Why are console gamers so brainwashed into buying a PS3, Wii, 360 when they could be having a better experience on the PC? If consoles are computers as well then why don't people convert to PC gaming? When there are such great games on the PC such as Wow, Crysis/warhead, Far Cry 2, Gears of War, FEAR, FEAR 2, Stalker, Bioshock, Quake 4, Doom 3, Call of Duty 4 & 5, Fallout 3, Deadspace and the list goes on...Why still won't people convert to PC gaming?

Its simple actually. I was a PC gamer only for about 3 years. Over the last year and a half the good games coming out for it are beginning to thin alot. Where its stands today, the only game I play on my PC is Call of duty WAW, and will play modern warfare 2 when it arrives. FPS games are best for PC. Everything else, 360 will always win. Which is why i play it the most now.

Well besides the fact that more than half those games are on consoles too... And I'm only buying a high end PC because I'm not paying for most of it (thanks mum and dad).

i strongly disagree with that, while you might not play them, rpgs, strategy/rts, as well as any game that provides mod support will be better on pc.

what do you mean? you're not talking about PC gaming, you're talking about PC and Console, and you say PC is better...then someone comes in saying Console is better, and then another someone comes in saying PC is better, and so on...this is a cIassic System Wars thread.

ADD:

oh, btw, considering that there are many console trespiissers and many people are multiplaform gamers...this thread can go the SW route or turn into a PC gaming bashing thread. go job!

There are alot of reasons. This is from a PC Gamer:

1. Comfort: you get to sit on a couch in front of a big tv, whats not to love?

2. Price: Consoles cost about 300 bucks. while the games are slightly more expensive, and if you want a good mid-high end system your gonna shell out 700 bucks. at a new game price that would take about 40 games to make the price even.

3. Splitscreen: there are very few games that are splitscreen for pc, and this is where console gaming thrives, you can get a group of friends and play each other when your bored, instead of switching off.

4. Girls: When you bring a girl home they (i should say most) dont want to see some massive 3 foot tall computer with its led's flashing and fans buzzing, an xbox or a playstation or a wii underneath the tv isnt too bad.

5. Community: While i dont really care about the community in games that much (minus mmo's) i do love xbox live. it connects gamers and shows their achievements accross ALL games. steam only does steam games, and i personally hate buying from steam, i like my boxes.

6. Games Selection: PC has a huge back catalog of games, but consoles get more AAA titles at the moment. Gears of war 2, halo 3, ect that the pc will never get. sure, there are still pc exclusives, but there are more console exclusives.

PC's have alot of pros, but thats not what im trying to defend right now.

People just want their games to work. They want to buy a system and have it work right out of the box with little to no set up. This is something that the PC currently dosen't offer. You could go to Dell and have them build you a high end computer but everything they offer is over priced and under powered. If you want a gamimg computer your only "real" option is to build it yourself or have someone you know build it for you, which isn't an option for everyone. PC games also tend to be proned to glitches and bugs. When FC2 cameout on STEAM the online multiplay didnt work. It was up to the users to fix this issue. I've had random crashes in left4dead that have left me with no other option other than reinstall the game. Most people would have no idea what to do if their games stopped work randomly, which is something that happens all the time in the PC gaming work. The majority of people don't want to have to open their computer up and upgrade some part every year or two. They could get a GTX295 that would last them 4 year, but why would you? The price to value ratio heavely favors getting something like a HD4850 which would need replacing every other year. Xbox360 / PS3 users don't know that, and they dont want to know.

The reason I game almost exclusively on my PC is that I LOVE fixing my computer, making it faster, installing applications to increase speed and productivity. I love looking at all of the new video cards, memory, CPUs that come out. Most people don't want to involve themselves with that, and that's why they stick to concels.

I'm also a girl, and I could care less about how tall your gaming box is. But I know the only reason I play on a console most of the time is because of how much money you have to dish into a computer to play new games. For a 360 (in my case) it's a one time payment that's much smaller than the amount you'd spend on a PC to get it to the same caliber, and I know it'll always be able to play new games released on it. It's a lot easier and cheaper. I still play on my old computer though, but that's pretty much reserved for WoW and TS3. Pretty much only the PC exclusives I really want to play.

