of the textures were crap(compared to the rest of the games textures) there is no denying that unless you are blind, play with and without rygels texture pack and you will see what i mean. All in all though you can hardly say the graphics are not good, the artistic direction is another story....

The textures in Crysis were simply god-awful, and I wrote a post about it after having bought the Maximum Edition last month - my first experience with Crysis.

Man, was I ever surprised. I was honestly shocked that nobody had mentioned how ugly the textures were. The water - yeah, simply amazing. The trees - okay, maybe they were amazing two years ago, they didn't exactly bowl me over when I saw them for the first time last month though. Crysis is starting to look dated, no question about it. That's what the OP is talking about. I saw it too. I mean, if you're late to the party then you're seeing Crysis through a different lens. Myself, I prefer a sharp looking game to a game that, for whatever reasons, is fuzzy. And Crysis is definitely not sharp.

(And please don't tell me that my computer must suck, because it doesn't.)

But what's this high-res texture pack thing that I keep on hearing about? (And by the way, if Crysis wasn't suffering from a texture problem, then why did somebody feel the need to create one such mod to address the issue? Well, obviously because Crysis suffers from a texture problem. I mean, duh.)

Anybody got a link? Whenever I install these mods I always seem to run into problems - so how easy is the installation?

Here you go, but imo the textures are far worse than the original ones.

They were hyped because at that point in time, nothing like it had ever been done before, and it still looks awesome because nothing like that has been done since.
