Why wont Sims 3 work on my 64-bit computer?

Please help, I have recently got an older computer from a friend. It has windows XP (SP2) and x64 operating system. Never had one of these before, do i need a patch etc...... Cheers, :)

64-bit XP is known for its compatibility problems... Not really sure how bad it is or if its gotten better though. What does it do when you try to run / install it?

You should check the system requirements to see what you would need to run The Sims 3.

System is not compatible, reinstall a system or reinstall the game.