Well for starters, a lot of AAA games are console only. Until you can play games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and tons of others I'm not even going to bother listing, that is reason enough to own a console. PC gaming also has a higher technical curve whereas a console you just stick the disc in and play. But mostly it boils down to the types of games a person enjoys. If they like JRPG's and other games you can get on a console that's what they are going to buy. Obviously if someone likes MMO's, CRPG's, or RTS, they are going to play games on the PC. As for me, I like both. I don't see why there is a reason why you have to choose only console or PC. They both have their place.

1) Better experience? Not always mostly its more demanding for better graphics without making the console version look very inferior, as it would be if the developers used the total pc capabilities 2)when console gamers hear stuff like bugs and bad optimazation and perfomance or constant upgrades and diffirent issues, they react like "meh i play in a console, no problems and extra confort" 3) the games you posted are consolized and casualized, they belong to consoles the real pc gamers dont play most of them, but i do thats why i am here, because i prefer playing them as long as they work properly that is... eg i dont play gta iv no pc, i play on ps3, but ill upgrade my pc to see the graphics diffirences. 4) pc exclusives are mainly rts, mmos and other genres that dont really make the console gamers go crazy. Another thing will be that all pc exclusives, stalker clear sky, arma 2, cryostasis are demanding and baldy optimized games with lots of bugs, constant patching and bad production values, Console ports have an excuse, now those? Well cheap developers maybe, but also crysis did have bad optimazation and many bugs for it time. Also those games got very complexy gameplay with too many buttons that frustrate the console gamers too much. For those reasons console gamers prefer the consoles, Buy a console, buy a game that will work 95% perfcectly, no extra upgrades or problems or confusive gameplay or bad perfomance and all those things. Console gaming is simpler it has more hype and in the end even game developers agree.

I prefer to play on the PC as I find it to be more Immersive when playing games. I do own a PS3 but thats just for the exclusive games that dont come out on the PC. I am thinking about getting a Wii cos they look like a lot of fun but the PC will always be my first love.

The problem with PC gaming now is that the experience you get on a PC is almost the same as a console.
Take Wolfenstein for example. There is absolutely no difference between the PC and consoles versions (I am told). So what's the point in having a high end PC? Of course, there is always Crysis, but for someone who doesn't care about Crysis, what is the point? You are now starting to get RTS on consoles. Microsoft (the company that is supposed to support PC gaming) won't even released Gears of War 2 on PC, even after so many days of its release on console.
Bottomline is, there is no real incentive to be a PC gamer. Its sometime we do because we love it.

Some people would justify on getting a console rather then a gaming PC for a two reasons. 1. Cost. Alot of people who dont have the knowledge of building their own PC would have to spend $1500 or more for a system that is capable of playing games at a resolution and graphic quality they want. Also a PC becomes outdated within a few years causing the person to spend more. 2. Convenience. A console is easier for some people. It takes little skill or knowledge on a console other then how to hook it up to the tv and push the power button. A PC would require someone to be aware of their system specs and the games system requirements. There are plenty of people who come on these forums asking if my PC could run X game.

Yeah gta iv is the obvious exeption. Ideally I got the PS3 for Metal Gear 4 and the upcoming Fumita Ueda game. Though it has to be said that Little Big Planet is a blast its a pity you cant add your own music on that game.

Yeah, whats good about pc is that you can do much more, like in fallout 3... so many mods.

Also, ridiculous DRM on PC games is another factor. Although companies are slowly getting the hint that going overboard on DRM kills sales.

I disagree. When I got the PS3 i played BIOSHOCK for the first time on it and also FARCRY 2 . after the PS3 novelty wore of I returned to my PC and bought both games for the PC. The experience of playing these 2 games on the PC as a pose to the PS3 was miles and miles better. Better graphics quicker loading times ability to use mods and save whenever I want. Also when your sat infront of a monitor instead of sat infront of the TV is a lot more immersive.

Its sometime we do because we love it. chandu83
In regards to Wolfenstein, I would much rather play with a mouse and keyboard. The only FPS I ever play on consoles are exclusives like Halo 3 that I can't get anywhere else. I can't stand playing FPS with a controller. Same for RTS. RTS demands a bunch of keys at your disposal to play really well. I can only shudder to think what a console port of Starcraft 2 would play like.

Also, ridiculous DRM on PC games is another factor. Although companies are slowly getting the hint that going overboard on DRM kills sales.zomglolcats
Yup that too, its stupid uneffective and dumb

It is as simple as this... consoles are cheaper, Easier to move around and are more suitable when playing with groups of friends. Computers are great for people who are very into gaming, but for the amount of 'casual gamers' out there, not ideal.

You truly won't like PC Gaming unless you try it out for yourself.

How about you read what he wrote? He said that he IS a PC gamer. You asked for reasons why people like consoles and he gave them to you. People like you are the reason for PC gamers having a snobby elite image. Just learn to accept that different people have different preferences and not everything you like is the best and only way to live. You're like the church. "Believe what we do or we will burn you, witch!"

UltimateGamer95

It has nothing to do with being brainwashed (or for that matter stupid, kids or lazy). Some people prefer to play on consoles. It's a diffrent enviroment, diffrent machine, diffrent functionality. To insinuate that 'they' are somehow brainwashed for not liking the same platform you do is kinda stupid.

With that said, a couple of things in the post stood out to me as incorrect:

- The PC does not have no or fewer new high end titles when compared to the consoles. Almost all AAA titles are released on the three high end platforms (PC,X360 and PS3). While each platform has it's own set of exclusives, saying that the PC is missing out is incorrect unless your looking at a very limited set of genres (mainly Jrpgs). No, it's true we didnt get Halo 3, Gears of War 2 or Metal Gear Solid. but along the same lines the Xbox or PS didnt get Crysis, the Sims 3, STALKER / STALKER Clear Sky. The list of each of the three platforms could go on, but the PC has more exlusives being released than any other platform.

- DRM, it's true that a couple of games have had some really restrictive DRM, but it has largely become a thing of the past (a few instances still exists). Yeah it's a annoying but consider that 99% of PC games have the same or often less DRM than you do on an XBOX360 or a PS3.. you need the disk undamaged and in the drive to play. Yes.. The consoles have DRM as well.

I just signed up here due to this thread. Most people on this forum are most likely teenagers, but I'm sure there's a few older folks. Anyways, I used to be a huge PC gamer for many many many years. I played Quake 1, Quake 2 (and all the mods - Chaos, Action, PBall, Jailbreak), Quake 3, UT, Star Wars JK:DF2, Blood 2, Delta Force 1 and 2 - all the classics. I will simply say this - PC gaming, today, is a joke. It is a continued joke. It absolutely sucks compared to what it used to be. In fact, I bet there's a few people on here who've never heard of these games, and probably weren't even alive when some came out. Back in the day, there was Zone.com, HEAT.net, MPlayer, TEN - all the good gaming network sites that you could play these games on. Now you have Steam, and that's pretty much it. There's some others, like GSA, but Steam seems to dominate. And I don't like Steam either. Everything today is too simplified for kids, or younger gamers. Gaming today is dominated by Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War, and all these games flatout suck. Quake 1 or 2 would, and still do, destroy these games. Now, to Joe Schmoe who's never played either game, would look at it and say they suck because of graphics, or whatever. I remember back when Q2 came out in 97 I would stay up till 5 in the morning on full servers playing DM on Edge. I would say todays youth has killed PC gaming, and is ruining console games. When I played PC games back in the late 90's I was young, but we were a different crowd than todays "kids". We did ladders and tournaments on HEAT.net, we played games seriously. I remember I had a 56k modem and would search for Q2 servers on gamespy and it would take like 10 minutes to load up all the servers. I remember if you ran Q2 at 640x480 and got like 30 FPS you had a beastly PC. Nowadays, you can't join any game without a kid screaming, crying, calling people noobs, making mom jokes, and being stupid. Anyways, yeah - PC gaming sucks today. And it's not going to get any better. It's getting worse, and it IS dying, I can vouch for that. There's no good games out IMO, and the good ones that are out are dead or almost there. And yes, I've played COD, Halo, GoW. And yes, I own a 360 and a PC.

Which is why i play it the most now.lordlunch2

You forgot about:

Strategy games
RPGs
Simulations, both arcade and hardcore
Adventure games

Simply put, PC has the better library of games...we dont get the most hyped titles anymore (or we do, and theyre just multiplatform), but the quality if just better on PC.

If anything, action is what you shouldnt play on PC because it translates so well to console.

Using a mouse and keyboard is too complicated for some of them.

If I were to guess... I'd guess you never owned a PS2. Nor ever got into the Japanese style of game play. As for the Xbox, it's a matter of convenience.
